I just have to say that it's about 8 inches. That's what I thought this thread was originally about!

Ooooo....can we see it? LMAO

thats why i clicked on this thread. actually, me and FH picked out the ring 2gether. the carat weight is a certain sexual position (and yes we did that on purpose) the colour is an intial of ours, we bought it in australia, but the diamond was cut in NY and we made sure to get a diamond that wasnt from africa (i feel the mine conditions there are awful and i didnt want to wear something on my finger that a 12 year old child picked). i actually researched what diamond mine conditions were in different countries. the country i chose (canada) had good conditions. i didnt want a blood diamond or a third world diamond. i am not any better than anyone else and i think i would just feel guilty wearing a big diamond, when i knew that that person who picked that diamond is probably really poor.

yes we are severe liberals.

to add to that i am so happy with my ring. it sparkles a lot and it make me smile, that is all that counts.

end my liberal views here.

What an awesome story. I think that is really cool how you incorporated different things into picking your diamond and did research about choosing where it came from. Wow! Very cool.

I couldnt vote, it wasnt up there but 1.77ct center stone that originally had baguettes on each side but we just had the setting changed to fit my wed band.

wow, thanks for posting!!! my center stone is about the same size and i was always wondering what it would look like as a solitaire... i have side stones that i sometimes try to cover up with my fingers to get an idea but it doesn't work!! so thanks for the pics... it's beautiful... i like it either way, maybe one day i'll get an anniversary solitaire ring b/c i love the classic setting of it so much...

as for now, my ring is 1.76 in the center which is round brilliant and my side stones are .40 each (they are pear/teardrop shaped) one on each side of the round center stone... total carat weight is 2.56. i forget all the other stuff, geez--i think it's F or G in the center and then the same with the sides and all are VS1 clarity I remember that for sure-- it's written on the GIA thing--FH is the one who knows ALL the info on it, I don't know where in the world he learned all this stuff!! he said he educated himself before buying it which was really good of him.

BTW.. i think EVERY ring on here is beautiful!! i'm a jewelry freak so no matter how big or small or what shape or cut-- i can appreciate all of them in their own way because they are gorgeous!!!

Re: How big is it- with poll

Mins is also my Grandmother's stone (1 carat). I actually designed the ring myself, because I wanted the hollow heart to be under the diamond. I LOVE my ring! I have tiny fingers, too, so it's perfect. I woul dlike my wedding band to be an etermity band... and I REALLY like the idea that someone posted of incorporating mine and my FH's birthstones. I wonder how that would look...

(I wish I could get these pics bigger... I'll try!)
Anyone know how to make the picture bigger? Hmmmm....

We should re-name this post 'Brag about the size, color and clarity of your rock!'....Just kidding.....I never tell the size of my diamond because in all honesty, it doesn't matter....What matters is the thought and effort DH put into it!!! Remember girls, just because some people have smaller diamonds doesn't mean their DH/FH's love them any less than the girls with the bigger diamonds! To each his own!

Thats so true!! Thats why I hate these threads whenever they come up. I never post the size of mine either for the same reasons you stated. And you shouldn't say 'just kidding' because its true. This is a bragging thread, they always are.

but yet you stilll read and post to them....strange.

Re: How big is it- with poll

OK since some of the talk here has been that no one talks about the smaller stones I thought I would.

My ring (which i have no clear pic of like many others ) is a .45 solitaire and I love it. My fingers are realy long and narrow and so I had always said I didnt want anything too big because it tends to look funny.
The ring I had wanted was an antique one from the 1920's that I had found on Ebay of all places but FH got outbid at the last moment. So knowing how much I loved the ring he took the pictures and he brought them to a jewler and had they recreate the ring for me. For me this just made me love my ring more because I knew how much time and effort he put into getting me what I wanted.
And as far as stone size goes I wouldnt want anything but what I have. For me the ring as a whole was more important than the diamond itself and if it were any bigger I think it would take away from all of the detailing on it that I love.

When it comes to the ring I think you get whats right for you and all that matters is that you love it ( well, and obviously fh because A) he got it for you, and B) we're all here so I thnk we can safely assume we all said yes so you obviouly love him as well!)

Re: How big is it- with poll

Well, I don't care if anybody thinks my ring is small, because my FH picked it out for me. We didn't discuss it or go look together. He went, picked it out, and got it sized. All without me knowing. Mine is a 3 stone princess cut 1/4 carat. I love it and I don't care if I could have had a 6 carat ring, I wouldn't take it. I want what Billy picked and wouldn't take anything else.

Re: How big is it- with poll

My ring is rather unusual...I don't have a diamond, I have a 3 carat aqua blue topaz, marquie cut set sideways in 24k white gold setting....he picked it out on his own because he said it reminded him of the color of my eyes....i love it because it's different and I get comments on it all the time

Re: How big is it- with poll

TO take a picture-if you have a digital camera with the macro function (tulip icon) usually it will let you change the milli that the pic is taken in...put it in the macro function then toggle the buttons LtoR and this SHOULD change the milli of the pic. If this is how your camera works-point camera at your hand and toggle the Milli until it becomes clear....NO FLASH

ALSO-a friend told me she took a picture of her ring at an angle in the mirror with NO FLASH!!! Then crop the pic and enlarge it

Re: How big is it- with poll

We looked at rings before he proposed and I kept saying I wanted smaller. All the jewelers thought I was crazy!! But I have skinny fingers and I work with my hands all day. So I ended up with a 0.81ct center stone and then channel set sidestones that total 1 ct. I LOVE my ring and wouldn't trade it for anything! It's all about what makes you comfortable. I did not like how the bigger rings looked on my finger. SO I feel that this whole small vs. big thread is silly. I do not envy the girls who have larger rings or feel bad for girls with small rings. Their FI knew them well enough to know exactly what they would love and then they fit it into what they could afford regardless of cut, clarity etc..

BTW here's a pic of my ring from a website:

i totally agree!! i was the same way- my center stone is a little over .5 carrot, and i picked it out that way! i have tiny hands, and i work with kids, so i didn't want a big rock on my finger. but i felt like when i first got engaged and people saw the ring, it was like ' oh... thats nice...' or 'oh! its cute!' like you could tell they were thinking 'thats really small!' it just annoyed me becasue it was like they felt sorry for me that DH couldn't 'afford' a bigger ring, when the reality is that i wanted it that way, and we decided it was more important to get a hosue before we were married, and nice furniture for the house, than for me to walk around with a rock on my finger..... its worked out well so far heres my set!

I think your ring and band are beutiful! In my experience people always have something to say about someone's ring whether it's negative or positive! When I got engaged my supervisor told my co-worker that my ring must be fake!!! It made me upset at first but then I realized that what matters is that I have a great relationship with the man of my dreams, NOT the ring size, quality or clarity. He could have gave me a fake gold band and I would wear it with pride!!!!!!
