How did you pick your wedding date?

I've posted this before, but it's just too funny not to repeat.

DH and I actually did this to figure out when to get married. Please post how you decided as well.

January--OUT...there's New Year's and the Super Bowl

February--OUT...too cheesy with Valentine's Day

March--OUT...the month of my birthday...even though the day we met was in March, I'm no fool...I'd be getting one gift for both..Also, March Madness.

April--OUT...Easter is usually here [you shouldn't compete with Jesus] and a relative I don't like got married in April.

May--OUT...our families have about 10 birthdays in May...along with Mother's Day...no way!

June--OUT...my sister, his dad each have a birthday...and Father's Day...nope

July--OUT...there are some family birthdays....there's the 4th which is really a giant party to celebrate, it's not solemn...so we kept it in mind.

August--OUT...my mom's birthday and my nutty aunt got married in August.

September--OUT...DH's birthday AND football season starts.

October--OUT...we didn't want a Halloween wedding.

November--OUT...THANKSGIVING.

December--OUT...Christmas...and you just shouldn't compete with Jesus.

As you see, we actually eliminated EVERY month! We eventually decided on July because it had a holiday that is all about having fun and celebrating. Then we needed a date! We started with the 22nd, the date was taken by the time we went to book it...so we took the 15th [see, he was really so ready to marry me, he had to move up the date] and then we had too many people...so we moved it up another week...the 9th. Which really worked out really cute because it was the same day we held our engagement party on!

[****note: to avoid offending anyone, these are our own thoughts and how we determined when we wanted our wedding...they have no reflection on anyone I've met or conversed with. just 2 bored people who got engaged one day and realized they needed to figure out a date for their wedding.]

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

July for us is a ton of family birthdays including DH and myself. But we both work in the school system so July gave us 2 weeks off before our wedding, a 3 week honeymoon, and a couple of weeks before we had to go back to work. It was amazing!!

We wanted to be engaged for a year before we got married and did not want to get married in teh summer (too hot) so we chose September. Our anniversary will be right around each of our birthdays

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

Well being that I'm a teacher that pretty much eliminated 10 months of the year.

FH really didn't want me to have to worry about a wedding and teaching so he wanted to do it over the summer.

We started out with 7/7/07 but it was booked in a lot of places and the hall I wanted didn't have it available so we pushed it up a week to 6/30/07.

I also originally wanted January because that's when our anniversary is (Jan 31st) but that date was during the week so that was no good. So I decided that 6/30 was ok because it was close to our dating 'day' and plus FH has off the week of July 4th from work - so neither of us have to take off for the honeymoon - so it worked out!!

AUGUST - Still way too hot and humid for all the boys to be in suits, jackets, etc.

SEPTEMBER - Way too many b-days

OCTOBER - Didn't want my wedding associated with Halloween...and also my b-day month

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We wanted spring/summer (may, june, july or august).
When we went to CLM in Feb 2005 they only had 3 dates open for summer of 06:

Aug 26th - Very end of august which we thought would be too hot b/c we wanted an outside ceremony

July 1st - We didn't want a holiday wknd

June 10th - PERFECT!!!!! It was my aunt's 60th birthday so we asked her first and she said what could be better than celebrating my birthday with my entire family there and it being your wedding day! That sold us.

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

only had a 9 month engagement

engaged feb 2005 wanted at least 6 months to plan, but have always since I was a little girl dreamed of a Fall wedding. September was out because of the Jewish Holidays, October was out because it's DH's REALLY busy time at work, so that left November. First week of November too close to October, third week of November too close to Thanksgiving, so we decided on the 2nd Sunday in November. Perfect Fall weather!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We picked April because the weather in Southern Thailand is very hot and dry.

Yes ladies, we picked the month that was best for our honeymoon..no other reason

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We picked October because we love the fall and it just wound up being the day after my parents' anniversary.

We didn't want summer because we didn't want to sweat and there is too much in our families in Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr. Basically October was a quiet month for us!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

we picked November 23 because our 10 year anniversary is December 23 but we obviously cant have it then.

The summer is too hot for me and I get annoyed of that. Plus we love that time of year. October would be ideal but that is my bday month so it couldnt be then lol

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

No doubt about it...it HAD to be a fall wedding.

I mapped the peak season in LI for years...(originally from upstate and it's different).

We chose our hall.

The wedding HAD to be a day wedding...why have a fall wedding at night...umm...you want the foliage.

It also had to be a Sunday for DH & friends.

So...we chose our date Nov. 6. The date we chose was booked (another LIW bride actually), so we were given our date in October.

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We wanted a cold month so we'd appreciate our honeymoon more!!! We also didn't want to wait more than 15 months

Some months were definitely out!

Jan-Feb-Mom said no
March-It's St Patrick's Day every weekend (FFIL is in the bagpipe band for the FDNY)
April-June - I'm swamped at work and I'm basically a one person department
June-August-A lot of people we know do beach weekends
October-The World Series

We picked the first week in December because we figured it's early enough in the month that it doesn't conflict with the holidays too much and there isn't much going on (so we are seeing when we check our hotel room block based on the number of rooms booked!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

ok February - i agree with the Valentine's thing - esp since my original color was red ( now its blue!)

March through November: FH owns a bait store which is obviously seasonal - he cant be away for these months - while it isnt busy in November he wouldnt be able to help out with anything for the months before the wedding.

December: my birthday, christmas, too much special stuff we wanted to spread it around lol

So that leaves January! we knew we needed a new two year engagement bc i had just started working. . . i REALLY wanted to get married on my anniversary (jan 16) BUT we would have had to wait until 2010 LOL so January:

first week: too close to new years
third week: MLK day

SO jan 12 was the saturday before our anniversary !! and there you go! now we will celebrate our TENTH dating anniversary while on our honeymoon and i love it!

great thread!

We knew we wanted a spring or fall wedding and since fall is our favorite time of year, that won out. The 14th we just picked because it sounded right!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

This was easy for us. We both knew we wanted at least a year and a half engagement. We got engaged December 2005. I told him I wanted to be married before June 2007, which made it exactly 1.5 years. Then we both figured since June was my birthday and I'd be turning the BIG 3-OHHHHHH, that we'd have it in May.
May 12th to be exact and its also his Grandparents anniversary :)
