Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

It has been a long time since I've come unto this site but thank you so much for your post wddgcrzy! I actually signed Unique Emporium to do my mandap, reception decor and flower centerpieces. Bharat and his wife are truly wonderful to work with.

So that is taken care of but now i have to find a photo and video person. I like Twin productions for video but I heard that they were pricey. Does anyone know how much they usually charge? And can anyone also recommend a good indian photographer?

thanks for your help, ladies...

A coworker of mine said that her sister worked with Bharat and they were really thrilled w/ him and the work he did for the wedding. You should ask him for photography suggestions. I checked out someone he recommended, I forget his name name now.
But his pictures were beautiful, but his prices were very high.

wddgcrzy is using an indian husband/wife photography team, you should FM her.

Good luck!

Ive heard mixed reviews about Sitar, but more negative then positive though.

Ive heard good things about Antuns/Diwan, I believe they are owned by the same person. I had their food at an eparty recently and it was very good.

Bakhura has excellent food! Never heard any complaints about them.

Exactly, I've head some negatives about sitar too. and so much rides on the caterer when you are just renting an empty space, so i dont want to take chances.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

We used Sitar and they really had their act together. At times I was worried they would not follow through. But that worry was merely because he was my only Indian vendor. (That was a tad worrysome for me.)

He was very competitive with the pricing, gave us a free 3 layer cake (we paid to add a 4th layer, threw in a free cider toast.

The food was real good and we got SO many compliments on our menu.

And the big one for me, we did not run out of food. We had buffet style. We paid for an extra 20 heads just to be safe.

Services Offered

Each event is different and needs to be customized to suit your needs. Below you will find a list of the different services we offer. Our sales representatives can help you to customize the wedding package that is perfect for you.

Package A - $1600) Standard DJ Package

Our Basic DJ Package includes:

A) Disc Jockey for the evening playing music, mixing it up during dance time and making all necessary announcements and introductions. The DJ will make all announcements and introductions from behind the DJ booth.

B) Top of the line 4 speaker sound system including wireless microphone for speeches, announcements, and singing performances.

C) Lighting show to illuminate the dance floor during dance times and performances

Package B - $2250) Standard DJ Package with MC

Our Standard DJ Package with MC the most popular item on our menu. Our Standard DJ Package with MC includes:

A) Disc Jockey for the evening playing music and mixing it up during dance time

B) Top of the line sound system including wireless microphones for speeches, announcements, and singing performances.

C) Basic Lighting show to illuminate the dance floor during dance times and performances

D) Master of Ceremonies. An MC is hired to run and manage your event. He is the glue that holds the party together. MC's serve many purposes including dealing with the caterer, photographer, videographer, performers, and all the vendors, keeping them abreast of the event's itinerary for the whole evening.

One important responsibility of the MC is to keep the crowd motivated throughout the whole event. Our professionally trained MC's keep the crowd entertained throughout the whole evening by playing games with the guests, setting up crowd participation activities, dancing and partying with your guests, and doing whatever it takes to make sure your guests leave absolutely stunned !

We understand that every single event we book is unique and requires an MC who can cater to your crowd. For this reason we have 10 qualified MC's on our team. From Indian MC's who speak in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and English to American MC's who can rock any crowd, we can help you pick out the MC who is perfect for the job. The MC selected will work closely with the hosts of the event to ensure that the special day is nothing less than perfect.

Package C - $2450) Super DJ Package - 10' , 8', or 6' Screen

Includes Standard DJ Package plus a 10', 8', or 6' rear projection screen. The screen is used for many purposes. For larger events we can add on more than one screen. Below is a brief description of the screens functions.

A) Digital Pictures are taken during cocktail hour & during the ceremony. The pictures are then displayed on the screen as guests enter the grand ballroom and as they enjoy dinner.

B) Live Simulcast - Some events require a live simulcast because the party is large and not all guests have good visibility to important events during the evening (introductions, speeches, dances , and performances). The simulcast is 100% live with absolutely no delay. We provide our own digital camera (with zoom function) and tripod.

