I think that would be carrying 'freedom of religion' a little far.

Honestly...how can this woman actually expect the DMV to issue her a licence with a picture that you cant see her face, hair color or eye color. For all they would know it could be a man underneath it!!

I believe she was denied the right to wear it and now she's suing, so there may not be an outcome for some time.

My guess is that they are going to say that driving isn't a privledge...so they can deny someone from a license for whatever reasons...


but who knows what will happen with the right lawyers...

Wal-Mart is a whole other topic, IMO. I absolutely DETEST that store and their monopolizing practices.

If Im not mistaken I think she won. Thats ok, Im sorry but there is going to come a time where some things will bite people in the ass.

I believe in religion, but sometimes you just have to give.

You know when I worked in the 5 towns which is a predominantly Jewish area, an very religious orthodox jewish man came in and refused to let me touch him.. So I left the room, he said it was against his religion to come in contact with a 'gentile woman'

My boss also Jewish but reformed, told him to leave. The man said no, it was his right. My boss said not in this office. He told him to call local offices annd check to see if they had an all orhtodox jewish staff.

I always thought that was little weird..

I had the same encounter with my job, a male borrower wouldn't shake my hand, b/c I am a woman and its against the orthodox branch of judaism.

Their are 24 apartments in my building. Of the 24 apartments we have hispanic, Polish, and many from Gyana and India. Their are only 3 apartments that are not of that ethnic background.

NONE of them speak english.

just wanted to comment...Dh's family came from Spain...they ALL speak very good English with accents (albeit), but they often go into Spanish...they are all US citizens as well and do not collect welfare or other services...


on another note when my dad started dating my mom...my moms whole family spoke German (yet they all became US citizens and spoke very good English)

my grandfather would have to yell at all the old ladies to speak English so my father could understand...its just that they were comfortable with German...


so just b/c someone doesn't speak English in their home, doesn't mean that they 1) aren't citizens 2)do not know English 3) are collecting welfare or 4) have contagious diseases...

Oh my God Wacky...funny you should mention the orthodox, DH was doing a closing today and the buyer was an orthodox Jew, he REFUSED to have a woman present during the closing (and she was from the bank)

Exception for what. Im sorry Alina, there is always an exception, bu thats ridiculous. How is anyone to really know who she is. What if she a murderer, or is the victim of a crime, or anything. If I have then you have to.

You know, personally I think that its coming to a point that one can kill and get away with it because of religion and that scares me.
