Rose, I was looking at your album on the NW site. They turn out beautiful. I'm just not sure if I want to do the slippers. I will have a big bag like in The Godfather movie with Connie and then give it to my mom to watch as I dance the night away. I will have those group dance because my family love that and I do have relative who only dance to that. I really want to see who in FH family does dance. If you ask FH he will say his family doesn't dance they just sit around and talk.

I am doing the same thing.
My sil/moh is making me a card bag and I am going to have my mom and dad hold it during the nite. The whole idea of slipper basket.... I just dont know. When ever I go anywhere I usually bring my own comfy shoes to change into. I always thought that to make a good wedding you should have great food and a really good DJ. I didnt know I had to worry about my guests feet.

Great thread girls, I would've loved this last year (40 y.o. bride and now a mommy at 41)!!!!
DH and I had the best day of our lives at our wedding (oops! 2nd best day - after our baby's birthday!!)

I picked the venue of my dreams and we skipped just about everything not required, no DIYs, slippers, garters, etc and had SUCH a great time. A year later we're still getting compliments!

I loved being an older bride--good luck to all of you in the planning phase!!

Thanks Colette, you can still help us. You had a beautiful wedding at the COTH, we went there too, but FH didn't want his mom the travel that far from home. She is 78, oh well. I love your flowers, they just pop and dress was very pretty.

Yeah from LI COTH is probably too far; it worked for us from where we live in Astoria (about 25 minutes door to door!).

I've learn more about myself planning this wedding. In my 20's and early 30s I would have done and looked a place more marble. Now I truly like places that shows high ceilings, wood look and a big dance floor. Is there anyone out there had seen their vision change? I mean even the dress had changed from over the top to something lighter and movable. That's to me means I don't need two to three people helping me go to the bathroom.

For me its changed - and I'm glad to see some of us have the same views on this wedding planning stuff. Although we need to remember, everyone has their own opinion.

I understand that everyone has their own opinion. I was just talking about me. That I have changed. Don't get me wrong, I have gone to friends wedding who taste was different than mine, but I support them no matter what. I just want to know, has anyone other than me had changed their vision. That's what make the world a better place because we are all different. I think I am saying it right. If not than help me. Everyday is about learning. Okay I'm off the box, someone please take the stand.

And to answer your question, if I had know what I know now, I think I would have had a destination wedding. LOL

I think my vision has changed as well. I see what all these girls are doing and I personally think it's such a waste. In the beginning I said I wanted to spend the money on the things that matter the most -- the RH (food) and the Band, everything else is just add ons. Even my invitaitons. I see all these girls doing pocketfolds, it now reminds me of a bat mitzvah I'm back to very traditional.

Also I have learned not to have everyone I know in my bridal party. Of all the bridal parties I have been in, I'm only still friends with two people.

I'm happier to be doing it now.

I learned that quick that LIW brides get very defense, oh well. You know I really wanted the destination, but FH said no. Then I thought, if we went to one of those really adults island for the HM where they give the wedding part free we can have both. Just the look on FH face when I told him that was priceless. He may have forgotten about but I didn't. I am so bad.

I understand, we want three things and everything else can be downside. Food, music and pics (I just don't need a over the top photography, just great pics.) The funny thing is as read more and more about what other brides are having for their wedding the more I keep saying no. I guess I am different.

I agree - but sometimes its soooooo easy to get wrapped up in. For instance - now I really want the pocketfolds, but being that I have so much time, I could very easily change my mind.

I had like them at first and thought to make them. Then I was like why there are more than enough invites to look at and not break the bank.

Another thing was flowers...I'm not having a BP, so it would flowers for both moms, me and two couples who have been married the longest that would take care if you dance or not.

I was just talking to someone at work today and I was telling her the things that I wasn't going to do. I am not wearing a veil, No garter/bouquet toss, no mother/son -father/ daughter dance. She couldn't believe it. Especially about the veil and a blusher. She kept telling me how I need to wear one . I explained that since this is my 2nd marriage that I felt it wasn't necessary. I just wanted a pretty comb or barrette in my hair. She wouldn't let it go. I didn't want to be rude, but I just wanted to tell her to mind her own business. Thank goodness the phone rang and I finally was able to just drop it. The way I feel is that we just want to have a small celebration of our marriage, without all the fanfare. Just like Stacy said our priorities are the food, and music. Everything else are extras.

I am also not having an engagement party either. If people want to give me a gift they will without a party.

I am just thinking..... is anyone using STD's? I had never heard of them until this site. I am just doing it by word of mouth.

I did save the dates because it is a busy weekend..graduations, teachers ending work, sleepaway camp, etc.
