Hi girls ... Its Carina (I changed my user name) and fellow De Seversky bride. I had a quick question. What are you gals doing for your cocktail hour music?

Also, are any of you opting to extend your event time wise?

I have a Jazz trio for cocktail hour and I extended my cocktail hour by half an hour

we were told we can connect an iPod which will play music throughout the mansion. we're doing this for our cocktail hour. i figured it's most cost efficient since people will be in several different rooms so it's the only way to get music throughout.

plus we blew our music budget on the band.

We are thinking of extending the reception as well which we need to do as we are getting ready to look at djs. Is anyone else doing a dj? I didnt feel like I could accomodate a band without it taking up a lot of room and we are figuring on 150 guests for traditional type wedding!

We extended the cocktail hour a half hour to make it an hour and a half (and the total reception 6 hours). We are not having the typical wedding reception - rather, we are having the cocktail hour on the left side of the mansion, a formal sit down dinner in the ballroom on the right side of the mansion (no dancing), then after dinner move to back to the left side of the mansion for the dancing and shenanigans (I believe its called 'european style'). Anywho - we are having a string trio that will be playing for the CH, then they will move to the ballroom and play for dinner. After that - the DJ will be playing

Hey girls, question about tasting..

Haven't had my tasting yet and Eric is recommending that I wait till the fall when it's closer to my wedding date. I kind of wanted it this June so it'll reflect the same season...

Is one tasting enough??? How far in advance of your wedding did you girls schedule your tasting?

We are using Bravura. I was also concerned about the room being a little tight on space with a band. However, we added a few live music options for the ceremony and reception.

My wedding is in October and I did a tasting in February...I might do another one closer to the date because they always add new things to the menu which is really neat. Also, remember the first tasting is free, subsequently you will have to pay i think 35 a person. I would say that you can totally get away with 1 tasting....so wait. And don't stress...their food is SOOOO good that you will not be dissapointed. The only benefit I see to two tastings is that you would be able to sample a bigger variety of food (diff stations/entree's).

As for tastings...we are getting married 5/30 this year. Our first tasting was in Sept 2009, while we did a second one in March 2010, and then we just picked our menu out last week.

I used Party Up Productions for our DJ. They were incredible. They were there the whole day...we got onsite around 230 and the owner and some of his crew was already there setting up. We did the ceremony there - invites were for 6pm and 630 was the ceremony. Reception ended at 12:30 pm. I had entertainment that he had to coordinate their music and we also used Party Up Productions for the uplighting. It was such a pleasant experience working with them. I can't rave enough about them. They aren't all over LIWeddings so you're not going to find any reviews about them. I was hesitant at first. They came through another recommendation and I was not at all disappointed. One of my best vendors.

ETA - we did European style and they had everything set up so that there was music for cocktail hour, in the ballroom for dinner, and then in the garden and dining room for dinner. They also had everything set up for our ceremony outside and microphone for officiant.

Has anyone opted into getting an LCD projector and screen to be put up during the reception so that you can air a childhood montage? or is anyone bringing in plasma's?
