Wow if I wasn't neurotic about planning that would be a great option

Chad did the same thing to me when my fiance and I went in there. He told me if I didnt book right away my date would be gone. Then when I went with another hall, he called to see if I was still interested. When I told him I booked Terrace on the Park, he quickly dismissed me and basically told me "good luck" and hung up. I am so glad I chose elsewhere, even though JT is beautiful

I too dealth with Chad first and didn't feel "safe"with him!!!

I voiced my concerns on the board and was told to speak to Mike Closs!!!

I spoke to him and he put my mind at ease.... he didn't may me feel like a number.... like CHAD did.

I am glad that I was able to change my BM!!!!

How did you go about changing your BM? I have some concerns and I was going to make an appointment to speak to Chad about them. Do you think I should try talking to Chad first?

You can try to talk to Chad, but as far as him negotiating prices, he wont budge. Otherwise if you want to switch call JT and ask for another BM other than him and explain your situation

Re: Hey Ladies...Let's post reception halls and there prices for 07 as we go on our search?

the other halls on your list were taxing grat??? they aren't supposed to...techincally that's illegal if i understand correctly. the tax and grat are figured separately. the grat is supposed to be based on the untaxed price per person...and then the tax is also figured the same way and then the two amounts are added to the base price per person..like at watermill we are paying $57 a head plus $ 4.99 tax (57 x 8.75%) plus $ 10.26 (57 x 18%) for grat and it comes to exactly $72.25 which is what we're paying.

what halls tax the grat?!

the other halls call it a SERVICE CHARGE, which is perfectly OK to tax. Pathetic, huh?

My dad who's in the restaurant business thinks it's illegal also. But you never know with county laws within state laws, etc.

I had Chad originally and when I got home I felt uneasy about him. Luckily for us when we went back Mike showed us around and I told him that I wanted to deal with him instead. He got me a new contract and signed his name to it. It was simple. Then his boss was like was there a problem with Chad and I said yup I don't like him because he comes across a used car salesman. It was very easy.

I read on another post about the gratuity getting taxed so I decided to call my hall and yup they do this too which *****. But what can you do? It's only like $1 more per person if I figured correctly. I may bring it up to my BM when I make my next payment eascially if they call it garuity and not a service charge.

Yup! Its not something they advertise, but I asked...a LOT of the halls I visited (14 of em!) do tax the 18% as well.

I have a 4 page list of questions to ask all the halls I looked at - trust me, it included "do you tax the 18%?"!

Do you have a list for any of the other vendors? Photo/Video, limo? If you do would you mind FM me with it. There are so many questions I feel I forget. I go in there with a list and always manage to leave something off. TIA

not yet! I won't be looking to book those things until May or so of next year.

There may be some lists on here though...I'd try the search feature!

Re: Hey Ladies...Let's post reception halls and there prices for 07 as we go on our search?

I think how they get around it is that they do not call it a "tip" but rather a "service charge"

In addition, I think you have to pay cash to avoid the tax issue all together. Recently, I got screwed and had to pay ttax on my engagement party. even though I was willing to pay cash, I was told since I paid my deposit with a check that I could not. UGH

So keep that in mind too. so annoying all these factors to consider when booking.

those SOB's!! i remember when we were doing our formula that i accidentally included the tax on the grat..and my BM was like "no..no we don't tax the gratuity charge..we can't!"

guess i got lucky.

even when it's called a SERVICE CHARGE?

if that's really the case, then about 1/2 the halls on LI are breaking the law right now!
