hi- we both just turned 42 this year-- and we are getting married in

10days 18 hours
9 minutes 9 seconds

we are seeing each other before to get all our BP and group shots done so we can enjoy our CH-

we are having the garter removed but no toss we are going to do the annv dance. and give them to the longest married couple. it should be really cute to see him put it on his wife

we are also not having a traditional HM- we are taking a Familymoon- our 3 year old is going to disney with us over thanksgiving!!

i do have a DOC to help me so i have nothing to worry about. Happy planning to all of you!!

here's a question for you:

I get asked repeatedly by the 'youngsters' that I work with if I'm having a bachlorette party.
I've tried to explain that the reason I'm getting married is so I don't have to go out any more! They don't get it.

I've gone out partying till the wee hours quite enough - I'm over it. So, no bachlorette party for me.

However, every year for the past 5 years my 3 best friends and I meet in NYC, rent a suite at the Waldorf, go to Bliss Spa for the day, have dinner and then brunch the next morning. It's great because we all live in different states now and it's a nice tradition. This year in honor of my getting married, we're staying for 2 nights instead of 1, going to see a show on Friday and then have dinner, spa-ing it up on Saturday followed by another dinner and then bloody mary's and brunch on Sunday.

Anyone else planning a 'bachelorette' night?

What I would like to do is have a nite out with our friends together, maybe to go out to eat and to a comedy club. Neither of us are into the bar scene any more so I think I like the comedy club as a group idea.

well, one thing about getting married at my age is that the cost is coming out of our retirement fund

we didn't do the garter or bo-k toss cause there were way too few singles who didn't want to deal with it.

my parents are gone but I didn't want to walk down the aisle alone so I asked my cousin's oldest son who is my oldest and closest male relative to escort me (not give me away) and didn't wear a blusher veil.

also had small bp - - 2 cousins as matrons and his bro as Best man.

and did not go crazy with all the little details the girls seem to like to go crazy over - - RH menus, programs, cry packs, petal cones, bathroom baskets - - hey you're on your own there .
I used one of the fancy suitcase looking boxesa for cards that ac moore sells.
I only DIY'd my invites with kits to print and made rose lollipops for favors since they matched the invites.

if I were younger I think I would have done all those other little things and went crazier than I did but now I just said what the hey, the ceremony is the important thing. andI think it's better at over 40

Rose- you are too funny. FH said the same thing about our retirement account. The only thing extra I may do are programs. I helped my bro and sil with theirs a few years back and they came out really nice and re very easy to do. I have no idea what bathroom baskets or cry packs are for so I am guessing I dont need them. We dont need the choc. fountain or ice sculptures. We are just planning a nice simple, small, elegant reception without those 'extras'

Petal cones are cones that you put rose petals in for your guests to toss as you come down the aisle or outside the church.

I'm not doing all the DIY's projects. I'm a meeting and event planner and I just don't think it necessary. My family is all about the food, drinks, and dancing. As for my FH, his family is food, drinks, and talking. So with that everyone will be happy.

I had no idea either until I started getting really addicted to liweddings A crypack is a pack of tissues that you can have the Maitre d or BA give to guests before your ceremony (usually they are in a cute basket and you get personalized ones of course ). It kind of assumes that people will cry at your wedding...and a bathroom basket is a basklet filled with toiletries that you can have placed on the counter in the ladies bathroom. Some things that girls put in it are: tissues, moisturizer, harispray, hairpins, etc. Some RHs already have them (mine did) and some don't.

IMHO neither one of these is necessary...just a nice touch

I think they felt the same with us but at the church and even the reception though I didn't see any tears I got the feeling of overwhelming happiness for us. kinda nice.

I'm glad someone earlier was able to answer those burning questions about those cry packs. Until LIW I didn't know anyone needed them.

since I get on here so late I think I'll just have to post some other items and let you run with them til I can catch up tomorrow.

so I don't think I mentioned the slipper/flip flop basket last time. It seems like some brides buy assorted sizes of either flip flops or slippers and put them into a basket at the reception in case guests feet get sore. that's another one where I let evryone fend for themselves.
I don't know, maybe because I am older but where ever I go I try to do so prepared - - which is why my pocket book looks more like a small suitcase

and a question - - what are you doing for your envelopes? Being older and settled it felt awkward for me to address this since we didn't need the gifts to get started and I didn't want to flaunt the idea of getting gifts . So I used a smallish decorative box, suitcase shaped that's found in AC Moore. I thought it more subtle yet more practical than the silk pouches.

what are your thoughts on this?

oh and what about the group dances? I see alot of brides seem to despise electric slide, chicken dance etc. now 1/2 my family only get up to dance these and I love the chicken dance so those 2 got air time at my wedding. but the DJ forgot my polkas.

Rose, I was looking at your album on the NW site. They turn out beautiful. I'm just not sure if I want to do the slippers. I will have a big bag like in The Godfather movie with Connie and then give it to my mom to watch as I dance the night away. I will have those group dance because my family love that and I do have relative who only dance to that. I really want to see who in FH family does dance. If you ask FH he will say his family doesn't dance they just sit around and talk.

alot in my family do like to just sit and talk - - mostly the guys but the girls will dance the night away. but the guys who will dance do those line dances. and slow dances. our wedding was such a whirlwind I don't know where the hours went, they flew by but I have the perception that the DJ didn't play too many slow dances. A few more would have been nice especially since there were some older couples who didn't do the fast numbers but might have danced to slow songs. I didn't even think about that when talking to the DJ.

and thank you for looking at my album layout. It took a few tweaks to get it where it is but I think I'm happy with it - - just sorry about all the pics I couldn't include.

I still think they are beautiful. My FH sat still long enough to see and liked them.
