Ughhh.. I called Nina Doshi as well. SUCH A B*!*H!!!I don't think she should get anymore business especially since she charges about $1600. I am searching for a make up person right now. As soon as I find one, I will post the details.

Thanks Puja!
I'm in the process of looking into hair and make up people too. I've sent messages to Khououd's, CosmoNY, Oksana, and Jill Harth. I was hoping Denise Venti would be available, but she's not =( The rest are all vendors on LIW.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I will be wearing a tiara, but a very small one. My reception lengha is red with silver stiching and white and red swovski crystals, so my tiara has white crystals. I actually got it from a small wedding store in Herald Square, Manhattan that was going out of business, so I got a great deal. For hair/makeup, I'm going with a small salon near me that did my e-party and their prices are awesome. Try some local salons as well, you can save a lot of $$$ that way.
Ans welcome back Puja, how's the planning been going????
I can't believe I'm about 2 months away, still got soooooooooooo much to doo.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
hey ladies.. nina doshi quoted my friend $1400 for my engagement!!! her reasoning was that june is wedding season, so her rates go up!i booked my hair and makeup person already.. but there's poonam sethi in NJ - i've heard good things about her, shikha arya who runs the dulhan expo is great as well.. good luck finding the 'one'.. i went through trials after trials for my engagement, but the wedding person believe it or not was simple!!
i don't have my reception outfit yet
i don't even know what color i want.. but no tiara for me, maybe a mang tikka..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey Mrs V2be- Welcome. Hope the planning is going well. Very nice to meet you..Any suggestions on hair and makeup for the hindu weddings; like what to ask for, when to get trials done- with or without outfit?
Seriously, some of these people are out of their minds with pricing. Nina Doshi quoted me 1650 but doesn't know if she's available. FYI- No trial unless you have your outfit. I'm like go take a hike with your attitude
Nancy- Things are okay. We are going with Duval and DJ Shared. Liz at Duval is so nice. I've only heard great things about them. What else do you have left? The next two months are going to go by so quickly.

duval was great .. the only thing was the photographer that came to the hotel to take my side of the pics.. he was sooo unprofessional. at the end of the night he asked my husbands uncle if he could get a ride to brooklyn!!! ***! at the end the proofs were amazing but i dont think anyone has to deal with anything like that.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
for the wedding, i asked for a 'day look' - i didn't want deep and heavy colors.. i want a 'classic' bride look..for the reception, i don't have my outfit yet - but the thing is i could have done my reception trial as well, but after two hours of hair and makeup, i was so tired.. i said i'll come back when i get my outfit

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Pthapar, yeah Liz at Duval is awesome, she's sooo very sweet and I think they are all great. I also went with DJ Sharad, a little pricey, but people will remember that they had a good time and I know he gives that to them.I still have to book the restaurant, probably gonna go with Tandoor, I still have to book a mendhi person, gotta get my hair trial done with my clips and everything (I booked this salon because they did a great job for my e-party, and pick up my lengha, salwar kameez and my bm lenghas. It sux dealing with indian people ti get things because they take forever and it delays things sooo much.
Also, since I'm having my ceremony in the morning, I'm not having my hair really done for that. Gonna just put it up with no product in it and have like a fake hairpiece or something. It's in the Gurdwara, so nobody will really see it.
I still feel soooo stressed.
Leena, I'm sorry that the photographer did that. but maybe they were just strapped for a ride. As long as they took good pictures, that's all that matters.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Leena- wow. At least you got great pictures. You never know with some photographers. I went with them since they are so experienced. By the way, Congratulations. You look beautiful in your pictures. Were you overall happy with CHCC? Any tips to deal with them would be so helpful.
MrsV2be- I am gettiing my outfit next month from India so when I go, I'll be able to figure out what kind of look I'm going for. I need someone who knows indian make up for the ceremony and can make me look amazing at the reception. I usually go natural everywhere.
Nancy- I am actually trying to set up a time with Tandoor to talk about catering. They are my number one choice. I went to a wedding recently where they did a fantastic job. Also we are not doing the buffet and these guys are very experienced with other serving styles.
I agree with you about the hair at the ceremony. To be honest, I would want a simple bun since its covered by the chunni. I really want my hair down for the reception so I don't want all the products in my hair for the ceremony. They are back to back.
Girls= any tips on the hair stuff.
Deepa- If you find someone who is nice, please let me know. I'll keep you posted on the hair/makeup stuff.
Have a wonderful day girsl

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
hey puja, i going for the same desi for the ceremony look and a glam look for the reception as well..w/ tandoor - we're planning to do family style as well instead of buffet - just be careful b/c they start talking about bowl rental fee and that is $6 a piece!! so imagine if you have about 6 bowls per table and 40 tables
plus some extra bowls if any table asks for seconds.. and they add on tax and stuff too.. just have a game plan when you go speak to them.. tandoor's food is great but just be wary of these little things..
