So I got a quote from tripology for 5 nights at Moorea Pearl and 3 nights at Pearl in Bora Bora and all the other stuff like taxes, fees, flight from LA, bla bla...........for 3300 pp!

Kerri, what do you think? Too good to be true or not good enough?

That's a really great price. Does it include Breakfast or staying in an overwater bungalow?

It included the overwater bungalow and a regular garden room in Moorea, not the one with the personal pool. I'm shopping around but def going through a travel agent because there are a lot of catches here and there

Your best bet for a trip like this is using a travel agent... so great call there!!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

I found Moorea to be very unimpressive. Belvedere Lookout , Tiki Village, and everything else that was in the tourist guides were all disappointing. I can't even remember the food and restaurants. After Tahiti and Moorea, I was seriously regretting going to the French Polynesia. The beaches weren't that great and I was thinking that my vacations to the Caribbean and Hawaii were MUCH better. However, I was blown away when I got to Bora Bora. If anything, spending time in the worse islands made me appreciate Bora Bora that much more.

My friend went to Bora Bora and then to Le Tahaa afterwards and said it was disappointing to leave Bora Bora. Personally, if I could do it all over again, I'd probably stay at more than one resort IN Bora Bora to have a different experience vs going to different islands. JMO.

Sorry to crash here I am an '06 bride and come back to the Honeymoon board every so often to see what lucky ladies are heading to FP.
I couldn't agree more with the above poster. If I were to do it all over again I'd spend my entire honeymoon in Bora Bora. We did Moorea Pearl, Bora Bora Thalasso, and Le Taha'a. Agree that Le Taha'a was a big let down after Bora Bora.
Moorea water was not even that beautiful blue. Bora Bora and Tahaa have that gorgeous water. Bora Bora is just amazing. Go see the new Vince Vaughn movie Couples Retreat...it was filmed in Bora Bora (St. Regis they shut down the hotel for 4 weeks so they could film there). It will put you so in the mood for your honeymoon. For me it was depressing b/c now I want to go back.

One of the reasons most people have to add Moorea to their trip is b/c of cost. The Moorea hotels are much cheaper than Bora Bora hotels. So as much as I'd like to have spent my full 2 weeks on Bora Bora it would not have been possible $-wise.

Going to post some of my favorite pics from my HM...hope they post. I'll also bump a really old thread from my time on here that is insanely long but chock full of really great info on FP. Skim thru it when you have time.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Just a few random thoughts after skimming thru this post...

1 - do NOT miss dinner at Villa Mahana on Bora Bora. Email way in advance to reserve top table. There is nothing like it. Best meal I have ever had in my life. Very $$$$ though but worth every penny!

2 - Four Seasons and St. Regis both look like absolutely amazing hotels. But I have heard that they charge you to get back and forth to the main island. Not positive if it's true it's just what I have read online. We stayed at Intercontinental Thalasso and it was brand new at the time...only opened in May 2006 so it's still new. It's absolutely gorgeous and they provide free shuttles back and forth to the main island all day and night. We loved going over to the main island for dinner every night. We spent 6 nights on Bora Bora I would have been so upset if we had to pay $ to get over there every single time. So just something to think about and look into if you are looking to stay at either St. Regis or Four Seasons. To me that would not be worth it and I wouldn't stay there just b/c of that.

3 - We did most of our excursions on Moorea and were so happy we did. Only thing we saved for Bora Bora was the shark feeding and snorkeling trip (all in one tour). Water is more beautiful in Bora Bora so save snorkeling for there. You will love your overwater bungalow in Bora Bora so much you will NEVER want to leave it. The water off your deck is so blue and so gorgeous and you'll remember how much $ you're spending per night to stay in that room...you will never want to leave. Trust me on this one. We were so happy to have done all our excursions prior on Moorea. We'd just leave our OWB in BB for breakfast...order in room service lunch and just hang on our deck all day. Occasionally we'd head to the pool for a change but couldn't wait to get back to our room.

Feel free to FM me with any questions. It is the trip of a lifetime enjoy every second of it and take as many pictures as possible! We got so many of our pictures blown up and put onto canvas that is our artwork in our home...no place is more beautiful on earth I am so happy you all get to go but so jealous at the same time....I still dream every day of going back!

