We live in Glen Cove and love it, however we are debating whether or not we want to buy here...the school district is not the greatest...so we would have to send our kids to private school. Oyster Bay is nice also. It Depends on what you want to spend...any place in this area of the North Shore is expensive. Massapequa is lovely, but many parts of it are expensive...the more inexpensive houses are in the Amittyville school district which isnt too great either. There are tons of nice towns here on LI the key is to pic a town and stick with it because you can get so confused!

sorry! I didnt realize you guys were looking to rent! My bad!

I am so glad you posted this, I have to move to LI ASAP and obviously since i am not from LI not sure about every part. So curious to see what everyone will say.

Does anyone have info on Oyster bay, glen cove, seaford and huntington? A few places we are interested in are in those areas

all the areas you listed are terrific!! Huntington just be careful where in huntigton you go.

DH and I moved to Seaford in March and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!

Good Luck!!

yeah DH was telling me to be careful with what area of Huntington. He is the one who suggested it but made sure to point that part out.

yeah alot of the places i like are either in OYster bay or seaford

One thing about live up here on the north shore...it takes about 25 mins during rush hour to get to the major highways...so keep that in mind. You can get on Northern Blvd and some other back roads but most of them are only 1 lane. So, even though you are farther west then some places on LI...it might take you just as long to commute. For instance we have friends who live in Deer Park in Suffolk. They have a shorter commute from there to manhattan than me from glen cove to Astoria because they live right off the LIE. Just something you might want to be aware of also...

We live in Huntington and it is AWESOME!!! There is so much to do!! I wouldn't live anywhere else on the island...except maybe the surrounding areas, like East Northport, Northport, Greenlawn, Cold Spring Harbor...and of course Lloyd Harbor..haha!!

There are tons of restaurants and bars and the scenery is great!! Let me know if you have any questions!!

I actually have 3 apartments to go see on saturday and they are all in kings park, which is in huntington right? bc i am sure the listing said Huntington(kings park) unless i am going crazy haha. This guy owns all 3 apartments and i really like them, he told me he has 30ppl seeing the apartments this weekend but luckily he told me that most for some reason are gf and bf, and he would prefer a married couple, so although he has appointments from 10am to evening on sat, he told me to come see it first at 9am to see if i like it so who knows. Also going to see another place in oyster bay tomorrow although the agent is supposed to call me back to let me know what time after she checked her schedule and she hasn't yet. But i am a bit bothered by the fact that the agent wants one months rent as their fee, which ive used a real estate agent in the past and i thought the fee was well deserved bc they found places for me that i liked and did all the work and showed me many places. But i found the listing on craigslist, called the number and she is just going to show me the place, i dont think thats worth the fee of one months rent

Actually, Kings Park is about 25 minutes from Huntington. It's definitely a ways from Huntington. I love Huntington for so many reasons, but it's great because it seems like a young town. Whenever we go to the bars and restaurants, it's always a great mix of people, on the younger end. And it's a main train line into the city so it only takes like an hour and 15 minutes, which is great. It's also the first train stop on the line, so if you're commuting into the city in the morning, it won't be crowded for you. A few months ago Fh and I were actually thinking about getting an apartment (then his parents bought a house for us to live in so we didn't have to do that)...and I think I may have called that guy about the apartment because i remember being confused that it said Kings Park and Huntington on the same line. And I agree...it's a bunch of crap that you have to pay a broker's fee when you find the ad and call to make the appt...ridiculous!! Haha!! I would say to just keep trying to find ones that don't have a broker's fee...but a lot of them do...

Ohhhh ok thank you for letting me know. I guess i'll see how far it is when I drive there saturday morning. I know unfortunately most of the apartments are through a broker, and if they do work then its fine but if i found the place on my own and just answered an ad then why should you get that much money lol. Maybe cut the fee in half since you didnt find me the apartment lol

ETA: on top of that i had spoken to the broker yesterday and said i can go see the apartment in oysterbay on thursday or friday. So he calls me today around 3pm or a lil later and says that he is calling to see when i can come see the apt today. First off, why are you calling me at 3pm to see an apartment today, and 2nd i told him, no i said thursday or friday i can come see the apt and you said you can do thursday. Now he says he wont be in the office on thursday and will have to call me back to let me know when he is available

Re: NWR: Where is a good place to live on LI?

massapequa does happen to be a great town! very quiet and nice and everything is around it too! actually, my brother and sister in law just actually found out that the house they put an offer for over there was accepted so most likely this is going to be their house if everything continues to go the way it is.! :) i happen to like that town!
