When we got married last year, my DH and I were both 51 years old.

We did not do the garter thing or the bouquet toss.

My dad passed away 8 years ago. My DH's dad passed away about 10 years ago. I told my DH that even though I couldn't do a Father/Daughter dance, I thought that he should do a Mother/Son dance. He agreed. I thought it was a very special moment for him and his Mom.

I also walked down the aisle by myself. I walked about 3/4 of the way down and my DH met me...and we walked the rest of the way to the altar together. I decided to do this because no one can replace my Dad.

We had the wedding that we wanted and invited the people that meant the most to us through the years.

Glad we have this thread! I'm having a MOH, BM, RB, and FG. Doing the anniversary dance and will give a bottle of wine or champagne. I'm getting all the pictures done before the cocktail hour. The time is going to fly and it's going to be a great time to mingle with guests.

I'm thinking of not having a BP. I would to walk half way and DH meets me and we walk to rest.

I didn't want a BP either - just my two sisters - both as MOH. Then FH asked if I would include his sister (which I didn't want, but I'm doing for him.) So 2 MOH, 1 BM and 3 GM. They're not wearing the same dressess though - they will be color coordinated (they are 34, 42 and 39 years old) and will all look beautiful!

My mom is walking me down the aisle (she was the one who raised me and so deserves that moment). My father is lighting the unity candle. Yes, I've swapped their roles at the ceremony because my parents divorced and I really didn't have a relationship with my dad while growing up.

Thanks so much - my mom doesn't yet know my plan. She asks who's walking me down the aisle and I avoid it for now. However, just the two of us are going away tomorrow for a long weekend and some mother/daughter bonding and I plan on asking her over brunch on Sunday before we come back home.

I am walking down the aisle with both mom and dad, Jewish tradition, my step-mom and step-dad will walk down together. FH is walking down the aisle with his mom, his dad past 2 years ago. He is not Jewish but I'm glad him mom liked the idea.

I'm having my step-brother's and sister-s and inlaws walk down the aisle and take a seat in the first row.

My sister is my MOH his brother is BM and I made his sister Best Girl since I don't want any bridesmaids.

In a Jewish wedding all parents stay up at the alter under the Chupa so I though it would even out if his sister stayed on his side and represented him and his family..

It's great not being 20..you can do whatever you want...it's our day :)

I will be 39 next year and FH will be 38(woohoo I am a couger) when we walk down the aisle.
I did not want to do the bo-k toss in fear my single friends that are waiting for their ring would cause casualties but FH wants to so I figured what the heck. My 12 year daughter is the MOH and my godfather will walk me down the aisle since my dad is deceased.

I totally agree with you! While I certainly care what everyone thinks, ultimately the decision is mine and FH's. I'm not into all the drama. It makes me so happy I didn't do this in my 20's!

here's a question for you:

I get asked repeatedly by the 'youngsters' that I work with if I'm having a bachlorette party.
I've tried to explain that the reason I'm getting married is so I don't have to go out any more! They don't get it.

I've gone out partying till the wee hours quite enough - I'm over it. So, no bachlorette party for me.

However, every year for the past 5 years my 3 best friends and I meet in NYC, rent a suite at the Waldorf, go to Bliss Spa for the day, have dinner and then brunch the next morning. It's great because we all live in different states now and it's a nice tradition. This year in honor of my getting married, we're staying for 2 nights instead of 1, going to see a show on Friday and then have dinner, spa-ing it up on Saturday followed by another dinner and then bloody mary's and brunch on Sunday.

Anyone else planning a 'bachelorette' night?

We did a spa day......you can do that.
FH went to dinner with the guys & thats it.......nothing crazy.
I am tired of all the partying days.......

I'm having two, beacuse I have two set of friends. I still have friends who I have known for over 20yrs who will party like rock stars and the one who will love a dinner, show and sleep. The rock stars will have their party two months before the wedding and the others three weeks. I didn't want the drama, but i will make them happy. I have people in my own family that still party like it their last day on earth and they are over 65. Bless them.

I'm crashing this board, I'm 30....but I love your spa idea. My 'maids are really pushing this big night on the town and I agree with you- been there, done that. i definitely do NOT want to wear a P**is veil/earrings ect. You're fortunate to not have to deal with this and do it all YOUR way. All the best to all of you!!!

I love the spa idea!! We have decided to do a joint party..either A/C this way the guys can gamble, the girls can dance and then we all go back to our own rooms. This way I'll be the one giving my man a lap dance!!! or Limo and the City.

FH and I originally thought we wanted to do a joint party, but his friends all want a boys night out. He's the last of his friends to get married so I guess all of them feel like they need to put on a big production. The funny thing is is that FH doesn't want it. He said he's either going to AC with the guys for the night or they're going to go fishing.

As long as I continue to get my annual spa weekend with my girls, I'm happy.

It's not that I'm too old to party it's just that I never get to see my 3 best friends so when we're all together, we just like to sit around and talk and drink wine......

9 minutes 9 seconds

we are seeing each other before to get all our BP and group shots done so we can enjoy our CH-

we are having the garter removed but no toss we are going to do the annv dance. and give them to the longest married couple. it should be really cute to see him put it on his wife

we are also not having a traditional HM- we are taking a Familymoon- our 3 year old is going to disney with us over thanksgiving!!

i do have a DOC to help me so i have nothing to worry about. Happy planning to all of you!!
