I can always wrap it and give it to my FSIL at her shower. As you can tell I dont like her very much. I know it is not her taste, but I would still give it to her. I'll give you $10.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

Okay, I've been lurking on this post since it started and LMAO!!! It really adds a lift to my day..so I'd like to share some gift horror stories with you, I am not married yet, and I have been lucky so far with engagment gifts. But here are a few winner gifts that my friends have gotten.

1. a wooden statue of humpty dumpty for a wedding gift!!

2. A set of red hand towels with lace sewn on them complimented by a cook book by Campbell's soup which you mail away for with 6 free labels!

3. A crystal frame that was not only a re-gift but they forgot to take out the Happy Birthday card to themselves!! YOU'RE BUSTED!!!

4. A hand made candle with seashells in it that is lime green and crocked. It was so old the label was yellow and the candle dusty.

5. 10---count them 10--pyrex rectangular dishes..must have been a sale in on the PURPLE ones in some store that she got 10 of them!!

And to add to the funniness of it, I have sat at showers etc..and watched brides open this stuff and I give them credit for not screaming
I'm sure I will get a few doosies myself.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

My FMIL was terribly proud of her gift! I think I smiled and thanked her, but at first I didnt know what the hell it was. FH hates it, he has already been to the thomas kinkade gallery to get rid of it. But they dont sell it, so they didnt take it back. She sent away for it. Ladies, I will pay you to take it. LOL
My FMIL hates registries, why couldnt she just get us something off of our registry.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

Okay, I was going to be good and not do this, but I can't help it anymore. For my shower (back in September) my MIL ignored my registry and presented me with 2 HUGE baskets full of lenox vases, bowls and decorative plates that I have no idea what to do with. They are not my style, don't match my decor and she gave them to me without boxes so I can't even regift them!!

Then, for Christmas, I get - you guessed it - TWO more baskets of this stuff. Again without boxes. Apparently she has a whole collection in her basement from when she used to sell this stuff in the 80's.

At my shower, I was grateful even though I didn't like it. But for Christmas, I was a bit peeved because she knew I didn't want anymore vases and bowls - I had made it perfectly clear that I had NO ROOM. So I felt like she was unloading it on me. I honestly would have preferred a nice $30 sweater as I am not big on getting gifts.

Anyway, here is some of it:

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

I got a Lenox vase with flowers and butterflies all over it as an engagment gift and it went right back to Macys. When I got there I looked at the item and it had a $55.00 price tag on it, but the clerk told me they had to give me the lowest selling price which was $19.99. I took it and ran away from the Lenox!

Im not a big Kennox fan, but am learning to really like it, anyhow, I have that first dish you showed, because it was given to me before my granmother passed away, along with a few other Lennox pieces in which I NOW adore, because it came from someone very special

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

Diane,
I started to like Lenox & collect for the same reason.
My stuff started out with my Grandma.

This wasn't a shower gift, but even worse a wedding gift. My husbands sister(she's 54) & her 3 adult guests actually came to my wedding with this

Yes, that's right-they are $29.99(less in outlet where she got them I'm sure) And not even a real wedding card, just a plain gift card!!!!! Her & her 'boyfriend' both drive brand new Audi's, so don't feel bad for them.
That was the only non-envelope gift we received!!!
And she didn't RSVP until SIX DAYS before the wedding. She must have told Rich's Mom that they were really expensive because MIL kept telling Rich to keep an eye on the gift table & make sure nobody takes 'the crystal from your sister' my MIL is almost 80 & has no clue what a piece of sh*t her daughter. I still haven't written a thank you, I told Rich he can do it-I refuse

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

I say you need to re-gift it right back to her. That would really send her a message. ok, ok I don't mean it. That definitely seem as if she is trying to unload...which is so not right. We got one lenox frame which we have not used yet, and I don't see us using it at all.

I really like the grab bag idea for anything that does not get auctioned off we put them in a bag and let every close their eyes and pull out a surprise. You have to keep whatever it is that you pull

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

I actually like Lenox - I think most of their things are classic and timeless china, but I don't care for all of it. I have a few pieces here and there around my apt.
Some of their newer pieces can be expensive, but the older things are now making their way into the discount stores, so people can buy them for a lot less. Maybe that's why they are always so popular at showers!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

I actually don't think all Lenox is bad. My china is Lenox, but it is very simple and classic with a platinum border. I just don't like anything with cutouts, gold rims or lots of carving.
Here's my china and I wish MIL would have invested in this instead of all that other stuff : )

I like those dishes too, I agree with Jenn, the gold and the carvings don't agree with me!
