Re: Greek Brides??
That's how it is at Holy Trinity!!!! It's an amazing feeling.... and the fun thing is - It's on a side street, and all the people that live across the street from the church know this day is coming & you can actually see them in their windows watching the entire congregation! What I really hate about it being on a side street is that there are always some jerks who feel the need to hum in their own way when we are singing Christos Anesti...

Re: Greek Brides??
Totally fun - I remember when I was little and we'd go to church and play with the wax and smell the burnt hair lol

Re: Greek Brides??
Hey guys I have a questionI got a lot of paperwork from the Church today. I have to fill out this huge piece of paper asking me what my job is, what my parents and FIL's careers were - where they were born, what religion they are... They also said that it doesn't matter if my parents are members of the church, that me and FItobe have to become members as a couple for the next two years (that's over 700 dollars!) Plus, the koumbaro has to be a member of his church for the next two years as well! Did your churches say this or is it just mine???

Re: Greek Brides??
Are you getting married at St. Nicks? We were told that we HAD to do that at St. Nick's and that was one of the reasons that we decided not to get married there. Not b/c of the $$ but b/c $$ was the ONLY thing they cared about. We decided to get married at St. Paul's in Hempstead. We just went there chose the date and were told that we could pay the $500 fee anytime we wanted to. We had such a better experience at St. Paul's.
Edited to say: I really hope I didn't offend anyone by what I said about St. Nick's. Just wanted to share our experience.

Re: Greek Brides??
I just looked at my letter from my church (St. Demetrios in Merrick) and it states that both the bride and groom (if they are both Orthodox) must be supporting members of a parish. It does not specify how many years. The Koumbaros or Koumbara must also be a member of a Greek Orthodox Church (again it does not specify which church, so I am assuming any GO Church). HOwever, it states that it is expected that either the bride or groom or the koumbaro must be a member of St. Demetrios Church or else a $300 donation is required.Hope this helps Olga.

Re: Greek Brides??
It does they just want my money lolThey want us as a couple to join. My FItobe is from Jersey it makes no sense. Plus, why force the Koumbaro to become a member as well? I'm just venting but it is going to cost all of us over 1000 dollars between paying for membership and 'tipping' the priest at the wedding! Isn't that nuts!!
Marcela - I really want to get married at St. Nick's - I've been going there since I was five. It just majorly irritates me that they are all about the money. It's way too much - I'm gonna try and see how long I can get away with not paying for this year and next year. It's nuts!!

Re: Greek Brides??
You are absolutely right! I think it is ridiculous about the prices to become members.

Re: Greek Brides??
My cousin just had her - she gave these cute little baskets filled with potporri (sp?). She wrapped it in toulle with a ribbon. I've heard from girls on this board that one did a recepie for sugar cookies: they gave out a bag of the dry ingredients and the recepie and heart cookie cutters. I thought that was adorable!

Re: Greek Brides??
HI ladies! It's my first time on the boards, and I am so happy to finally find some Greeks to relate to! It's lonely out here! I grew up at Holy Trinity in Hicksville. Perhaps the other Trinity girl and I know each other? Also, any advice for Greek DJs?

Re: Greek Brides??
For a Greek DJ I would reccomend Bravo Sound International. They are AMAZING!! We had them for my e-party and even though I am having a band for the wedding I am booking them for a DJ as well. You have to check them out. Ask for Mike...he is the owner. Their number is 718-777-6543. They are located in Astoria.

Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks! I have an appointment with Mike next week, but I was wondering if there were any others. Our problem is that there aren't many Greeks coming to the wedding because most of our family is in Greece. We want to have Greek music, and plenty of it, but we don't want to make the rest of the guests feel uncomfortable. I guess that's why a Greek band is pretty much out.

Re: Greek Brides??
Hi Lisa- Yes,I went to Greek School, Greek Dancing, Jr. Choir, and everything else my parents could possibly fit into my schedule. My dad was the First President of Holy Trinty so you can only imagine that it became my life when I was younger. I will be 29 next month, so I bet I am older than you. How old are you?
