Just wondering, how many brides are having the 1 & 1/2 hour Cocktail hour..I'm starting to stress out about photos...with FH's family and parents...I don't think 1 hour will do it and would really like the extra 1/2 to enjoy some of the food and mingle. Can anyone advise me about this?

My CH is going to run just an hour. I am going to take some pics without my FI before the ceremony so that during the CH I just have to take pics with him. I've heard of other brides doing this and it worked out well for them.

Hi I had an hour and half cocktail b/c I knew the pictures would take so long b/c our families are huge and we wanted extended family pictures so we needed the extra 1/2 hour, it worked out great! but I still didnt get to eat at the cocktail time!!!!

repost from the knot!! eecckkkk.....
Ladies,A bride on the knot.com had her wedding at Westbury Manor and her gifts were sent to another brides room and there was this huge mix up!!
I'm going to cut & paste her post:
(tigerlilY is the user name)
I'm sure some of you read my post last week about my Westbury Manor wedding/reception - probably the worst thing that happened was that somehow, some of our gifts got misdirected to the other couple that had their wedding there at the same time. Supposedly, they returned the gifts as soon as they realized they were not for them, and WM held on to them for us.
My parents went to pick up our stuff last week (I don't live in the area) and then mailed it to me. It was a box and 5 cards - and I should mention that 3 of them were OPENED (one didn't even have the envelope anymore!). Granted, the opened cards did contain checks, but you can see why this still makes me feel uneasy. What's worse, the staff did not offer any explanation to my parents about why the cards were opened. (They didn't ask, I guess b/c they thought it was possible that DH and I had opened the cards during our reception.).
I just don't know if I'll ever feel certain that we received all the gifts that were brought for us that day. I just received an e-mail from Macy's about 3 items that had been purchased from the registry which we didn't receive yet - turns out that one of the gifts was purchased by one of the couples whose card was misdirected! So, I'm pretty sure they must have brought that gift to the reception - and we didn't get it!!!
I am just SO angry and frustrated about this mixup - why should DH and I have to spend the first few weeks of our marriage investigating what may be a crime? Will I ever know whether the other couple got and kept any of our gifts - who knows if they got more envelopes, and kept them b/c they had cash instead of checks? Now we could end up writing thank you cards that don't specifically acknowledge gifts (b/c they were lost/ stolen). :(
I think this incident could be a huge motivator for someone to choose to have their wedding at a hall that does ONE wedding at a time. I don't know if there are many such places on LI...

EKKKK!!!!!! I hope this is not true!I must say, this does sound a little strange though. Why and how would people be 'mis directed' with their gifts?
Wouldn't you as a guest of a wedding make sure that you personally hand the bride and groom their gift?
Well, hopefully this does NOT happen to any of us. Maybe we can forewarn our guests - make sure the cards go straight to us

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)
yes, something about that story just does not sound right..i always personally hand my envelope to the bride and groom or a family member that is collecting them...it seems odd to me that guests would leave gifts with a staff member or someone they were uncertain about????

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)
I also wonder why she believed she would not run into another bride on her day. There are 3 rooms to look at...which for me meant the possibility of another event going on at the same time.I KNOW this is not a place that has one event at a time...I figured that out just be walking around. Hey, I could get lucky and be the only one but, I would definitely wish a bride all the best if I ran into her.

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)
that story was a bit scary the thought of others getting your gifts, but I just don't understand how it is possible. Every wedding I have been to I have either handed the card to the bride or groom or just put it in the birdcage/box. How could there be a mix up unless you went into the wrong room and put the gift in the wrong birdcage/box?

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)
I don't think her story is untrue. I believe that there was just a huge mix-up with directing the guests. I have heard from a few past WM brides that their guests were misdirected to other weddings. I agree that the envelope situation sounds a little weird ( I always gave my envelope directly to the bride) but as far as the gifts go--sometimes people bring large gifts and like to just drop them off at the gift table. Remember, the Manor Room holds big weddings and so does the Garden Room, so there are a lot of people there at the same time, and the place is not THAT big. I think the staff at WM should take greater care in directing the guests to the appropriate location so that mix-ups like that do not happen again. Let's take this as an incentive to be cautious in the future...thats all.

Hey...just wanted to say hi...we just booked WM for May 7, 2006 at 7pm.
We are in the Garden Room/Library and we are very excited. The place seems to suit our personality. That certainly was a strange story about the gifts, but to me it seems like it was more of the fault of the persons giving the gifts.
