It all depends on what type of ceremony you will be having, some are longer than others. Here's how my crazy day went:

7:00 am - woke up, got ready at home
9:00 am - left to go to Gurdwara for ceremony
12:30 pm - ceremony completed, had lunch
1:30 pm - went to mother-in-law's house for ceremony and celebration
3:00 pm - Arrived at salon to get ready ( was supposed to be there by 2:00 but it didn't work)
5:30 pm - Left the salon to go home and get dressed (Was supposed to be at the hall by 6:00 for pictures, but again, late)
6:30 pm - left home to go to the hall for pictures
7:00 pm - coctail hour began and we took a few family shots

Now the whole day did not go exactly as planned because family and bridesmaids will always delay you, but if you don't freak out, you will have time for everything! Good Luck and I hope this helped.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Congratulations - hope you guys have a great time on the honeymoon!

On a sidenote - did you girls have any slow songs at the engagement party? I want them but FH says he wants our first dance to a slow song for our wedding. I thought a couple of slow songs - none that we'd start off but for all couples would be a good way to transition into dancing after dinner. Any thoughts?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey ladies..feeling sad today..things are already messing up. :(
first of all, the whole invitation mess up. We have the hall from 8:30 - 1:30 which is pretty late! i have no idea what my mom and i were thinking..and there is nothing we can do about it now..the only thing we are thinking is to make it just a reception now, no ceremony. we will do the nikkah ceremony day of mehndi, which is not unusual. I have seen lots of ppl do that. But i really didnt want to do that. I guess i have no choice now... :(
Now I gotta figure out the whole timeline for the reception, since it starts so late! these are the things i need to consider
appetizers timing
groom entrance
my entrance
first dance
cake cutting
speeches
dinner timing

I have no idea what the correct order should be.and what times for food. helppp!! :(

Aww...chin Up I say, have all your events over by 10PM the lastest and then party the night away

appetizer timing:
If it's an hr. Could you cut it down to 1/2hr? I'm not sure if your RH will allow that or is it possible incorporate it into the dinner menu?

Groom entrance/my entrance: Could you enter together? Say 9:00 PM (depending on the appt. Timing)

first dance: 9:15 PM
cake cutting: 9:20 PM
speeches: 9:30 PM - 9:45 PM (or less)
dinner timing: I'd start at 9:30 - 10:30.

I hope this helps

Aww - don't worry - if you really want to do the nikkah the day of - then do it! cut down on the appetizers and if anything you won't have as much dancing - but at least you'll get through everything you want to get through.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...not yet anyway. The Sterling does mostly indian events so talk to them about what an appropriate timeline would be. I would try to get everything important done by 10:30, 11, so people won't be exhausted.....and that gives you plenty of time to continue partying.............you can do whatever you consider to be the 'fun' stuff (that maybe the adults won't appreciate as much) after it gets a bit late. And maybe consider entering together and going straight into the first dance before you guys take your seats, then speeches, then cake cutting? But, IMO, you should talk to the catering hall....i'm sure they have a lot of experience with this.

knowing desis and how 'punctual' they are, we cant do it on the day of.. it takes 20 minutes in itself. and i really want the other stuff done too. hoping to get everything done (speeches, first dance, cake) before dinner, since ppl tend to leave right after! I want there to be dancing. I know there wont be so much, but i want there to be some at least!

don't worry.. it can be fixed!!

do you think sterling would change the time for you? in that case, you wouldn;t have to change the timing on your cards either..

also, you can get married on the same day hun.. do you think you can serve food during the ceremony?
