Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
Ladies, ladies, ladies - have you never heard the phrase 'One man's junk is another man's treasure' (or in this case 'woman's junk) you can seriously sell some of that stuff on ebay. They'll buy anything there!!! My friend had this really ugly gothic looking lamp she got from her MIL and she sold it. It weighed a ton too and they guy paid the thousands of dollars in shipping too. Plus as some of you said, it's some of the stuff is not horrid, just not your taste.I didn't get a chance to read everyone's posts or I'd probably have a few comments about the items that should be put out of their misery!
I can't even remember my gifts....baby brain I guess...I think most people stuck to the registry or the few off the registry we actually very nice.
Claud, I got those same glasses (not on registry) and I thought they were kind of cute (didn't know they were in or out of style, I actually see them alot in Macy's). However we dont drink so we have no need for them. Maybe I will make chocolate pudding in them. LOL
Wait, I just remembered a gift: from one of DH's family in Ireland. a HUGE wood clock in the the shape of Ireland. It was atrocious, I sold it at a yard sale for practically pennies. One person gave us a baking pan and a towel-not as a shower gift, but as a wedding gift, I thought that was funny. Not towelS, just one towel.
hahaha Anna, the girly outfits for a baby boy: so true!!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
Allure - why do you insist on fighting this? You stated your opinion - no need to shove it down our throats. Respect our right to disagree with you.Who made you the ethics police? You realize that as long as you keep posting, this thread is less likely to die away.
Perhaps all the views are because this is an entertaining thread!
I thought of others: we got a tree bark & cork wine bottle carrier (!). Its actually an artists piece, but where would you carry wine that you need to have it in a bark and cork box w/handle? I did appreciate the thought behind it (we're big wine fans), and it came with some LI wine - I just don't know when to use it.
and the #1 prize goes to:
My aunt went to the Far East (instead of to our wedding which was planned before her trip and she was well aware of). She sent us 4 huge asian black & gold laquered plaques - representing the seasons. There were just awful and could not have been any further away from our style and tastes. We gave them away to Good Will. We thought about putting them on EBay, but just needed to get rid of them.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
We lucked out in the frame dept - we only got 3, one is beautiful and the other two are really nice. Even though one of them weighs about 5 pounds. Some ofthe things you guys received are funny or huh? Shamma, my curiousty is peeked and I am cant wait for you to take the picture:)
Allure, don't flatter yourself that you and your insulting posts are the reasons the read count is high on this thread! The very nature of the thread is why everyone is reading it. You are just causing the drama in the thread, that needs no drama. We understand that you think we are rude and shallow for not loving all of our gifts as you have told us THREE TIMES. We got it, now why don't YOU let the thread die or ignore it, we are trying to have fun sharing stories, and it seems you are just having fun insulting us.

Neva: I was wondering the same thing?Allure do you actually think we are continuing this thread because we didn't like your comments? If that is the case, I feel really sorry for you. Have a wonderful day.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I say let this thread go on forever!!! I love hearing about everyone's terrible gift stories. The funniest thing (that I didnt realize until Claud pointed it out) is that you are not even married yet!! How can you possibly accuse of anything if you havent even had your wedding yet (and the terrible gifts that come with it)? Im sure after this you will never openly admit that you didnt appreciate EVERY one of your gifts but thats okay. We all know the same ungratefulness you accuse us of will surely descend upon your ever condescending self even without you sharing it with us. :D
Ps: I dont think there is anything wrong with discussing diamond quality so I wont hold that diamond thread against you. Its only natural to want quality possessions - just as we all have demonstrated here.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I just wanted to say that I am reading this thread because I think some of the gifts are hysterical. I keep coming back to see what else people have gotten. As far as not responding- since I haven't had my shower yet I haven't gotten any bad gifts yet. YET is the key word.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I was very lucky with my shower gifts - I was surprised at how extremely thoughtful everyone was. One odd thing that I received was a quite ugly comforter set - and it was full size- we have a king sized bed. I'm sure it wasn't cheap, so I don't understand why someone would buy it without knowing the size of the bed. Maybe it was a re-gift too!

LET'S PLAN A GROUP YARD SALE
and sell off all these well intentioned but not-my-style items! What do you ladies think??
or...we will have to perfect the art of re-gifting..BEFORE the box turns yellow!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
What I didn't understand was that we had a couple of guests check our registry for the flatware pattern and bought it somewhere else. I was thrilled people were able to save some money, but they never had the registry updated so we ended up with 18 or 19 place settings. I felt so bad for the people that gave them to us at the shower because there were so many. By the time I got around to the last box, the guest was saying 'don't even bother openning it, you guessed it, it's the silverware.'

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
Just doing my part to keep this thread alive!!I guess I was 'lucky'...most of the gifts we received were off our registry. The few that weren't, we liked.
I don't think anyone here was unappreciative of the spirit in which any gift was given. I think we're all just openly and freely expressing our real feelings-isn't that the point of this forum? No one would ever dream of telling a giver that they don't like their gift...so we come here to share with others who would understand.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
Allure-I'm one of the people who 'lurked' on this thread but I'm not one who sides with you. I am not yet married but i'm sure that I will get some gifts that are not what I registered for and do not really want. Heck, I don't think it's a reason to be ungrateful-I wouldn't even be offended if I gave a gift to someone and they returned it-we're not all mind readers to what a person wants-unless it's off a regisrty. Lighten up a little!

Let this thread live on forever!
Allure - one of the reasons this thread has such a hit number of views, is because WE keep coming back and read and post again - it's not necessarily 1600+ viewers!!

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
phyl, I have been trying to talk my sister into having a big yard sale since she has a yard now. We all have so much stuff to get rid of.Dani - I feel the same way. We all try to find something for people that they will enjoy/appreciate. If I come up short, I wouldn't mind knowing so it can be exchanged for something they could use. Other wise it would be a waste of money. Nor do I mind if something gets passed along to someone else that can use the item. It is after all the receivers so let them get the most joy or best use from it.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
I got alot of things I didn't register for (which was okay - everyone can use alot of towels, etc.) but the strangest gift I got was one of those little hand brooms with the attached pan? It was sky blue with fake gemstones glued to it (a very dear friend of mine gave it to me). She really thought I would love it because I'm a neat freak, but really I was like 'What the ???'. It was all good because I use it and my husband says I look like the cleaning goddess I am with it!
I know you ladies aren't into the crystal/Lennox style just yet, but trust me, in a few years (or when you get your house) you'll wish you held onto that stuff. TRUST ME! I used to be all into Country/Modern looking stuff but now my dining room looks like the Mikasa outlet.
Allure - I don't know you or what your personal feelings are, but let me assure you - in a few years when you join the ranks of the old married farts, you won't even care about things like the quality of your ring, etc. That one piece of jewelry seems very important now, but down the road your priorities will focus around more important issues like a house, kids, etc. I was one that used to stare at my ring until my eyes burned, but now I don't even notice it because there's so much more to the big picture.

This is too funny, I cannot believe that you are still responding. This thread is really not in your honor, but if it makes you feel better, keep reading and responding and keep the fun going.

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?
So what if im not married yet! That doesn't mean i haven't received any gifts, what does that have to do with it?All i am trying to say is that having a wedding seems to bring out the shallowness in some people. It just seems that some of you are very angry that YOU didnt GET what you wanted. So whats the big deal in returning something at least they thought of you in the first place.I guess coming from the hard knock life i will always feel bitter&angry to little petty things like complaining about silly shower gifts
