yeahhh ur right. they do ship it if its off a registry. I guess we put the 'no boxed gifts' so that ppl dont decide on bringing their own boxed gifts..u know?basically a way of saying 'cash please' hahahahah

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey guys! My name is sonia and i'm gettign married in 4 months. I live in MD and my fiance lives in NY which is where the wedding is.On the 12th i am going to NY to find some make up and hair places. Does anyone know any salons that are good? Im getting married at the Villa Barone Manor in Bronx and I would want them to come over there.
If you do know someone can you please give me their name and phone number and if you know the rate? and if you have any pictures!!!
its soooo hard finding vendors when you dont live in the state and you cant go every weekend!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Ok so this is the timeline I have thought of for the Wedding reception. Let me know what you think :)Hall booked 8:30 to 1:30am
Appetizer hour 8:30-9:15
8:30 guests come in.have appetizers
9:00 FH comes in with Baraat
I come in with siblings
( I was also thinking we should introduce parents. Like DJ announces 'Bride's parents' and 'Grooms' Parents' and they walk in. And then siblings as well)
9:35-40 Speeches
10:00 First Dance -->followed by inviting ppl to come dance
10:30 to 11:30 Dinner served
11:00 Cake cutting

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hi girls - haven't been on in a while - my engagement party was this past weekend at the sterling - it was amazing! - I was so nervous but everything went smoothly and FH and I had a blast plus everyone was raving about the food - obviously I wouldn't really know but that's to be expected. Anyhow - the timeline looks good - my only suggestion based on this past weekend is pushing back dinner as much as you can - b/c no one really gets on the dance floor after dinner and they just start leaving. For my reception I'd like to push dinner to like 11. In terms of no boxed gifts - I think it's totally acceptable - even for the engagement most everyone gave $ - but just in case - I'm planning on putting it in the reception invite. It's totally acceptable in NY and so many couples do it.

So glad your engagement party went well! considering the fact that my wedding will be at the sterling, it makes me feel a lil better lol put up some pics!!
yeah i think maybe dinner can start at 11? I think thats prob a good idea, since ppl leave after.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey girlsSome more questions.
Is anyone using an actual Doli? I thought it would cute and different but I cant find a vendor for it. I'm going to ask my mandap guy but I just wanted to ask here as well.
Also, these are the people that I am considering to do my make up and hair with. Does anyone know how they are? I rather get some feedback before I go since I don't have much time.
Archi's Beauty Salon
Punum Seth Bridal Looks
Femina Beauty Salon
Neelu's Khubsoorat
Thanks!

You may also want to look into Kalpana Patel.www.kalpanabeauty.com
She is doing my hair for my wedding and reception. She does makeup as well but I am using my makeup artist that I've had for the last few years.
I'm not using a Doli but usually the place you get your mandap will have them for an additonal fee.

I went for a trial at Neelu's.. not a big fan.. she totally over did it even after i asked to look more natural. Funniest thing..she kept taking pictures of me and adding more blush!.. But everyone is diff so whom ever you choose definately go for trials!.
I'm coming in on a doli... see pic.. ( wedding colors are pink & orange). Our Mandap guy is providing it... it was like $250

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
yeah but the thing is ur getting ur hair done over again for reception, and im sure ur makeup will be a lil different. so you will be charged as if your getting two of them.i mean ur hair will be all done and up with hairspray for ur ceremony, she cant just take it all out and let it down. she will have to do it all over again. thats why
i know its a lot of money, but is that the average price ur getting ?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Yes, thats the average price I am getting. I think I am just gonna pick Habib. I have a trial with her on Saturday.I am going to start getting faicials in April. Once a month till July. In april I will also try the wax with the lady that is doing it for my wedding just to make sure im not allergic or anything like that. So I would say start now!
