Re: Bora Bora Thread

I'm staying at the Four Seasons. My TA highly recommended this one the most, and the St. Regis was much more expensive for a view that wasn't as nice.

I was just searching for a Bora Bora thread b/c my husband and I convinced a cousin of ours to go!!!

Ladies, when I was deciding on the honeymoon, this is the thread that definitely helped me decide!!!!

We had suchhhhh a blast!!!!! You guys HAVE to eat at La Villa Mahana in Bora Bora...the LIweddings post above should have the guys private contact info....you must request the private table..you have the entire area to yourselves.

loveddddd moorrea much more than bora bora b/c that is where we did all of our adventurous stuff (swimming with sharks, stingrays, ATV tour, safari, etc.)

I totallyyy recommend French Polynesia for your honeymoon!!!!!!

Original FP thread!!!!!

Hi guys! i have a question~

which hotel would you rather stay at?

the Bora Bora Pearl

or the Intercontinental Le Moana (Bora Bora) (on the main land)

????????????????????

Bora Bora Pearl

IF possible, do NOT stay on the main island. While it may be more convenient...you wont have the view of Mount Otemaru and it's BEAUTIFUL.

we just stayed at the Bora Bora Pearl in overwater bungalow 19. It was DIVINE!!! I will post my review this weekend. You'll notice that all the luxury resorts (Four Seasons, St. Regis) are NOT on the main island for this reason. You wont regret it.

SO excited for you! I miss it so much, the most perfect place on earth!

We are doing moorea and bora bora. we really wanted to stay at the pearl but because of our flight and hotel issues, we have two options:

3 nights moorea
3 nights intercontinental thalasso
5 nights pearl bora bora

or

4 nights moorea
4 nights le moana
3 nights thalasso

this is our problem... we are trying to get the free night at the intercontinental on bora bora. and if we wanted to stay at the pearl- we would have to switch our order around, which is shown above. so this would mean that we woud be staying at the amazing thalasso before the pearl (which our TA strongly advises against doing)
so if we switch to the le moana, then its in the correct order.

and FH thinks it would be a good idea to stay on the main land because it would be closer to the shops and restaurants. and then we also get the free breakfast. im just partial to the pearl because its where i wanted to stay. but i dont care, im just happy to be going!
so we would still get the whole motu experience at the thalasso.

any reason why you are doing 2 different hotels on Bora Bora?

ETA: PS - you will LOVE the Bora Bora Thalasso...amazing hotel!

yea, i felt bora bora was very commercial...they had fake coral underneath the owb's whereas Moorea had all natural coral all over. don't get me wrong, both places are breathtaking..but if i ever went back, i would skip bora bora and visit a more quaint island there.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Hi Girls,

Just hitched onto the Tahiti/Bora Bora bandwagon.

Do you know what I'll expect to pay if we go end of July 2010? I know it's high season, are there any deals if you stay at a certain resort a certain number of nights they'll comp a day or two or provide free breakfast or dinner.

Airfare is the best deal $3,000 total?

What is a reasonable timeframe to stay there?
Is 7 nights enough or more?

HELP!!!

Is this even affordable???

We want to stay part of our honeymoon in an OWB but not the entire stay...

Thanks :)

The best thing I can say is don't settle. Go back and forth and back and forth, and back and forth again with different travel agents. And eventually you'll find the best deal. By doing this I was able to get airfare roundtrip to Bora Bora from LAX, 1 night in Tahiti, and 6 nights in an OWB w/ Breakfast at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui (I picked this hotel because it is supposed to have the best snorkeling) for $6100 for me and FH.

It took a lot of work to get a price we felt comfortable with. Start with Tripology (you can request your trip and three travel agents will come back with prices). Also, check out Air Tahiti's vacation site, Islands of the Sun, and Chloe from Tahitimoon or Gotahiti. Good luck!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Ahh I'm terribly sorry guys!! I've had A LOT going on lately!!!

Sooo trip was fab!! This is the most beautiful place you can ever go to!! There's no place like it that I've ever been to!! The water is soo pretty and clear and just amazing!! the fish are so exotic and tropical!! You can literally see into the ocean that's 30 feet deep and see the ground and all the fish and coral!! AMAZING!!

The Polynesian people are super friendly and very nice!! Please make an effort to explore the islands. Either rent a car or rent a boat!! you can rent a boat without a license…you get a little boat with a little motor!! AWESOME experience! Moorea is a little larger... we rented a car and drove all around the island. In Bora Bora we rented the boat and boated around the whole island!!
Don't be afraid to talk to some locals.... they are very friendly and want to share their lifestyle with you. This isn't a place like, lets say Jamaica where people say it's not safe to really go out (I've been to Jamaica and loved it though). So please explore!!

