Re: 'Official Jericho Terrace Thread'!

We went there last week to make a payment and our BM wasn't there, but someone else was, and my God this guy just put us off!! He was very full of himself and the place. I spoke to my BM yesterday and he said he was surprised the guy acted the way he did. I told him 'I only want to deal with you, so remind me not to come on your days off!!'

That was the first time we have been there and had someone speak to us that completely made us roll our eyes in disgust. But it's just one person, so I'm not letting it get to me. I never got his name, but if you want a description FM me.

Anyhow, I asked a few questions, and here's some info.
Cake can be made in buttercream or whipped cream. They charge a lot extra for fondant cakes. Think $600 - $800!!!

They allow candles however you want to use them EXCEPT for votive candle placecards. You can use them, they just can't be lit because of a possible fire hazard.

No votives are included for the tables at the reception. Some halls include 2, but JT doesn't include any.

They said they mail out packages about 10-12 weeks before to you about setting up your final appointments to go over menu and such. So we should be getting ours any day now.

There were a few other questions I asked, but can't remember any right now.

No votive place cards!?!? I was so looking forward to doing them. So many people in so many different halls are allowed to do them....I'm so upset now! I knew I would find an awesome DIY project and something would happen Is anyone do anything creative with their place cards then?

I'm beginning to think they just have a few bad seeds over there (I posted a couple of days ago about the rude receptionist). It stinks because most of the people (including my BM Robert) are soooo nice.

I'm sad about the votive placecards. I think those are so beautfiul, and it was a DIY project I could actually handle (Saying I'm clumsy is the understatement of the century ).

I always thought I wanted fondant icing for my cake, but I just had it at a wedding and it was so gross! It stuck to the roof of your mouth like wax...blech. I am definitely sticking with the buttercream because a) there's no way I'm paying another $600-$800 for my cake and b) it's kind of yucky anyway.

Thanks so much for posting all that info...Did you get any information on chair covers? I am really curious about prices...

Yes, you can use votives, just not for placecards. I had votives all over. Pictures in my review.

No charge...I brought in a picture and they duplicated it perfectly and the other bride used one of their great designs.

Re: 'Official Jericho Terrace Thread'!

Thank you ladies so much for this thread. I read nearly every single post on this before booking Jericho Terrace just minutes ago. In fact, I had this forum up while we booked it on the phone haha.

Our ceremony will be in the skylight room, cocktails in the garden room and reception in the dome room. This is for a day wedding the first Sat. of Oct.

Below are more details about our experience with JT so far :

We went to visit last Sat. (before the blizzard) and got there around 2pm. In the half hour or so we were there, we saw 5 other couples viewing the hall. A wedding was going on during this and I felt bad that we were all walking around in jeans while their wedding was going on.

We met with Tino who gave us a tour and let us really soak in each room. We loved being able to see the kitchen- that was cute. While Tino wasn’t as attentive as other BMs we’ve met at other LI halls, he was friendly and upbeat and spoke very highly about JT without being too used car salesman-esque. I asked Tino about second entrees ( most of the other places we went to offer second entrees at no cost)- he shook his head and said NO, we don’t do second entrees. He added that there will be enough food so no one will need a second entrée. We were a teensy bit miffed about his response. I asked if he could give us a price listing of add-ons and he replied by asking me what add-ons I wanted. This annoyed me another teensy bit.

I spoke with Chad yesterday (I asked for Mike since this board raved about him but he is out Mondays and Tuesdays). Chad was great, a little stern (I asked about the 72hr refund policy and he said “Listen, don’t book it thinking that you might cancel. Be sure because we don’t want to hold the date for you if you plan on canceling) but otherwise willing to work with us (I asked about chair covers and he said “Don’t worry, we’ll work those in).

We conference called in today and spoke with GM Robert (Chad is out Tuesdays and Wednesdays) who is very friendly and a hilarious, easy going person. I flat out told him I am a very anal person and he laughed and said he prefers anal brides because they think of everything. So with Robert we booked the date and made an appointment to go in this Sat to work out more of the details of our contract.

I want to go in Sat. ready to bargain- what frills have yall been able to get BMs to throw in?
Chair covers, champagne at each table, sushi etc?

Thanks!

Re: 'Official Jericho Terrace Thread'!

I had absolutely positively NOTHING thrown in for free. If anything, we took items off the menu to bring down the price. I'm a little upset about that, because I keep hearing about people having things thrown in and we got nothing.

I'm hoping maybe something will be made up for on my wedding day, but I seriously doubt it.

Welcome sandelion! Just wanted to mention that not only did I have second entrees, but the waiters came out with full entree plates after dinner to every table. The service was amazing. This was not a problem and was in my contract, so Tino might not have been the most honest or knowledgeable. Also, once you have a BM, stick with him and make sure anything promised is in writing and in your contract.

As for 'frills' our BM was wonderful and worked with our budget and wants. But most importantly, everything promised was promptly added to the contract. A promise is just that unless it's in writing...then it's a guarantee.

Happy planning!

BKtoLI: who is your BM? I'm sorry they didn't work any extras into your deal =(

I asked Tino if he could bring the price down if we forgo the ice sculpture and the crudites and he said no. What things did they let you take off?
