Hey rahana,

you should google Pashmina's in jackson heights, i know where it is but cant really describe it (its not on the main street where all the shops are..)

but they have trendy stuff that has good 'work' on it... not sloppy as many other stores in JH do.... def check it out... good luck!

I always forgot is is 106 or 107. If you get off LIE exit 41N and driving pass IKEA, the road split and you stay at the left hand side. and you will see alot of indian stores. Some has very nice stuff.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi Everyone..
I am brand new to the whole desi wedding planning.

Thank you everyone for your help. But one more question. Do you have any advice on outside desi catering? I am looking into tandoor or akbar but don't have a clue on what to ask, and what to expect? Do they allow food sampling? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i'm getting my food catered by tandoor (they were recommended by my RH) and they do allow sampling, but i think it's after you book with them. set up a meeting with a preliminary menu of what you're looking for (not specifics but what you're looking for, like how many veg. dishes and how many non-veg).

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

welcome! pthapar

you should think about how many dishes you want, (like 3 meat ,2 veggie, 2 desert etc.) and then tell them what you want (open bar?) get a quote and compare both places and then go back to necotiate with them.
also, just go there have a dinner in both places once, and see which one you like better. after you choose it, have a sampling with the dishes you think you want, then choose the food.

how's everyone else doing?
I just took my gown to alteration. $$$$
I hope I will finish the whole invitation things.. it is driving me crazy
Booke hair/MU..one headache is gone.

RGV, you look very nice in the gown!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Welcome pthapar! I actually had my engagement party at Tandoor recently and the guests loved the food. But you do need to be specific when it comes to exactly what type of dishes you want. For the eparty cocktail hour, I asked for chicken tikka and it happened to be white chicken tikka. I should have told them tandori chicken tikka. So just try and be specific, otherwise the food was great.

Good luck with your planning, the girls here are great when it comes to helping out. Most of my friends are not desi so it's hard for me to do all the planning on my own and the girls here know a lot and are great!!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thank you everyone. Tandoor has done many weddings that I have been to and we always have our parties at akbar so the food is equally great. However, I'm worried about pricing and how they are with outside catering?

Also for those crest hollow brides any tips would be helpful. So far I am not happy with them but afraid to voice it because I don't want more problems later. I just found out that they are limited on cakes and the time you choose to get there. I have both my wedding and reception there and I am freaking out like no tomorrow.
