Im sorry but now Im venting-Be Mad I dont Care But the USA needs to make some restrictions on foreigners coming to this country

I review medical claims everyday for our members. And I was just told by our UR dept that one member who is a foreigner only in this country a short while was admitted to the hosp in Quarantine becuase he has something that was picked up in his country.

We see several of these cases a month

Its not fair. Call it inhumane call it what you want but laws need to be tightened and people need to be screened more. Immigrants should be tested for tb, baterical disease before they leave the airport. They need to be monitored

Im so freaking skeeved out because I serviced that shop only a month ago and came into contact with this man.

Im not paranoid but many of these diseases are airborne

Our ancestors all came here and broke their backs to have the American dream. I have no problem with people who come here and work hard and bring something of their culture to the table but the slackers should GET OUT!

I agree Wacky Jenn and MLP,

Alina, of course they arent doing it purposly, but they should be checked and re-checked by American Dr's to make sure they arent carrying diseases. I can remember my Great Grandmother telling me that she was quarantined for 3 weeks when she arrived from Sicily with Pneumonia and that was back in 1930's.

To respond to the above; If I were in another country on vacation and I needed medical assistance I would not mind if they checked me or took blood to insure their own safety and security.

NO WAY would I want this...who knows if they clean their needles...or why they are taking my blood...no thank you...my fluids are my fluids...and countries will never do this b/c it will deter tourism...and that is a big moneymaker...

When I was in China...I actually purchased extra medical insurance that would fly me to Hong Kong, Japan or another nation where they have top notch medical services...you just never know what goes on in some places...

When we left Russia we had to be checked for TB, VD and mental illnesses before coming here! I guess they don't do it anymore!

Oh, and about getting sick in one of the under-developed countries: that has always been a very big fear of mine! God knows what goes on in those hospitals!

teachertime, I thought that's what the foreigners were doing (i.e. being admitted into the hospital b/c they're sick). Then I don't understand what the arguement that you and wacky are trying to make?

Anya, but the US doesn't really do any health checking for visitors... When we were leaving, it was on a permanent visa thing, vs. a short term stay.

Oh, I see! well, it would probably be a good idea to check someone coming in from a place like China, since someone already brought this country up!

BUT, the airports are a mad house as it is with all the cheking going on there! I don't think they have the means to do medicals checks as well! Althought it would have been a good idea!

I thought that you were supposed to be checked out if you came from a country that had a high incidence of certain diseases?

It happens vice versa too. And there are other countries that have much much higher tax rates than we do to support foreigners/refugees/immigrants in circumstances like this, and other situations too.

But as for foreigners - if we screened every foreigner for every possible disease our taxes would be sky high. I think there is some sort of screening process but I guess there are cracks in the system.

I say we bring back Ellis Island!!

My grandmother came to this country from Germany in 1922. They put everyone through the ringer back then. One of her friends got refused and put back on the boat because she had a STY in her eye!!

While that's a little too extreme, I still think we need to create some type of formal 'admission' program. Especially in this new age of Terror.

I so agree.

Im really pissed that these other laws were forigners are getting a free ride too, come to think of it. The whole issue really rubs me the wrong way. Living in Texas and seeing the crap I have. Even my parents who now live in Iowa teach english to foreigners but still. If you don't like the place shut up and go home. In Texas the saying is 'Stop B*tching about our weather our people and our customs, if you don't like it, Delta is waiting'.

My VERY close friend's father died suddenly of some odd blood disease he caught from working overseas I felt so bad. He couldnt interact with his family. They watched him die slowly.

There should be some screening! SOMETHING. The only reason they caught his was because he felt odd and was military.

In order to get a permanent visa, you need a medical examination. however i was unable to find any information regarding temporary visas and medical examinations. perhaps this should be a requirement as well?

The original post may have seemed harsh, but I just dont understand why immigration doesnt require a full medical evaluation. (whether short stay, permanent) Ellis Island was a bit harsh but if they reformed the practice I think it would work.

Some of these countries are so unhealthy are disease ridden, I think its only fair to the citizens of this country. That was my point.

In regards to Alina's comment, no offense but I would never go to a 3rd world country call it ignorant. And if I did plan to go to a country that was I would make sure to receive all my immunizations before I left.
