hey girls, how was the weekend? any suggestions for a rehearsal dinner? Not necessarily looking for indian, open to pretty much anything except sushi (just in case don't want anyone getting sick!) Looking for someplace affordable with private room for a Thursday night in Nassau.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi i'm a newbie to the site. I have been with my fiance for about 8 years and the parents are finally ready for us to get married and now everything is happening so fast. Our engagement party is coming up next month on August 3, 2007 and we have a tentative wedding date for February 2, 2008. I have a few questions that maybe you guys can help out. I was planning on ordering American-style invitations for the wedding since they are very simple and elegant and so many types to choose from. Have any of you used them? Also, do you use the same photographer for the engagement party and the wedding? If so, is it too late to book a good one?
Also, I will be having the ceremony in the Gurudwara as my FH is Sikh, ggcopying, what Gurudwara did you use and how did the clean up situation work out?? Thanks guys, I'm gonna be on this site everyday at work, hope my IT department doesn't find out, lol!

welcome craznan! congrats on your engagement! I didn't use American invites but a good friend did and she went through a store located in merrick. I think you'd have to go in and meet with the owner, let me know if you're interested and i'll get you the info. I'm using Duet for photography but didnt use them for eparty because it was in texas.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks, I would really appreciate getting the information on the company she used in Merrick. I ordered a few samples from magazines online but I would much rather deal with a person directly. Thanks.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

welcome craznan!!
im not familiar with american invite places, but the DIY fold ones look really nice... also if you go on some indian invitation sites, you might be able to find some that are really elegant and simple yet it gives the indian touch....

jlu.. have you been to Jaiya in hicksville? that place is swarmed by indians, the food is REALLY good and they have a big enough place i think... its thai btw... their veggie soup is soooooooo gooood!!!!!

sue -- you can also try http://www.saiflowers.com/
but something i noticed was that those flowers are native to india (i THINK) im not sure what they're called but they use it alot for womens hair in india and i haven't seen them here.... but you may want to ask an indian flower place like sai...

good luck all!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Craznan, welcome

Our ceremony is in Glen Cove Gurudwara and they recommended someone who clean there regularly, I forgot how much he suggested us to pay (FH is the one who deal with them). but it was a resonable price.
There are many American-style invitation, run a search here, you can find a lot of reviews for different vendors.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks, I really appreciate all the help. I haven't started stressing just yet, but I think I might soon. Is it just me, or do the parents seem to have more control over your wedding than you do. I feel as though, what I want counts, but what they agree on, counts more. I guess I'm just trying to vent because my wedding planning just began, and the parents are already starting to make decisions. Is it just me, or are other desi brides feeling the same way

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hahahaha, so this is just the beginning....I guess it will take me some time to eventually keep persisting that what FH and what I want matter as well......it's going to be a long and grueling 6 months....

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Nanking looks beautiful, good luck. I didn't have much of a choise when picking where to have my eparty. My FH's parents chose the place, it's not bad but very common. Anyway, how all you girls doing??? Any other stressors that I should be aware of since I just starting my planning process?? Also, when you guys booked the photographers, were they american or indian??
