Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey Deepa,You could possibly have your Garba at Sitar.. earlier this year I went to Garba/Sangeet which was at park.. they put a tent in park.. it was so beautiful.. they had a dance floor put in and I think rented those desi sofas and stuff.. had some nice pav bhaji going on side.. ;)
...Would anyone be able to suggest some good hotels near Corona, NY for May.. everyone is quoting me at 159 plus for a night.. (that's after the discount).. is this the normal rate?:

I got an email from Marriott Courtyard LGA. $109 a night but you have to book 10 or more rooms. Hope this helps.

Hey Gtbride, welcome and congrats. We just went to Bukara Grill this weekend and honestly, the food was not that good. The appetizers were very good, but the main courses, was not worth it. It did not look to have much spice at all. We will not be booking them to cater the wedding. We are gonna check out Jewel of India this weekend.Hey are all you girls getting indian cards?? I acually got american cards. I though the paper and designs were nicer, and my mom loved them, I guess that was just me.
Hey how is Sitar?? My FH went to a few parties catered by them and he didn't really like it so he does not want us to use them. Personally I have never eaten there.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey girls,Question for the newlyweds...what did you do with your sari after the wedding? I had a sari and wedding dress so I had the wedding dressed cleaned and boxed, but i'm not sure what to do with the sari. I've had it cleaned but its just hanging in my closet! I'd like to have it boxed also but i'm not sure if they do that. Any suggestions?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Did you girls use Indian or American photographers/videographer?
I used an American photographer/videographer, called Duval. They do mostly South Asian weddings but are an american company. They recently did my e-party and the proofs came out great. They are not too expensive but not cheap either. But it definately shows in their work. I know other girls on the site have also used them and they highly recommend them.
CHeck out their website, www.Duvalny.com You will be happy. Good Luck!

Hey, welcome newbies!Deepa, i had my garba at The Sterling, it was a perfect hall for a garba because it was fairly large, square and had a separte food area... we had about 200 pple at the garba..
djs bride, i just ended up giving my wedding to my mom, as hubby and i were moving overseas (the uk) but im not really sure about getting it 'boxed'.. if you find out something let me know

Wow.. $109?? I'll talk to them soon.. I guess they quoted me high because I asked for dates in May.. hopefully I can work out the same deal. We're going with Kim's Studios.. they're an Indian couple and they're photography cater to our generaiton as well as our parents'.. as soon as I stepped into their office, I knew they were it.. the runners up however was American.. Proline Studios.. they're great as well.. both are not cheap.. especially Kim's, but their work is excellent..

We've always loved Sitar.. We had our engagement party there as well. With the photographer we were looking at both Indian and American.. an we actually found an Indian guy who shoots like American... you know the journalistic and candid/natural shots... His work is AMAZING... But let me warn you he is pricey.. We just couldn't resist! hehe..

hey craznan, who did your RH recommend? every one i went to recommended tandoor and they also gave us the best price. i know u had ur e-party there and werent too thrilled (i've ate there also and thought it was just average), but when i told my dj who was catering, he said good and that their catering is better than the restauarant. on the other hand, i think sitar food is great, but i've heard not so hot things about their catering.
also, maybe u wanna try diwan or akbar? also, ask ur dj for recommendations

yeah, i think he's IT photographer for indians but also the most expensive. i went with someone indian in the begininning (henna photography) and was soooo not happy with my e-pics. so bcuz i lost a HUGE deposit, i just went with an independent photographer who has been so helpful (gail chatelain)

if you're looking for someone indian, nina doshi (she's expensive though)american, i really like the trial pics of people who have used maureen and claudia pedala (expensive also)
jacqueline nicole does really nice makeup also, plus she's affordable but she was booked for my date

Joshisgirl, I've heard the same thing about Tandoor's catering. Do you know if they do it there, or if they get it from another place in Long Island? I've heard, their catering comes from lond island somewhere, but that's not confirmed.
