Re: Greek Brides??

I want to go to get the stefana and maybe labades. Otherwise, I FH and I will have to make a trip in the winter. We are looking to go for 3-4 weeks.

Re: Greek Brides??

Aren't the boubounieres the favors? I was also told by FH's family that the koubmaro would get the favors.

Re: Greek Brides??

Ok, I am pretty good w/greek traditions so I will share with you girls what I know.

In Greece, the the boumbouniera w/the koufeta is considered the 'favor' However, here in NY all Greek weddings that I have been to I have received a boumbouniera AND a favor (for example, salt and pepper shakers, cheese board).

Personally, I would love to do just the boumbouniera because we are trying to do everything traditionally (for ex: no bridal party) but I feel as if people might say something. You girls know how Greeks can be sometimes!!
But most likely we will end up doing both, however that is why I asked my question: Is the koumbaro responsible for the favors too??

Re: Greek Brides??

I'm under the impression he is - we still have to ask him to be the koumbaro officially I will let you know when the time comes.

A lot of Greek weddings I have been to as of Late in Greece have had more than just the 'boubouniera' - they have also had a flower or something simple like that.

Re: Greek Brides??

I've seen that in Greece too, but I just feel that at Greek weddings here I feel that we are obligated to give something else too!!

Re: Greek Brides??

Well weddings here are much more expensive per person and thus people tend to give more to each couple than they would in Greece. So it's just a small token of thank you because they have bought you all this stuff along the way and given you cash for your wedding (engagement parties, house warming, bridal shower...) I don't think it 'breaks tradition' at all. American weddings are just bigger productions and thus you need to give a little more for all the extra you get

Re: Greek Brides??

Are any of you girls having family come from Greece for your wedding? If so, are you paying or help pay for airfare (airfare for Sept right after the Olympics is majorly gonna stink pricewise) and hotel costs?

I want to def help with hotel costs but the plane fare is going to be SICK!!!
