Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Posted by joshisgirl

thanks! i'm still debating, though... all the ladies in my family said that it should be up for the wedding and down for the reception, but i'm not having the hair stylist for the whole day, just the morning....so confused

Josh
actually I think this is what I am going to do, I have to have my hair up in the morning, and I will have my hair down at night, can you have 2 appoinment with the hair person? so you dont have to have her for the whole day.

how's other girls doing?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I am thinking to have it fully up for the ceremony in the morning and then add on some extensions to the updo for the reception. My ceremony will be taking place early, around 9:00 Am since it is a Sikh ceremony, so I'm keeping the updo very simple and then accentuating it in the evening so it looks like it is partially down.

I hope that makes sense, but Josh, what do you think about that idea??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

craznan, i think that's a good idea... but i don't want to be responsible for adding on my own extensions (i'm not into hair or make-up at all :) who will do it for you?), did you buy them already?, and do you know who's doing your hair? (sorry for the multiple questions)

gg - i have a trial with khouloud's on aug. 20 and i think i'm going to ask her about doing that (coming in the middle of the day to do another hairstyle) have you booked anyone yet?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Josh, I haven't decided what I'm going to do. If i'm going to have somebody come to the house, if i'm going to have my friend do it, I really don't know yet. The schedule for the day is already so crazy sine the ceremony is so early, so I haven't decided. I've already been going crazy with just selecting a photographer, I don't even know when to decide for the hair and makeup. But more then likely, a lot of indian salons carry the extensions. I know Rita Beauty Salon in Flushing has them because I see them on the wall all the time. I'll probably have 2 different people for the hair and makeup so it will take up less time.

I'm not even sure yet if I should use an indian person for the hair and makeup, or american, or both, i'm so confused right now. Sorry I can't be more of a help to you. I know yours is right around the corner. Did you get everything else yet? The reception outfit and bm's outfits?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Josh, I am having a sikh wedding as well, so I have to have my hair up in the morning, and I will keep it simple.
I will go to a indian hair salon instead having them come over,(hopefully it will be cheaper) but I think I will have 2 appoinment so I don't have to worry about it since plus there is time between morning ceremony and reception.
I haven't have any trial yet, I will start looking in mid Aug.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey trinisweetness,

I haven't officially setup a timeline, but I think here is something that I might be working with:

7:00 Am - start getting ready for ceremony, photographer arrives

9:00 Am - leave for the Gurdwara

9:30 Am - barat

10:00 Am - ceremony begins

12-12:30 PM - ceremony ends

12:30 - 1:00 pm - pictures outside with family

1:00 pm - limo arrives to take us to my house

1:30 - arrive at my house to start getting ready for the reception (maybe eat lunch, but doubt there will be any food in my stomach all day)

Between 1:30 - 4:00 pm take pictures outside my house with the Rolls Royce and family and then off to the reception hall for more pictures.

6:00 - 7:00 pm - cocktail hour

the rest is not officially scheduled but the reception will end arounf 12:00 am.

Hope this helps, but this is with a Sikh ceremony in the morning, not a hindu ceremony. Also, this was recently done, but it will probably be changed about 100 times before the actual day.

How's your planning going??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

My time line is similar with craznan except our ceremony is longer in the morning ( lunch in gurdwara too) so it wont' end until 1:30pm then we head to FH's house to have some other small ceremony and pictures
At around 3pm, I will go get ready again for the reception, and we will head to reception hall for pictures at 5pm and our cocktail starts at 7pm.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey ggcopying, what salon did you find that will be open that early in the morning the day of the ceremony? All the salons near me don't open until about 9am.

Also, I'm sooo nervous about the Sikh ceremony because I have never been to one, so I don't know what goes on there. Also, I think we're gonna do breakfast prior to the ceremony instead of lunch, but that's still tentative.

Are you wearing a salwar kameez to the ceremony and lengha to the reception?

I think if you talk to them they should be flexible to open the salon for you early. Just ask them. It is a special occasion.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Good Luck in India finding everything you need. Unfortunately, nobody in my family will be going to india so we will be having it shipped from there. I will most likely design the outfits here based on fabric and styles and have it made and shipped from india.

Also, where is khoulouds? Let me know how your trial goes, I'm so stumped as to who to use.

Hi girls

I haven't figure out what exactly I am going to do with the hair salon yet, my FSIL is in the business, so she is kinda helping me to arrange this. I will let you know once I make my decision.

I didn't know there is a choice between breakfast or lunch, my FH said lunch, I said ok (He is Sikh). and I am wearing lenghas for both ceremony and reception.

I wish Josh best of luck for shopping in India. I didnt' go there myself but my FMIL is getting our stuff for us.

and you dont have to worry about the ceremony, it is usually around 45 min. and all you do just sit there and walk around the holy book. So dont' be scare.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

The ceremony is only 45 minutes, really?? That's good, at least I won't have to be nervous for that long. I think I'm the only bride who is shopping here is New York and not having anybody go to India. It really doesn't matter but nobody has the time because of work and taking time off of work for the wedding alone, nobody can get to india. But I don't mind, I love the stuff here anyway. I got my eparty lengha here and it is gorgeous. I'll put pics up when I get them. How come you get to wear a lengha to the ceremony?? My FMIL said that I have to wear a salwar kameez. I mean I don't mind either way I guess, whatever works u know. I'm still stressed but calming down a little bit.

Yes, only 45 minues +-, you just sit there and listen and walk around the holy book.
actually it is not a bad thing you get everything here, so there wont' be any suprises. and you can pick what you want, I wish I can do that, but just a little more expensive here. that's all.
I dont' know about salwa kameez/lengha. and I guress it is totally up to your FMIL, my FMIL actually is the one got me the lengha. Maybe you can ask her, but if she already told you that you have to wear SK, I guess you will need to wear it, you don't want to upset her, right?
I am star feeling the stress now, only 3 months to the wedding and still so much to do...
and your FMIL said you can do breakfast instead lunch? Lucky you

RGV, I am glad that your saree are all work out. I am sure they are beautiful!

How about you leena?

We lost a few girls on this thread already, we have to keep this thread alive!
