Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey V,

Just wanted to let you know, that the pics i posted the other day of friends/cousins were done by Ruchi and her mom at my mehendi party, but my wedding mehendi was done (2 days before) by Susmita, my makeup lady for the wedding... just wanted to clarify :)

but i was amazed at Ruchi's work, its so perfect! and she works incredibly fast... i feel kinda bad that they worked for 4 hours and didnt take a bite to eat!!

Welcome Muttham!! I had lenghas for my bm's. I think they are easier to move around in. Also, my bm's and myself are not the skinniest girls, so I don't like showing my tummy. Lenghas were the safer bet and they came out sooooo nice, ( well hopefully, they have yet to arrive from india and I ordered them back in September).

Good Luck with all the planning.

Yea, I'm not thrilled about wearing a sari at the reception myself...especially a silk one....they usually make me look bigger =\ I think saris are just easier and cheaper for all my girls to get, but lenghas would have been nice...especially since my 12 yr old sis is a bridesmaid.

Hey Ladies,

Welcome muttham - lovely alias (it means kisses in my language)
I spoke to Mac this past weekend, he did give us a fairly decent price, I am concerned about their offsite catering.. I know their food is really good, but haven't heard of anyone using them at another venue.. just need to look into that..

o another note.. i booked my hair/makeup person..

Mrs.V2be....are you malayalee?...it means kiss in my language too =)

Mac uses Diwan for their catering, right?....try speaking with the owner of Diwan, he told they do catering for various vendors all the time...like at the Vanderbilt mansion and things.

Who did you choose for hair and make up?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Joshisgirl, Wow, the time has already come, good luck and remember to just enjoy it!!!!

Ruchi seems to be a little bit pricey compared to some of the salons in Queens. Also, she is a little bit far, so I am skeptical in booking her for a winter wedding.

Thanks gibi, I can't wait to see them. How did the proofs come out???

GtBride, I booked DJ Sharad, and he is a little on the pricier side but I have been to his parties and they are awesome. The mc's also, are soooo good, they get so involved. He charged me $1750 for the dj and mc and for music during cocktail hour. I might take the extra lighting but I'm not sure. He was totally willing to work within my budget.

Muttham, the lenghas we got were not that bad, I haggled them on the price and they only paid $200 for custom tailored lenghas, all the same style. I think that was a good price.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Yeah I think it sounds reasonable. When I was looking at all the extras the Dj had on the list, it can definately come up to even more than that since you are getting a lot. Who did you get the quote from??

That's an amazingly good price!! I was being told like $150 for decent saris (bought in NY though). I'm hoping my mom can get nice ones for at least half that in India.