The food is phenomenal. However I DO NOT recommend eating at the hotels. The food is VERY EXPENSIVE and SO NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!! Trust me!! We ate at our hotel one night... in Moorea - Pearl resort and spa and they had some show going on. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER!! it was awful!! The food was horrible... it was a buffet filled with bugs.... and the dancers were mediocre. It was over $300 usd too!! Skip it!! If you want a good show and real authentic food go to Tiki Village Show In Moorea! Your hotels can set up all excursions for you.
We rented jet ski’s in Moorea too. There are lots of water activities on both Moorea and Bora Bora. I don't know why people say there isn't much to do on Bora Bora... in comparison to Moorea... it's about the same. Excursions during the day and out to dinner at night.
In Bora Bora I recommend doing the Lagoonarium to swim with sharks and sting rags and see all sorts of tropical fish. You even go to a coral garden!! It was GREAT!!! We didn't get to do too many excursions in Bora Bora because it rained a lot... which is not typical. Even for the wet season... we had a lot of rain when we went. But it was still beautiful!!

On Bora Bora… go to Kaina Hut and Bloody Marys. Bloody Mary’s has the fun atmosphere (caution not the most comfortable of chairs… but fun and interesting). And Kaina Hut is just the BEST food there!! AMAZING!!! Also St James is a good place for food (we did dinner but it’s more of a lunch spot… dinner was still fab… but it looks like a GREAT lunch spot too… there’s a deck and little beachy area!!).

Moorea we went to Alfredo’s (very good), Rudy’s Steakhouse (excellent), ahh I can’t remember the other names. I have them written down someplace… so I will come back to it.

Hotel:
Moorea Pearl – was very good. We had a garden pool bungalow… so there were some scary bugs!! Bring bug spray!!! The pool idea was awesome… but the tiles in our pool were coming up!! The infinity pool is amazing!! The kayaking is VERY hard because of the coral!! I suggest going far far to the right… then you can go straight out from there… but go all the way to the right first. The staff was friendly and helpful. Amenities were very good. Overall I would recommend this place! We definitely enjoyed our time here!!!

Bora Bora we stayed at Le Maitai Polynesia. I DO NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff wasn’t that helpful. They had issues with supplies and overall I felt the rooms were dirty and the cleaner wasn’t good at all (we watched her clean a few times because we were stuck in our room due to weather). However… the location of our bungalow was amazing and we were able to jump off the platform into about 25 feet of clear beautiful water!!! Most other hotels you can’t jump off the platform by your overwater bungalow because it’s too shallow! This was fun!!

OK I have to run now… but I was feeling so bad for not writing anything for a while… so I hope this holds you guys over for a bit. If you have any specific questions don’t hesitate to ask!!

OH and I almost forgot MAKE SURE you bring your own mask and snorkel (I saw gross things going on with the ones you borrow….. we were THRILLED we purchased our own beforehand). Water shoes are a MUST!! Don’t even think about going to this location without watershoes!! Don’t try to buy them there either… the island is VERY VERY VERY expensive!! Also Sunblock!!! Wear at least 50 spf!! Trust me!! You will still tan. The sun is VERY VERY VERY strong!! Stronger than any other place I have ever gone… and don’t spend more than 2 to 3 hours in the sun with 50 sunblock on at a time. You will burn and it’s gonna be bad TRUST me!!!

TOTALLY recommend it!!! You can literally snorkle ANYWHERE there and see some cool stuff!!! But the borrowed ones are SO GROSS!!!
Quick Story... at Lagoonarium they take you around to different locations then you go to the 'Lagoonarium' which is a sectioned off area of the lagoon. It's sectioned off via gates underwater and they basically trap some underwater life and keep it. They take care of them. So they have sharks and turtles and sting rays and fish (including the VERY deadly rock/stone fish!!). You get to snorkle and swim with them all (the stonefish is sectioned off but you can get close enough). They feed the sealife with dead fish... so basically they have a bucket filled with cut up fish... fish heads etc... the bucket is FULL of fish guts and blood and it's just nausiating.... the water also is kinda murky over there because of the constant feeding. In any case..... I literally watched them using the same white bucket that was stained and saturated with fish guts and blood and just smelly all together.... well after feeding the fish they rinsed the bucket by dumping it underwater 2 times. THEN they collected all the loaned snorkle gear and that's the bucket they kept it all in!!! I was mortified and so thankful that we bought our gear before arriving!!! The other gear I saw going around was just old and really worn and used!! I can't recommend getting your own gear enough!!!!

And DO NOT forget water shoes!! You cannot really go into the water without them!! You will cut yourself.... there's TONS of coral and life everywhere!!! And some of the coral is VERY dangerous!!!!

When you are snorkeling... do NOT attempt to grab anything... do not get too close to any coral... there are eels and mooray's in the coral that can and will come out and they can bite your hands etc. So be careful. It's safe and I don't want to scare anyone... but it's important to be careful. Also the coral in itself can be dangerous!! Nice to look at... not nice to touch!!! haha!!

Thank You!!!!

Isn't that nausiating?? Watching it was even more disgusting!!! That's mainly why I STRONGLY recommend bringing your own. Their rentals were pretty crappy quality anyway. And it's not like you will NEVER use the equipment again... you can use it in the future on another trip you take... and be worry free about having to rent it!!
