Hi Everyone,

My name is Sheethal and I'm getting married on Sept 4, 2006. I think this desi thread is a great idea for girls like me who always need a second opinion.

I was wondering if any of you guys have used DJ Sharad/DJ Unlimited South Asia. My fiance and I were thinking of going with them b/c we've heard so much about them and we have attended 2 weddings in which they were the DJ.

Also we're having difficulty finding a church for our Orthodox Christian ceremony in Nassau County. I've always wanted to get married in a big, beautiful church but if you're not Catholic, they won't let you.

Thanks,
Sheethal

Hi Sheethal,

Thanks!

Suggestion for church:
Arumdaun Presbyterian Church
955 Stewart Avenue
Bethpage, NY 11714
Tel: 516-349-5559
Contact: Pastor Kim
This is the church we used. It was absolutely beautiful and is capable of holding upwards of 500 people. Church was built in last 1.5 years. It is a Korean Church.

Although I am Pentecostal now, my family is Catholic and Orthodox (Malankara) so if you need advice etc. Let me know.

Finally, we used DJ Sharad and I am almost sure the DJ we were assigned was Ashish. My husband took care of all DJ related matters. BUT this much I do know DJ Sharad is much much more expensive than needed to be.

If you need any other advice for clothes, favors, jewelry, etc let me know as well. Be sure to check out my pictures from my wedding last month. It is a couple pages earlier. There are also another thread from Soon2BMrsA (Amy) on the review board with pics from her wedding in June among others. Amy was another mallu bride.

Good luck!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Sheetal,

Here is the # for DJ Sunil - 516.782.9919

He is less expensive than Sharad so definately check him out.

I seem to have misplaced Suhil's contact info, but I will let you know if I find it.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi girls,

I'm also a malu bride looking for a church near Leonard's of Great Neck for an Orthodox wedding. The Catholic churches are giving us problems. Anyone have suggestions?

Also about DJs---has anyone heard anything about DJ Roby Chacko? (hes a malu DJ)

Any places for makeup suggestions?

I'm not from LI so it hard for me to know whats around the area.

Any advice would be helpful!!

Thanks!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i think for makeup, the next time you are in LI, you should go to a mac counter and have a makeup trial with them. i had trials w/3 LI vendors and personally did not like any of my trials. soon2bmrsA used denise from angel eyes and loved her, and riniko used oksana...so you may want to check both of them out.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey girls....just had my wedding last week but have been MIA for awhile. Saw the posts inquiring about DJ Sharad, just wanted to post my experience with him this past weekend. We had Max as our MC and I believe Anil(?) as our DJ. They were PHENOMENAL!!! Honestly, no one was sitting the ENTIRE wedding. We had tons of raves, especially about Max. Both were great with working the crowd and playing hits. They're definitely pricier than most, but well worth it!! They made my wedding.

If anyone has questions...feel free to FM me.

Good luck in planning!

Hey guys, its nice to meet you all. What everyone's date? Mine is August 12 (Hindu ceremony) and August 13 (catholic) and reception. Oh, is anyone using scroll wedding invitations?

I am not using scrolls. But I am buying my invites most likely from an Indian website.
Indian Wedding Card
I ordered samples from them, and the cards are SO pretty plus it is way cheaper and their turnaround is much faster than printers in the US. The only thing is they only have one envelope. So if you are going to do Inside and outside envelopes, I do not suggest them.

The site above carries scrolls.

I'm not indian, but i got my invites through there also. Everyone loved them.

St. Demetrios Orthodox Church in Merrick???

Any of you get married at St. Demetrios Church in Merrick or know someone who has? My fiance and I are both Orthodox and we wanted to get married at St. Demetrios. We are not members of the church so they told us it costs $900 to use the church and another $250 to have someone there (we're getting married next Labor Day). Is this how much it is or am I being taken for a ride?

Can anyone help?????

I didn't get married there. However, we paid roughly that much for our church. I haven't seen St. Demetrios but you may also consider Arumdaun Presbyterian Church where I got married. It was absolutely beautiful.

My Fiancee is part of the Church of South India and are having problems finding a church. His church isn't bad but we both agree that we don't want his pastor to officiate (most of the guests are white/mixed and the pastor's English isn't very good) and we don't feel right asking to use his church with another pastor. Where is Armudaun church and what are their restrictions?
Thanks!
