My biggest dilema, is the whole 'I need sleeves' situation. No offense to anyone, but I HATE 99.9% of the long sleeve dresses b/c they're just terrible.
I feel your pain. I dont have a sleeve issue, I had a back issue. I needed to cover a tattoo between my shoulder blades and only the expensive couture dresses were able to serve my need. I was only shown about 5 dresses - thats all they had that could cover my tattoo. I ended up with a Romona Keveza dress which I love. The salon knocked about $700 off the dress and it still cost an arm and a leg. I also tried on a Steven Yearick dress that cost about $4000. If I would have fit in the sample size, they would have cut the price.
#1 My dress - Romona Keveza
#2 The Steven Yearick I could not afford. (it came up very high in the back and was heavily beaded) It was stunning.
Goldi- both dreses are stunning, but I really love the one you chose- fantastic and the back- it's so different and beautiful.

No way - totally having a liner! I'm not a SLU-T Jess! Trashy - yes, but not before the Eyes of GOD! SHEESH....I will also have the dress in WHITE - Ivory doesn't go over well with mom - I had enough trouble convincing her of having a Sash and it being gold!
Don't talk to Princess Consuela until she decides which dress she's going with! She had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole week and weekend with her POLL!
nice nice ladies that is okay you dont have to talk to me. i hopefully will have news monday afternoon on my gown! i was just looking at the close up of your gown christine and it is gorgeous!!!! i didnt think you werent going to get liner in the dress i just wanted to know if it was going to be a nude colored liner or solid white which jmo would give the gown a different look.

Random: My mom's Syrian....Anyway, I honestly don't like the whole sheer thing, and I don't like that most of the designers that make long sleeves add a BELL to it....why do they have to flare at the bottom? If I wanted to look like an F'ing Princess from Medieval Times....I'd just buy a COSTUME!
Sorry for the RANT! LOL
I haven't ventured into the whole fabric arena as of yet. This dress maker apparantly has some type of a HOOK somewhere...we'll see what happens.

that might be interesting...to have a the contrasting liner under the lace- it would definitely give the dress a different look...
hmmm Consuela, does this mean you are going for the 'different' dress....hmmmm LOL
hey- if you want, you can have both dresses made for the price of purchasing one...then you don't have to choose! LOL![]()

I have to agree with you 100%. Most long sleeve gowns are totally not my taste.

Jess,
Who are you using to make your gown? The same woman as Christine? I apologize if this is a redundant question, but I didn't notice throughout the thread if you mentioned this info.

ditto- I don't get it either...I guess it's supposed to add drama and flair...and maybe a little tiny bell would be nice....but they just go waaayyy overboard on most, of course this is JMO!

no, the woman that is making my gown is a retired professional wedding dress maker (FIT alum, so I know I am in good hands
) she just happens to be in fh's family, so she is doing it for me, kind of as a favor I guess- but mostly because she is genuinely happy and excited for us...and she LOVES the design and cut of my dress. She may take on a few gowns here and there, so I could ask her if anyone else is interested. she does live in Brooklyn though (WIlliamsburg) and does NOT travel well (she is old- 85 I think, and she needs to be driven anywhere)She reminds me kind of as yoda- b/c she looks so small and frail- but a sewing machine is her ligh-saber----she just comes out of nowhere with her skills!

You're killing me!!! I'm picturing this little old lady who looks like Yoda sitting at a sewing machine!! 85 and she still can make a dress god bless her!!! I am always amazed by the older generations... They have an incredible work ethic! I was sort of hoping she was out on the island but no big deal. I'll just keep looking!!Thanks!

I wish I had a grandmother like that! It always adds that special something!I honestly think getting a wedding dress custom made is really special. You're involved in the making, the ideas, and the whole process....so it's very sentimental.

I'm not an '06 bride, but can I play?
My dress was made by mom and was inspired by this Amsale...of course, the model is very thin so I adjusted the beading and design to emphasize my body type.
There are a lot more pictures posted in my review on The Bride's Review board...

Just gorgeous Sasha!
THANK YOU!Girls, the best part (besides having a dress made for YOUR body type) was the fact that the original was $4500...my dress was under $300 and that included HAND embroidery on silver thread from India and Italian silk satin!
Why pay more?
ETA: Of course my mom didn't charge me labor, but having your dress made by a professional still has a lot of benefits.

Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!
Ladies!Question: how much does it cost (appx) to have a dress like that made? For example a re-make of a Reemie? Detailed bodice, full skirt, and strapless?
TIA
