We did not have an engagement party but I did send out std in feb because I have a lot of oot and just wanted to give them plenty of time to make up there mind and I enclosed the hotel card that I had blocked rooms at for them-

not that many of them are comming-

I was going to do STDs and use magnets. but then looking at prices and postage. we decided on Oct 2006 on Sep 2007 and because it wound up being Labor day Sunday we figured we'd better let people know ahead but the timing was good to just include a little note with our Christmas cards.
- - - anything to save a bit in our retirement fund.

as to invitations, I bought 2 boxes (with coupons of course at Michael's) for about $42. I had to write it up and space it properly and find a font I liked but other than that it was really easy. and I was able to add matching design to the rsvp cards. and all the xtra envelopes and cards got used for shower thank yous, tip envelopes etc. saving all the time, I try.

I'm surprised more girls don't go that route since all the supplies are there for you , no shopping at multiple places to accumulate paper, envelopes etc. and I just loved the one I found - - thought it a little different especially since pocetfolds are getting so popular now, this one rather simple.

as to did I change my planning from what I would have done younger, probably somewhat. all those little xtras that girls feel they need to do, I easily said nope. only exception was my lollipop favors. I wasn't going to do any favors but then thought of them to match the invites. so 2 weeks before the wedding I'm doing lollipoops in 2-3 hour shifts cause I found out it took about 3 hrs to make 16 and I needed 80! but I did enjoy it and I think them came out nice. don't know if anyone ate them . . . but I had fun.

thank you. and being just one sided w no inner envelope I was able to mail with just 1 stamp

I maybe saved $20, then that and $$$$$ went on the photos but we were really pleasantly surprised with the proofs. considering what old goats we are w double chins and more we thought maybe 4 pics would be good.
now I have a new hobby of doing slideshows of the proofs and putting on DVD so I can watch when ever. It's better I think than flipping thru an album although we're getting that too. and the house is now called shrine to the newlyweds since I printed so many pics and have them on all desktops.

I did STDs because our wedding was in July I don;t think they're a must unless you are getting married on a holiday or during the summer when people plan vacations.
I didn't have an e-party either. I thought it might be silly because DH and I have been on our own for a while and we also got married 7 mon after we got engaged...I didn't want to be greedy lol.. My sisters gave me a bridal shower though

My mom had ask for it so I'm having an e-party but in will next year around September. This is beacuse my sister and brother both gotten married in three months of their engagement. Since we are getting marry the Saturday after Thanksgiving we will send out save the date. I'm thinking of just a regular kit you buy and add our name and date.

I spoke to FH about the anniversary dance. He loved the idea. I think I am going to give a bottle of champagne. I dont want to part with my flowers.

Then we sat and tried to figure out who that will be there will be married the longest. Couldnt figure it out.

This is great !!!!!! Over 40 and getting married ! I am 41 now and will be 42 when we get married. FH will be 41 !
This is both the second time around for both of us. Between us we have 4 kids !!!!!!!! But life is great. We are paying for our wedding ourselves... the first time around we did not do it the right way, so now we are doing a RH, Church and all that good stuff! We both feel that we deserve it from what we have gone through! As far as the garter toss... NO... we will do the anniversary dance !
My son, who will be 9 by the time we get married will be walking me down the aisle ! That will be a very special part of my day ! A lot of girls are going so out on this site, but we are just doing what we want to do ..... !

Another question for you girls. The groomsman cake.... why? What part of the ceremony do you have that? Why another cake besides the bridal cake? I dont understand the reasoning behind that?

In my family, we would have the groom cake cut and give out as part of the favor. So no one saw the cake. This cake was rum and I cannot tell you how over proof it was, but kid thought it taste nasty. If you were to have a rehearsal dinner, then the people who was there would see it. The groom cake looked pretty at the wedding, but everyone doesn't get a piece, but everyone get a piece of the wedding cake. Not everyone does a groom cake. I hope that help.

I think the reasoning behind it is that the wedding cake is sort of considered to be the 'bride's' cake. The groom's cake is to give the groom something for him too lol At least this is what I heard...some of the pics I saw were sports-related-it should have a theme the groom chooses obviously . Is it necessary? No- I asked my FH if he wanted one and he said, 'What for?!!' lol.

no you really don't need one. I think if a bride wants to do something xtra for the groom and he has a really favorite hobby/sport they do one with that as decoration. or for a completely opposite flavor from the wedding cake like a choc fudge but at the wedding there is so much food already. it seems just another xtra expense you can do without.

speaking of things you never heard of . .

I saw alot about I DO and WE DO letters that girls were making and putting on the cake table.
I said no to myself on that one too.

but you learn alot about what's going on in the wedding world by looking at the threads. . .
decorated aisle runners, monograms, special table numbers. I guess when you look at their room/ceremony they do look nice but you can get caught up in all the extra things and go crazy.

the RH supplied menus and table numbers so I said fine we'll use them, most of the guests knew everyone so I did w/o a program and I don't think anyone missed these things.
