Lori - I would take that house upstate in a heartbeat. A huge yard...happy memories...actual land...oh what happy kids you will have!!![]()
I know I was a very happy kid.
Nothing like having every kid in the neighborhood over to go sleigh riding...then inside for hot cocoa..
Wonderful memories!

People manage to live Great lives outside of the New York area- I love NY but it isn't the only place in the whole world to live
Man, when I lived on Long Island I thought I'd be drawn and quartered for daring to have such opinions.
I probably will be - I love it here- believe me I do- I have lived here my whole life expect for college in Coloardo- which I hated by the way- but the more I see other places on TV with all these home shows
and how hard my husband has to work - and myself to keep up with this rat race- that I am just as guilty of being a part of - I start to realize that we could have a better quailty of life outside NY- and that saddens me- but it's the truth
I will miss NY when I leave- but the good news is I will be able to come back - stay at a great hotel, shop and see a show b/c we will have more disposable income

I love NY...and unfortunately we won't leave it.
Our reasoning...family. They're all here.
Staying on Long Island...that's another story....![]()
I understand that also- my Mom is gone, My Dad has moved on with a new women and they 'winter' in FLA, along with my Grandma and my Brother lives there year round
so it's just me and my sister up here now :(

OMG I don't even know what that would be like. That sounds beautiful!
And I can just imagine the foliage in the fall.

See that's a different story. If my entire family lived here and so did DH's we wouldn't considering moving out of state. We would leave NYC and look into upstate or Orange county...and NJ, PA and CT would be options too. But we would stay close by since that's where the family was. But since they're not and we think DH's is moving to Florida (they're currently down there 'on vacation') we have every reason to leave. I understand why people stay here...I do and it makes total sense. But it's pretty impossible to buy here. I mean, look at Jennifer's house in PA. How much would that be here? With an acre lot?

Trust me... NJ is not all that much more better than LI. Maybe extreme western parts of Jersey. But mainstream Jersey is just as expensive. Our taxes are twice as much as Long Island taxes.

Oh I believe you. DH's aunt just bought a house in Bergen Co. It was over $400K and IMO not much to look at. I would have looked at the PA/NJ border where prices are in the $200-300K range. But far, far away.

Oh...I've got AMAZING pics!!! I never spent a moment in the house during fall time! I lived near Olana - the historical site and would hike for hours everyday! (I think that's why I was so skinny then!) Anyway...my FAVORITE memory was when I convinced my Mom to go with me. She was feeling well enough to go. It was 10/2000...the foliage was at it's peak! She was able to walk the trails and we took some great pictures. She stops and says to me...this is something I will remember forever. A month later my Mom got very sick and she passed away 4 mths later. I keep a picture of her on my desk at work from that day..the foliage is amazing...so is she.
Wow...I went off topic there...sorry all!

I remember that day so vividly...I think that day was a total gift from God. He knew what was to happen and wanted us both to have a special moment together.