C) Montage - On many occasions the guests of honor create a PowerPoint presentation , DVD, or video made up of memories from childhood to present day. The presentation can be displayed on our screens with live audio if required. It gives the guests a break from dancing and is very entertaining. Montage presentations last anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes. Montages have become a common form of entertainment at all weddings.

D) Music Videos - When your party gets started and the dance floor is rocking we can take your party to the next level with music videos. While the crowd is dancing we play music videos by artists from Beyonce to Bally Sagoo and everyone in between. This item is very popular for all age groups.

* With this package , an MC can be added on for additional $650

Package D - $2450) Super DJ Package - Intelligent Lighting

Includes Standard DJ Package plus a raised computer driven Intelligent Lighting system to create a stunning atmosphere in any room. During cocktail hour and dinner, the intelligent lights are programmed to move slowly but create wonderful color and design patterns on the dance floor and walls. During dance times the light show will give the dance floor a real nightclub feel.

* With this package , an MC can be added on for additional $650

Package E - $3000) Ultimate DJ Package - 10' , 8', or 6' Screen & Intelligent Lighting

The Ultimate DJ package is the absolute best it gets. The ultimate DJ package includes the Standard DJ Package and BOTH Intelligent lighting & a 10' Screen. This package really makes your event the 'talk of the town'. This package is the combination of packages A , C, and D.

* With this package , an MC can be added on for additional $650

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi everyone,

Just saw a bunch of post tonight and I just wanted to add some of my comments.

I am using Twin Productions for my wedding video. I have to say that they are VERY nice people to work with and if you see their website theyre work is very professional. They do charge more than other videographers, but thats only b/c they specialize in videography. If you want prices, FM me. Here is their website, you can check out some of their clips:
http://www.twinproduction.com/tp/gallery_b_2.html

For my photos I am using Kim's Photo Studio
http://www.kimsphotostudio.com/index_content.html
They are friends of Twin Productions and were a referal from Twin. From the second I met with them, I could tell they knew exactly what I was looking for in my photos. They are a husband and wife team, and put a great effort and time into their pictures. I would recommend them as well.

As you can tell I have a lot of NJ vendors, b/c my wedding is in NJ.

For my DJ, I am having Sharad himself. I have seen him perform at many weddings and I had to book him b/c I knew he would know how to work the type of crowd I will have at my wedding. I dont think anyone who has used Sharad or his team would have any compliants.

Finally, Mogul.....
Well i must say Mogul definately has a lot to offer and they have a great menu. Only concern, they tend to be pricy. For my wedding, I will be talking to them as well as Antun's in LI to see what each can offer me. I have not yet booked my caterer, so still more to come on that.

If anyone needs anymore info..feel free to FM me.

Good luck ladies!!

My FBIL used Bukhara- it wasn't bad but I've had better. No problems with service or running out of food that I heard of tho. They didn't have any American food but I wish that they did- I like Indian food but if you invite non-Indians it's a nice touch. I think that the owner of Tandoor in Rego Park caters and he's very good- He's the only Indian caterer that Fox Hollow will work with (only as add on food) and they like him at Terrace on the Park too.

I think that I've heard of DJ Sharad but I don't know if he was independant or the one mentioned here. If it's the same guy I've heard that he's good.

The prices listed seemed high tho- FH and I have a DJ/MC with basic lighting for a little less than Sharad's basic package with Bravo Sounds and they speciallize in ethnic music. I understand needing an Indian DJ if you are having a traditional Indian wedding and want to be sure that they understand the culture (which I think Bravo does but I only saw them at ethnic Hispanic weddings that I've attended). DJ Sharad was recommended to me by an Indian videographer friend of mine who has worked a lot of weddings with them so I'm sure you can't go wrong!

About 1500 for DJ/MC basic lighting (we have a daytime wedding so we don't need much lighting). It get's up over 2000 if you add a screen (they also have plasmas) and/or live percussuion. I think when you get everything they may even out. I think with screens we were about 2100, I think (we didn't go for it but I think it added 500) It may have been closer to 2200...

Like I said, have only seen or heard about them at Hispanic affairs but they will be doing American, Indian and Hispanic music for my wedding.

DJ Sharad isn't too bad tho- esp if you can talk him down (FH and I talked Bravo down but not very much-maybe 100!)
