RP '07: VENT: If you get info from a board, get it right!

Okay, so a new bride posted a Q on the '07 boards, about how to negotiate with a hall. I responded to this by stating halls love cash, and how you can sometimes get extras thrown in, etc. and I also commented about how paying all in cash can help sometimes with things like tax. (Yes I know it's illegal NOT to charge tax, as some brides stated, but let's be realistic...some smaller halls will magically reduce some of the tax when you pay cash...it DOES happen ocasionally.)

Well anyway--my problem is this: I don't know who did it, whether it was the original poster of this thread, or someone who read it--visited my hall, and proceeded to tell the BM there that I had stated that I got a break on tax there because I paid cash, and then proceeded to use my first name and wedding date from my profile--as if they know me personally or something--saying that they saw me post on a website that i got the tax comped or something!! If you read the post (i bumped it over there), i NEVER EVER said that MY HALL did this...i said in GENERAL it can happen.

On Saturday night, I get a phone call from my BM asking me if I was going around telling people this, and if I did it was not good information to be spreading. Of course I had to explain the situation...but it really ticked me off that someone used my info to try and get a deal like that.

So whoever did this--please get your facts straight before you start using other people's comments and information!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say I am very careful about what I say here, and what info I relate from here - I would never do somehting like that!!!

I sorry that happened to you, I gave someone advise about their marital problem (along with 10 other people) and I recieved an agry FM from the husband (from the wife's account) telling me off for giving her bad advice...


people are psychotic...Dont be too upset, just be careful i guess...

OMG! What kind of a nut would not only do this but use your name as if they know you? That's terrible, take the advice others gave and don't give out any information related to prices, deals, etc. You have to be careful, it's the internet, you never know who you're talking to.

I was the one that originally pointed out that not charging tax is illegal, but I totally understand that you were NOT saying that you got that deal!

My guess is that someone else who was booked at the Watermill didn't get such a sweet deal, and wanted it. I'm so sorry that happened to you - HOW HUMILIATING

Where's the smack upside the head icon for this person?!?!?!?! How irresponsible and rude for them to do that to you. If there was a way to find them out they should be booted!!!!!

this is why you'll notice a lot of brides don't post info in their profiles, such as names or where they are getting married or who they are using as vendors. people get all weird in cyber world.

So sorry that happened, I'd be so annoyed...that's why I don't throw out dollar figures on the boards......you never know...

It happens more than you think. My advice to all:

Do NOT post what you spend on ANYTHING.
Do NOT tell people what you pay per head.
Do NOT post your last name.
(the post on 06 about new last names makes me nuts - sorry but it cannot be safe on SO many levels)
Do NOT post where you or your FH works.

I am sure many people may think I am paranoid now but better safe than sorry.

what makes me mad--i just answered a Q..and that was it! i didn't throw out any numbers or anything, or tell them what i'm paying or such. they just got my hall, date, and first name from the basic stuff i have on my profile!!!! i mean W T F ? ? it's so sad that we have to be all guarded and stuff on here, when we're all just supposed to be brides helping other brides!!

So sorry this happened to you That is the reason that a lot of brides/grooms DO NOT post their info in their profile.

Some brides have had similar incidents like this happen with others using their posted price quotes to try to get the same deal at halls or with other vendors. Some people have even had info on this site used to try to CANCEL their vendors (including halls) and even registries

OMG!!! What a fool! I am so sorry you went through that. Uhhh...I am so pissed right now so I can't imagine how you feel since it happened to you.
