Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I was laughing at some of the things that you all got!! Pretty funny!! I did get a few things that I didnt want...for instance, my grandparents gave us a set of china...nothing expensive, but I did not register for china on purpose because I just wanted 16 settings of our everyday dishes. My Aunt, who mind you picks through the garbage...ewww...gave us some plaques that have sayings about marriage....they were all dirty and smelled, but I put on my best smile, said thank you and then told my sister to throw them away!!
I was thinking that maybe we can have a gift exchange with they things that we got that we do not want. Like Elizabeth said....one man's junk is another mans treasure!!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I think that we should all get together, put ALL the unwanted gifts on a table and have a huge swap meet. The rest can be donated to Goodwill.
SURELY there are people that want this stuff, or it wouldn't be manufactured in the first place?!
Another horrible gift I got, not really horrible, but more bordering on the side of thoughtless, and not wedding related:
Christmas: every sibling and cousin in my family received ONE pair of those white ankle socks. EXACTLY the same pair. They were obviously bought in a 12-pack and then split up so we'd get one each.
Why bother?
I was actually offended.
I don't mind so much getting gifts that I hate from people I hardly know. They don't know me, and so, they wouldn't know my tastes either (famous quote from Friends episode 'NEVER buy off the list!!') but it's when people that you think are close to you OBVIOUSLY put so little thought into the process that I get a bit miffed, and I'll be the first to say OF COURSE I'M NOT GRATEFUL!! Why should I be grateful for something that obviously took no more effort than pouring a bowl of cereal in the morning? I refuse to show gratitude for thoughtlessness, even if there's a gift attached and ESPECIALLY if it's a thoughtless gift.
This thread cracks me up.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I like the idea of the big swap meat, everyone would be trying to get rid of all their lenox vases and frames, I would just be looking for the 5*5 frames
Anna no yellow box allowed
Terri & Stef no crucifix
Yabbobay no bible verse knitted thinggy
Deb no crockpot
SUsan no divided up socks
Jen no dirty sweater
Natasha no ugly bird figurine
Misty no old earrings with lint and mismatched backs
Did I miss anyone
These are the rules, if you break em you take home all the bad gifts

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
susan - I hear ya on the lack of thought put into a gift. I once received a sweater - a baby pink & white granny square sweater - that is so NOT me it wasn't even funny. It was VERY much the style of sweater the giver would wear and even said that.

Hey - this might not be a bad idea. Isn't Ron planning something for June? We could do a swap meet sort of thing at the proposed BBQ.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
we did something like a 'gift swap' at my Girl Scout Association meeting, except it was for left over craft items and other supplies. You dropped off your excess at the table, and took what ever you wanted off of the table. Whatever was left, went in the garbage, considering that no one wanted it in the first place, there was no loss!!Just a thought!!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
Stacey, I will put my bid in for the bobble heads. Maybe we can have a silent auction or something. Monies going towards publishing a book on how to buy a thoughtful gift, that will make the receiver greatful

Stacey, that is good, with all these bad gifts that no one wants, the bidding will have to start way lower than that
