Re: Greek Brides??
In a way I'm glad that my family isn't a member there anymore & that we are where we are (Holy Trinity in Hicksville).... Our priest loves us & that's what it boils down to.... He hasn't mentioned a dime to us yet!

Re: Greek Brides??
marcela - it's 730 over 2 years (I should clarify more ) 365 per year but they guilt you into that being a good deal because the church really needs DOUBLE the 365 a year to run. blablabla it's all in the membership pack.I don't understand why it's that expensive if we won't be going there after we get married (we'll be moving away from here somewhere).

Re: Greek Brides??
Oh ok, it's still bad, but better. We got engaged in 2/2002, so we would have paid them $900 plus whatever the Kumbaro has to pay.

Re: Greek Brides??
I went to greek dance too. Every Friday afternoon at St. Nicks. My husband can't dance either but at least he tried. He was so off beat...it was hysterical.

Fitobe says dancing is for vlaxous. I keep having to remind him that his ancestors had goats as pets and wore skirts during wartime Let's see if he listens lol

Re: Greek Brides??
LOL..I'm laughing with the dancing posts!!I can't believe the nerve of the church sometimes . They totally take advantage because they know that we have no other choice! On my wedding day (after we paid over $900 for memberships for me, DH and the koubaro & for the organist), in all the commotion my mom forgot to 'tip' the priest after the ceremony. Well would you believe that he (or some other clergy member) sent someone outside to ask us for a tip??? The point is not the $$$, because I had all the tip envelopes marked and ready, but it baffles me that a priest charges to marry you!

Demetra!! I thought it was just St. Nicks I love going to church, but all this stuff makes me hate it! How un-Christian!

Re: Greek Brides??
That's crazy Demetra.I need to learn some Greek steps too. I pretty much know the circle dances, but would really love to learn the 'bride's dance'. I don't know the name of it. FFIL would be so proud of me if I danced it at the wedding.

Re: Greek Brides??
xasaposeviko - that's the fast one. Any dance specific to your xorio or place. I love the ikariotiko but no one else knows it and I'm starting to forget it. How about a tsamiko too - slow kind of boring if you ask me. hrmm what else - some sort of sirto. Dancing in front of the groom is just doing the steps backward - ie when they go forward the steps go backwards for you.

Re: Greek Brides??
I can't believe the man came running after you for the tip! They are so kidding us.I think most churches do give dance lessons. You should check with the office. Once you learn the steps...it's pretty easy to do 'fancy footwork' (this is what me & my cousins call it) in the front of the line. Just make sure you go with the beat.
