That is some house. Stunning. See what happens when you move out of state. But remember where homes are less so are pay scales.
This is not true. Unless you're working in Manhattan, you'll probably end up making the same or more elsewhere. LI pays comparably to other states. Also, the cost of living elsewhere is much lower. I did so much research for my move because I thought the same thing...but no...there's really no reason to stay here.![]()
I agree. Even if the salaries are slightly lower, the houses are ALOT less - so it doesn't end up evening out (I had this conversation with FFIL after I told them I wanted to move to NC - and they had a fit that I might take their baby away). House prices are disproportionately high on LI and in NYC - as are taxes!

So very true! Even Upstate NY...now I'm not talking way up I'm talking Hudson Valley area...pay is comparable to what is made down here and homes are a FRACTION of what they are down here.
that's not true for teachers!
teachers on Long Island make a lot more than teachers in other parts of New York!

this post is nauseating.I can't believe that house in Holbrook is the same price as that texas house. Its so upsetting. What is so wonderful here that houses cost so much $$?

Again, I have to say not true. My aunt just started as a first year teacher in Georgia. She does not have her Master's but has some Master's credits. Her starting pay? $42,000 a year. Way more than a NYC teacher with her Master's. So again, it all depends. People think you make so much more here...but in reality it's the same or more elsewhere and the houses and cost of living are much better/lower. Why stay?

And this is W T F it gets you in Long Island.![]()

I have no problem moving whatsoever, soon as we have the downpayment.
See, the good thing is that since houses are so affordable elsewhere you could probably get a 100% financed loan or a 97% loan (with a 3% downpayment that will prob be less than $5K) with no problems. Both my siblings bought their houses with zero down...great mortgages...FHA first time homeowners. In NY that would be impossible.
You're right!!!![]()

I wanna get the hell out of NY so badly. I'm starting to hate it here. I don't want to really leave my mom though.

Is there any way to take her with you? Maybe you need to be the 'trairblazer' (that's what DH and I call ourselves!
) and make the move. She'll probably follow. But I know it's a super hard decision. One we struggle with daily. So I wish you luck!!

Re: UGH! Look at this house!
What I make here for what I do, I can't get out of state unless it's CA but we all know how much the homes are there.I guess different industries have different salary guidelines just like everywhere else.
I know this, I've looked at some other states. That's just for me.

Re: UGH! Look at this house!
All I can say is WOW! I love that house in Texas! It sickens me to think that I could live in a house like that if we moved. I have tried to convice DH to move but he won't.

Re: UGH! Look at this house!
I feel very fortunate that DH and I can afford to live where we do in the house that have, and I don't ever take it for granted. I feel bad for newly married couples that cannot afford to stay here, but understand the need to (and not want) move out of state to actually be able to LIVE their lives without having to LIVE for their house payments.DH and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE NYC and all it has to offer, there is usually not a weekend where we are not there. I couldn't imagine having to move, I seriously have so much respect for those who make that difficult decision to move away.

Me and DH. Except we're homebodies so we could live anywhere. Although I thank God that we have family in GA otherwise it would be impossible.

I have no clue where I want to live, but DH refuses to leave LI.
I like it here too, but for the houses we want in the area we want...soooo not worth it. I told him we'll be renting forever!

that's why i said teachers on Long Island.
I make a lot more than that...granted I have my Masters....but my district is not even one of the huigher paying ones on the island.
And to answer the why stay ?- I don't like the sun - so I could never live in Texas

I happen to really like the outside...the roof is on of my faves, it means lots of vaulted ceilings!
Thank you for posting htough because I went back and saw the inside pictures...Dina, these are better than the outside! Why are you here still?
And OMG it has a lap pool?!