Enjoy ladies!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Can anyone give any tips on eating while in Bora Bora/Tahiti? I keep hearing how insanely expensive it is even just to grab a snack. For people who've been there already, what did you do? I heard it's $16 for a bottle of water!

Should we just plan to pack an extra luggage bag with protein bars and water? I could see myself not eating just out of principle LOL. Nothing we've looked at seems to be all inclusive. Anyone have any insight on this?

Re: Bora Bora Thread

OH GOSH, it's not $16 for a bottle of water! At least not when we were there! Maybe $6-7 at the resorts though. You can buy water cheaper at the local markets. We brought along energy bars, beef jerky, nuts, chips etc and bought hard liquor at the duty free and a bottle of wine from home. Cocktails are really expensive though! So if you do like we did you can buy mixers at the store when you get there. Drinks were around $15 and blended drinks were around $20. We also brought a small collapsible cooler to put stuff in and keep it cold with ice. Beer and wine were a surprise, not that expensive (kind of like an imported beer price here in the USA, and wine was french mostly, but not that bad cause we don't drink the expensive stuff. The french bread was incredible and the baked goods! We went to the bakeries and store for cheese too.
cheers!

IF possible, do NOT stay on the main island. While it may be more convenient...you wont have the view of Mount Otemaru and it's BEAUTIFUL.

we just stayed at the Bora Bora Pearl in overwater bungalow 19. It was DIVINE!!! I will post my review this weekend. You'll notice that all the luxury resorts (Four Seasons, St. Regis) are NOT on the main island for this reason. You wont regret it.

SO excited for you! I miss it so much, the most perfect place on earth!

Pay for the breakfast plan (the Bora Bora pearl) had this. Make sandwhiches (we did bacon, cheese on fresh baguettes) and took dijonaise from the cafeteria...we would have them wrap these along with fruits for us at breakfast and have them at lunch or a few times dinner. It was great an saved tons! YES bring some bars and a couple of bottles- either booze or wine. IT will save you lots of money.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

That is a good question. I don't know anything about the Bora Bora Pearl but it looks like people here have used it or are going to. FH and I are looking at the Four Seasons vs St Regis right now. He had been researching the Intercontinental and said it was a good name but I think it's now out of the running. Sorry I'm not much help, hopefully someone else knows more.

We are doing moorea and bora bora. we really wanted to stay at the pearl but because of our flight and hotel issues, we have two options:

3 nights moorea
3 nights intercontinental thalasso
5 nights pearl bora bora

or

4 nights moorea
4 nights le moana
3 nights thalasso

this is our problem... we are trying to get the free night at the intercontinental on bora bora. and if we wanted to stay at the pearl- we would have to switch our order around, which is shown above. so this would mean that we woud be staying at the amazing thalasso before the pearl (which our TA strongly advises against doing)
so if we switch to the le moana, then its in the correct order.

and FH thinks it would be a good idea to stay on the main land because it would be closer to the shops and restaurants. and then we also get the free breakfast. im just partial to the pearl because its where i wanted to stay. but i dont care, im just happy to be going!
so we would still get the whole motu experience at the thalasso.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Ok, now I have a similar question . . . We're down to the Four Seasons Bora Bora vs St Regis. Does anyone know which is better? After seeing Couples Retreat I really want that hot tub on the deck on the overwater bungalo and it doesn't look like the Four Seasons has it.

Any pros/cons to either? TIA!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

I was just searching for a Bora Bora thread b/c my husband and I convinced a cousin of ours to go!!!

Ladies, when I was deciding on the honeymoon, this is the thread that definitely helped me decide!!!!

http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic-257671-57.html

We had suchhhhh a blast!!!!! You guys HAVE to eat at La Villa Mahana in Bora Bora...the LIweddings post above should have the guys private contact info....you must request the private table..you have the entire area to yourselves.

loveddddd moorrea much more than bora bora b/c that is where we did all of our adventurous stuff (swimming with sharks, stingrays, ATV tour, safari, etc.)

I totallyyy recommend French Polynesia for your honeymoon!!!!!!

Original FP thread!!!!!
