Don't complain about people who give too little. We had someone from a family of 6 give us a check for $100. The check bounced. It cost us $30 at the bank. So the gift was NEGATIVE 30 bucks. Needless to say they never mentioned the bounced check to us nor did we mention it to them.
ohmygoodness!! how embarrassing for the family!...and I'm sure they know it bounced...you can tell from your bank, but they were too embarrassed to bring it up

I think it depends on 1. do you think most people will rsvp by the date, 2. when do you have to tell your rh a final count?
We put our rsvp date as april 19th because we're positive we'll have a lot of people to follow up with and 2. our rh not only wants a final count, but an actual seating chart 2 weeks before (they make the seating cards with the guests names), and i need time to get that done in a non stressful way

I booked Ginni from Habibs. I dont know why but I had my heart set on getting her from the very beginning. I went to a dulhan expo and met with others, but her work stood out the most to me. Im going to make an appt for my trial soon! :)

yeah thats true. Well I mean I dont have so many ppl. We estimated 200, there may be less. And I will find out from my friends myself, and then just have my parents call their friends if they dont reply back by the rsvp date.

My family is not big on favors. Actually i had to explain to my father what the favor was
At first FH and i decide to go with donation favor and when i told my father the idea. He goes WAIT WE ARE FEEDING THEM AND THEN THEY WANT A GIFT TOO
so, i guess i am not doing any favors. do you think my american guest will be dissapointed? Is it bad not to give one?

no i dont think they would be disappointed. Honestly, you can really do whatever you want as favors. They dont have to be too pricey. check out favorideas.com

to be completey honest, i've never been to an event where there were no favors. i agree with ur dad on this one, why do guests get a gift also??
but, unless you're trying to undo years of tradition, i say you should do a favor. it doesnt have to be anything expensive. mine cost like $2 each and when u do it per family/couple, it's not really soooooo bad.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
i dont think favors are common in indian tradition...I don't think I've been to a wedding in india where it was done. but here, it is a tradition....so it depends on which you want to follow. if your whole wedding is more indian traditions, then imo, not having a favor really isn't a big deal.if you want one, even some chocolate wrapped up can be a nice favor...just a little thank you for coming.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
The last wedding I went to - they didn't have any favors - and really no one uses them so I'm thinking its ok even if you end up not giving a favor. My rsvp date was like 5 weeks before the event because same thing I know we're going to have to follow up - and we have 500 people!

My rsvp was 6 wks before my wedding. I am glad i did it that long cause some people sent it right away and then some had to wait for my phone call to sent them.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Yeah, my dad is quite the character! He is very stern on no favors but my mom is making some guyanese sweet and bagging it to hand out to people instead. So, i guess thats what its for now.I was in Jackson Heights today and noticed a flyer that there is a bridal show on Mar. 9 at the sterling. Anyone thinking of going?
Omg my wedding is in 18 days! Things are slowing getting done. I am starting to feel overwhelmed now. My sinus infection and now my wisdom tooth is coming out isn't helping with my moody
