Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

AR31 - No problem - I loved the wording too - I'll just end up doing mehndi at home - wed would be too early for a sunday wedding.

Dulhan - the wording for that hour is really cute - good idea!

I am in Cancun right now! We leave on Wednesday for NY and then i move to Cali on Friday
The weather is amazing here and the food at Excellence is so good. I think i gain all the weight back again...lol.

I was wondering do you girls have any recommendations for music for my wedding video? For my ceremony i want something traditional but i am in a freeze of song right now. Please help!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Actually, I don't think the grooms family is coming to my mehendi.
I am having it at home. We are doing the sangeet together. There will be the mehendi ladies there to put it on the groom's side.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Traditionally, the mehendi is done separately for the bride and groom. Like one at his house, one at mine. But we are actually combining it and having it at a place. So the grooms family will def be there :)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Who are you ladies getting to apply your mehendi? Im looking for someone who does it CHEAP! All these ladies are charging like 300-500! thats crazzyy! I really dont want to pay that much. Someone much less in price. They dont have to be a 'bridal' artist. As long as they put it on nice and neat, and do a good job.

I actually had them written on my invites and it worked out perfectly. I also had a card box at the wedding, so nobody can run away with the envelope bag.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i highly recommend not put 'no boxed gifts please'.. i've seen it a few times as well.. and it doesn't come across well no matter how you look at it.. jmo..

most people bring cash these days anyway.. or have a small registry with items that people cannot carry over and stuff rather than writing it..

eta: if you don't want gifts, pass it by word of mouth or if you plan on having a website, include a link or somethig with like 5 items on your registry.. people will get the idea.. do not include it on your invite.. then again.. it's jmo..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

well i had originally set up at macys, but then FH and I went to BBB the next day and thought it was soooo much better!!! they have anything and everything there! so we have our registry at BBB.
Also, I feel the 'no boxed gifts please' is needed with desi ppl. I got it printed on my invites, and my in-laws got it on their valima card as well. We are hoping ppl just give cash, but we are setting up the registry so they have another option and not just limited to cash.
Oh btw we were planning on making a small registry too, but when we went we ended up putting a lot. But im sure not everyone will be purchasing from registry. Plus you can always return if needed.

I personally wouldn't write it on the invites. Most people don't want to schlep big boxes to a wedding anyway, so a lot of times, if they get you a gift....it'll be mailed to the home (especially if it's off a registry).

FH & I registered at BBB & Macys and have already gotten quite a few gifts from guests who can't attend. And, a lot of things are being bought for the shower. We think most guests at the wedding will give cash or if they buy something off the registry, will just have it shipped instead of bringing it themselves.
