When I was looking at WM they told me the Garden Room was like 120/125 MAX.Since we knew we'd be border line - we had to go to the Manor Room.

When I spoke with some bands they informed me that with their setup in the Garden Room...(utilizing ever table they could for a large crowd) some guests were sitting right next to the speakers.

being a guest in the garden room just last month I can confirm max comfortably is 125 and thats pushing it and with the band forget it, those table were right up against them and squashed. and as for the chocolate fountain there is no way I can see that fitting in that room without it being complete havick- I would ask them to set it up in the conservatory room - or right outside the room - it is huge.

Good Advice....it can get cramped in there

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)

We were just there to finalize our menus and the statues are cherubs holding planters of flowers. I am not a big fan of cherubs, so I asked them to remove them for my ceremony (they also block the view) and they told me they were cemented down.

I guess everyone has different tastes....but I am not that happy about the cherubs.

Westbury Manor - if you're reading this - can we consider changing the little naked men to nice pillars again by October??????

this is making me so uncomfortable....so if you are stuck between 125 and 150 (to 'upgrade' to the Manor Room) your guests will be cramped together!!!

I mean, does it matter if you get a band or a dj...I guess an orchestra would make a difference.

Did the cramped weddings/events have bands or dj's?

This is freaking me out! I was just there last week, and they told me they could fit up to 160!! We are having 150!! When we booked, I was told 150 was 'ok... no problem.' Now he isn't even there, and we are getting a lot of ACCEPT responses! I dont want a crowded room! Nobody likes to eat on top of the person next to them! UGH! There is nothing I can do at this point...
Sorry, I had to vent....

Awww, don't worry!!!! Honestly, why would the WM tell us these numbers if they couldn't fit in there, right?! Of course, the more people, the tighter it will be - however, I would not stress about it. It will be absolutely fine. And remember, everyone's perception of 'crowded' is different too.

are you having any children...I am thinking of putting the children (i have about 5 or 6 from the BP) in a section of the library that I will have arranged and decorated just for them. this way it should alleviate SOME of the congestion in the room.

good luck and PLEASE let us know how it all turns out. I would definitely call them and voice your concerns. Perhaps they have some ideas. I certainly will be calling them as soon as I get a better handle on my guest list.

That is a great idea, and I dont know why they are telling people that too about the numbers the room can hold. Everyone seems to have been told different numbers and most of them are no longer with WM, most were transferred to other locations. Remember its also a business so sometimes they will say what they need to make the sale even if it comes close to being over than what the room may be able to hold comfortably to them!. I would def call my BM and or go in yourself- go to check it 'out' like they had 'their guest' walking right through my room when we were taking photo's which I thought was RUDE and thoughtless on thier behalf but once again even though they did a great job for 'my ' wedding its just a business to them-- nothing personal. I think that is the best way you can see for yourself the 'crowd'- a crowd is a crowd- I dont know how you can mistaken that. at the inauguration dinner I just went to in the garden room there were 10 to a table with 150 guests and a 4 piece band which would be the same size of a DJ set up. and if your DJ is using a high tech lighting system its bigger. at a 10 person table we were cramped, I couldnt even move my chair back to get up- the next table was right on top of us. Oh and we sat by the windows in the back of the room which is side by side of the bride and grooms sweet heart table and if you are having 2 side by side tables for the cake and gifts where in the world is that gonna go? Being a recent bride of WM I checked every detail out sitting there and looked around as if it was my wedding and how things would set be set up and I just shook my head. Plus there is NO private moments at your sweetheart table like in the manor room- in the manor room there is a nice distance between the tables but not in the garden room. My advice would be go on a sunday afternoon or sat evening- go for dinner and peek in.

PAST BRIDES:

Did you greet guest individually at their tables (I am trying to avoid this so I can enjoy the party) or did you greet them at the CH? Or- did you do like in days past and have them greet YOU at your table?

I think I might do the CH mingle...

This is a pic I took the next day after a wedding...before they removed all tables to clean this is the way the dias, gift and those two tables are set up... It doesn't look that bad, but there is also no one in the room.
I personally am counting on a small wedding because I was told more than 130 would be cramped...not by the WM, but by vendors who have worked weddings there. If you're planning on even being close to 150...totally see if the Manor room is available for that day. I know it may be impossible, but it sounds like a lot of you are worried (as I would be too). girlygrl33 had a GREAT idea about stopping in for dinner some Sat. or Sunday to get a good view of the room. I think I'll do that this month...I'll report back to you too.

I mingled at the ch and was able to greet over 100 guests that way (I had 265 at the wedding). The others, I went around during the actual wedding while they ate. going around during the ch was the best thing ever since I was actually able to dance and enjoy myself a bit at the reception. Plus, I loved seeing the ch setup and watching everyone eat, mingle and enjoy the food.

Re: Westbury Manor-Brides (We decided to make this our official thread)

Ladies,

I have been reading this thread for some time, and I cannot say enough how much it has helped me in narrowing down the hall search to two halls: Westbury Manor and Bella Verde. So first of all, thank you all!

We're getting married September 29, 2006, and are considering a small reception 75-100 people. I know Westbury Manor has a room called the Hill Room which accomodates that amount. Before we go to check it out, I was wondering if any of you past brides happen to have some photos of the Hill Room, and those of you that have seen it think it would fit 75-100 guests comfortably?

Thanks!

Just wanted to say that my cousin got married at Westbury Manor a few years ago and it was beautiful and memorable. :) Outdoor cocktail hour was great.

I'm not sure if the upstairs room is named the Hill Room. We looked at that room first. The BM told us it was going to be renovated, but we didn't have enough vision to book it. Perhaps you should visit. We first visited WM in Jan 2005. Also, initially we were hoping to have btwn 50-75 people - which would have been fine in the room. The BM said 100 was too tight.

Thank you all for replying to my concerns, I am going to take that idea and go check it out for myself... When we booked, it was the last available day for the summer at WM so I really am stuck in the garden room... don't get me wrong I love the room, but I just wish it was larger
