yeah, definitely be prepared by how people will cheap out. my uncle and his family PLUS his married son and his wife ( who dont even live in the same state) gave us a combined total of $100. expect lots of $100 gifts from families!

oh my.. just to add to your scenario, i'll give you the update as time progresses..

so this uncle and aunty has 2 kids.. both married.. i know the kids, not the uncle and aunty.. so we invited the kids and their spouses.. FH's parents know the uncle and aunty so they invited them..

so that means, we sent out 3 invites.. and the big question is how will they gift us?! i can't wait for this one!

Personally, I think if you're receiving your own invite/don't live with your parents anymore, you should be giving your own gift. jmo, but I'm sure a lot of people won't.

I'm finding that a lot of my family members don't realize how much a wedding actually costs....i have a family members wedding a month before mine and apparently her per guest cost is like $60....and mine is double that because it's a sit down dinner, which I think a lot of indians (maybe just malus) aren't used to? I don't know

SO FH and I were thinking of making CD's as favors......we're making 2 or 3 different kinds, custom making the labels with our picture on it, and putting them in a plastic case that has 2 hearts imprinted on them. We're planning on giving 1 CD w/ gourmet chocolates wrapped in an organza bag to each guest. Do you think this would be considered a cheap favor?

Also, are you guys doing different favors for kids 12 and under? I don't know that they would appreciate a CD. We are doing a little activity book and a small pack of crayons for them, but what else?

that sounds really cute!! I think its very nice of you to actually think about the kids. Haha!

I was thinking about doing that too - I just don't feel like anyone cares about favors anymore - better off donating to a charity instead

I don't think it's cheesy at all. I wish I had done that myself. My sister did it for her wedding.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey guys. I also had that problem with money but then it kinda all evened out in the end. A family of like 4-5 adults only gave like $100. But then you have a single person who gave like $300, so everything just evened out. You are almost always gonna get that because people do not understand how much weddings cost these days, even indian weddings.

With the favors, I had customized shot glasses filled with hershey kisses and candy hearts wrapped in plastic and tied with a customized ribbon. Everybody loved it and it worked out for the kids and adults. The kids got the candy and the adults got the shot glasses (You know indians will be using shot glasses, lol). But some glasses were left empty on the table so some people just took the chocolate. But I don't think people really care what the favor is at all.

As far as donations, I would see how that flies with your family. It's on a preference basis. To be honest, I would not have done that. You can get a lot of different kinds of favors at cheap prices that people will actually love. You can do customized cookies and chocolates for less than $1 a person.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Don't complain about people who give too little. We had someone from a family of 6 give us a check for $100. The check bounced. It cost us $30 at the bank. So the gift was NEGATIVE 30 bucks. Needless to say they never mentioned the bounced check to us nor did we mention it to them.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

question
My mom got the wedding favors from pakistan, which are little pouches with our names on it with wedding date. Pretty simple. I will have tables of ten, and I was planning on putting 10 per table. But I see some of you gave out per family? or per couple? I dont know how i would do that, and plus there wont be so many couples there. More family and single friends.

i think donation favors are great!! i would have done them but i know how the people in my family are and they probably would have talked about me behind my back calling it a cheap gift, when in actuality it sometimes costs more. so, it's totally going to depend on your crowd.

if you're donating to a very well-known place, they actually have you 'buy' scrolls from them that say that a donation has been made in your name, and they're so cute! check out some of the brides' reviews and just search for donations and i'm sure some reviews will come up.

hey, u better hurry!!!! sooooooooooooo close!!!

FH & I wanted to do a donation favor but also wanted to give our guests something to take...and it would have cost too much to do both. So we're probably going to do a donation on our own from some of the wedding $ we get.

But, I do love the idea of a donation favor
