Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

My FH and I are probably going to do this as our favors:

'Keep the music alive by giving guests customized play lists (highlights from the reception, perhaps? Tunes that mean the most to you two?) in a digital package that looks like the vinyl of yesteryear. ' ~theknot.com

We were thinking of custom packaging it with a little thank you note.

What do you girls think?....do you think we should also add candy or something to it?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Well I hope to get some gifts.. I've been to weddings where guests bring gifts and keep looking for a table to put it.. and even seen a case where they decided to put the gift on the head table

We're thinking either Spain or Italy for our honeymoon.. which I am sure will change by the time..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

hi bride to be's
Some of you are looking/planning your honeymoon or already have an idea sort of to where you want to go!
The usual beautiful places usually consist of...bora bora/tahiti, caribbean, europe, maldives and so forth.

I really thought i'd share my honeymoon experience because it was totally amazing, and UNIQUE. Not many people have been to those destinations on here.

Intitally i wanted to do bora bora or the maldives... but FH somehow convinced me not too..so we ended up doing
Hong Kong
Bali, Indonesia
Malaysia
Phuket Island, Thailand

I spent 5 days in each place, and had the msot fun in Bali, Hong Kong, and Phuket. Malaysia had the greatest food, but not many tourist sites etc.
Hong kong and Malaysia were more touristy places with sites to see, hustle and bustle of NYC. While Bali and Phuket were overly serene and relaxing.

I had the most AMAZING time in BALI. I cant even explain how beautiful the culture, ocean water, beaches and hospitable the people are. Bali is a small island of the coast of Indonesia. We stayed at the Jamahal Resort and Spa in Jimbaran Bay. Totally Private, GORGEOUS villas. 5 star treatment....
Here is the website: http://www.jamahal.net/ I do have a few pictures of the private pool/day bed in my album. Here is the resorts website Jamahal I really just thought they deserve credit! and anyone itnerested in a unique location should definately FM and look in to this under rated place.

In Phuket Island we stayed at Marina Phuket Resort Marina Phukets Website They have individual villa's. The jungle room and oceanview are the best. The resort is situated right on the beach, and again we had the time of our lives. This is also the location were the tsunami came, everything has been rebuilt since. You cant even really tell there was any devastation.

- Anyways, if anyone has any questions feel free to FM me. Im not writing about Hong Kong or Malaysia because those are not the #1 HM spots anyone thinks of. But Hong Kong was fun to shop in, they Built a Disney land there which was cute...

Good Luck honeymoon planning!! and definately do check out BALI as a destination.

Yea, we'll have a gift table....and we'll have a card box on it as well..for those who chose to give cards/money.

GT, don't get upset, it sounds like you have your bases covered by making a registry anyway and spreading the news by word of mouth =)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

My parents are the same exact way.. they're like it's rude to ask our guests to give us a gifts.. in any form cash or registry.. but they're like boxed gifts is inconvenient and forcing our guests to pick something.. FH's family feels the other way.. AAHHH.. yeah I think I'm going to use my big mouth to inform people that $$ is preferred.. but i'm going to get smacked for hinting anything..

And yes, we'll be moving too.. and lugging all these things.. nuts..

Only 6 , FH can't take too many days off. But it's $$ so we probably won't spend all 6 days there.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

There are so many topics going on now, I don't even know which ones to reply to first.

Songs, i decided, I'm gonna choose my own and if they don't like it, too bad, it's getting really hard to please everyone.

MrsV2be, I sent you forum mail to get the mendhi info.

GtBride, for some unique gold shoes, you can try 34th street, herald square in Manhattan. You can find some nice ones, that's where I got my e-party shoes for $20. That's not bad for wearing them one time. They were not the most comfortable, but they were sooo pretty.

Also, I already have my invitations printed and they are ready to mail. We have 3 seperate cards, the main card, the RSVP card and the Reception card. On the smaller reception card, we wrote, 'No Boxed Gifts Please'. I used to think it was rude, but when actually thinking about it, nobody is going to show up to your wedding empty handed, it is assumed that they will be bringing some form of present, why not just be direct and tell them you want money. It's the easiest way of saying it.

I am still registered at Macy's but that is for my shower.

Also, all of my friends are american, so I am not giving out indian favors, I'm doing practical favors. It will be a champagne glass with our names on it with hershey kisses inside. Hey, everybody loves chocolate.

Muttham, your favors are really cute, I like them.

We already booked our honeymoon. We didn't wanna deal with the passport issues, so we are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks. Staying in Oahu and Maui, can't wait!!!!!!!

Luvabul, those pictures are beautiful, I'm glad you had fun. I wish I could afford to go there, but maybe someday, on an anniversary when we have more $$$.

Sorry this reply was long, but that's what you get for not going online all weekend, lol.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hello everyone! I was just doing a search on desi wedding planning and this popped up, so I thought i'd check it out. I've been reading some of the topics posted and found them very helpful! I'm getting married next year in May and am in the midst of all the crazy planning. I'm actually to the point of finding a good DJ. I need one for the mehndi and then the shaadi. But I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for it and I want someone who does a good job! any suggestions?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Welcome Dulhan! =) You're getting married the day after me =)

I'm in the process of looking for a DJ too. What do you consider an arm and a leg? Are you looking for an 'american' DJ? Or an Indian?

Check out the 08 Brides Forum too....I recently posted the question on DJs there.

So how's the rest of the planning going....what vendors have you chosen so far?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I went to Bukhara Grill yesterday.. I loved the samples. I just went to chit chat and give them a copy of the menu we came up with.. they treated us with so much hospitality, gave us free samples, took time out to really find out what we needed.. all in all it was a great experience. I just hope their prices come back to be within our budget

Welcome Dulhan.. another May bride

The DJ for the reception can cost you around 2K plus or minus a couple of hundred depending on who you go with. You could do a so so DJ for the sangeet and mendhi (we all know one right ) and go with the really good one for the reception. Mine is 2K plus, desi and he MC's himself and speaks great English

I am going with a lady from Queens for mendhi, loved her style, and her prices were great as well.. but she did add on a travel charge because it is a little out of her way..
