Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!

Now I wish my dress was custom made! I agree with Jess and Christine, PrincessConsuela, get both made and wear one for the ceremony and one for the reception!

Sasha- your dress is stunning! Your mother is so amazing.

Ladies!

Question: how much does it cost (appx) to have a dress like that made? For example a re-make of a Reemie? Detailed bodice, full skirt, and strapless?

TIA

My woman charges approximately $500 including the fabric. However this can vary based on things...but nothing higher than $600.

you cannot go to a 'seamstress' with a shop and such- you need to travel to someone who works out of their house and by word of mouth...also, I imagine someone who has cheap rent and low property taxes!

I am paying a little more than Christine- but less than $1000 on a $5000 dress!

SASHA!!!! your dress is fabulous. I know I read you had some problems getting in completely on time, but wow- simply beautiful! would you be so kind as to give me your indian embroidery contact!!

Goldi- both dreses are stunning, but I really love the one you chose- fantastic and the back- it's so different and beautiful.

Thanks. the Steven Yearick dress weighed about 10 pounds. It was so heavily beaded and just breathtaking. I am pleased with my ultimate choice. It is a dress for a tall person (I'm 5'8') with curves. I truly did not want a ballerina style dress with a big skirt and crinoline. It would be the furthest thing from MY STYLE as I tend to be a minimalist depsite my expensive tastes. I think I would have chosen a long line sleek dress regardless of if I had to cover a tattoo or not.

Minimalist does not always mean inexpensive. BTW, the dress you picked is GORGEOUS!!! Though I have to say that was probably a tough decision because the Steve Yearick was absolutely stunning too!

Tell me about it. I am not a theme bride but I wanted the feeling of my wedding to be like an 'upscale dinner party with a bride and a groom'. I am more of the anti-bride type. I do not like white bridal-ish things. I don't like cutsey knick-knacks with my name all over it. I want understated elegance but it does come with a price. For example, I am ordering very plain LOOKING invitations but they are engraved and are expensive as well (though we are getting a decent discount).

Don't get me wrong. I love my dress, but if I had carte blanche, I would have probably gotten the other one.

The material is phenominal....she loves working with silk shantang, but will work with anything you want. High Quality. If you want to save money, then she'll use cheaper material - all depends on what you want.

She has a wall full of all the dresses she's made...like a portfolio.

She won't do anything unless she runs it by you first. Samples of the fabric are also available.
