Bella...do you think we have to speak to them in Italian all the time? I think with school and all it might be unrealistic

Whar are you going to try and do?

my grandparents were the only ones who spoke fluent italian all day everyday to one another.. i can speak and understand it very well..

my nonni were the one who watched me when my parents were at work so i think that helped.

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

i went to kindergarten not knowing a word in english - i knew italian only. My parents did a good job by teaching me standard italian - and still talk to me in italian to this day. the only problem I have is knowing the difference b/w italian and sicilian - since they speak a mixture of both - actuallly - they speak italian, sicilian, and english all at once!!

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

Hey everyone.. I just got home and I see this board is rockin!!

Just want to say that I really do feel like the 'odd' one here... I see that most of you girls are fluent in Italian.. I wish I was. I was brought up in an English-speaking household.. My mother is very Americanized & my father is literally off the boat. Italian was never spoken in my house, but definately within the family.. Italian was always spoken at family affairs, parties & things like that.

I never really appreciated the fact that I was Italian until I got older. As I sit here & write, I am so ANGRY that my parents never tought me Italian. Most of my very close friends are fluent-speaking in Italian, and although I am soooo proud to be of Sicilian decent.. I wish SO MUCH that my parents would have pushed me to learn the language & get me more involved in my culture. It is so important for children to know their roots & background. I really feel like it sets a solid foundation for their childhood-its something that can be tought & passed down from generation to generation.

I can honestly say that although I am more 'Americanized' then Italian, I really am proud to be italian. I love everything about our culture.. the food.. the people.. the beautiful country that it is.. oh & yes, the MUSIC!!!

I'm so happy that you girls want to teach your children Italian. I really feel that as time goes by... culture is slowly diminishing out of society. Everyone has become so wrapped up in being American and following American traditions & ideas that people are forgetting their roots. And thats sad.

Wow.. this is long..

Ok you guys have me rolling. Between tht pickled eggplant, Panteoone, Padrr Pio and the snake ring. I think it's important to mention the ever-so-important tradition of making tomato sauce from 15 bushles of tomoatos in the middle of August.

I;m still in search of a good Italian-American band. For any of you that have any price info on calpes, voices of mirage please FM me.

PS. please don't forget about the white, holed knee socks that we wore as kids. Please tell me that I'm not the only one!

YES! the 15 bushels of sauce - done every summer in the yard - and everyone has a key role. They start at 7am in the morning - and dont finish until 8pm at night. The best is the neighbors asking what we are doing - and thinking that we are CRAZZZY for making sauce for the whole year!!!

just a sidenote - Raisin - i booked the band Oasis from NJ in case your interested - feel free to FM me for info

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

speaking of Sicilian tradition and food - does anyone's parents/relatives make infigulata. Its soooo goood. When my mom makes pizza, she makes this 'infigulata' ( I call them roses - and they are my all time FAVORITE FAVORITE homemade recipes). All it is is dough with garlic, grated cheese, chunks of parmigiana cheese, oil, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil .. and then she wraps it all up, and cuts it and bakes it in the oven. The dough blooms in the overn - and it looks like a rose. It is the best thing EVERRR! Im just curious if anyone other sicilians have ever had this ...
