defintelly try to bargain down the gold , they known people are not buying as much, since gold is so expenive.
the thing is, both of us are not good at negotiate. so should we talk the price down for 75%?
coz I know in china town you have to talk down at least 50% first and then they will accept 75% of the original price...
we dont know how much we should negotiate...

try to bait them , say you going to look some where else, how much are willing to spend. The set is $700, what does this include. Necklace and earrings? necklace only?

maybe it is 22... I am not sure,(def. not 24..hehe..)
but the problem is how to ask,
should I start w/ith 'can you make it $500?'
or ' what is the best you can do for the price?'

I am going to try to negotiate with them.. I just need to think of a strategy before I walk tinto the store, maybe I need a drink b/4 I go
I am so shy to negotiate, and I can see my FH is going to stand there and do nothing

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
tell him to negotiate, with the person, if they are talking in their language it will be hard to see if they going to lower the price or it can work in your favor!!!1

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
thanks everyone for the compliments..gg- i agree with leena, someone older being there makes alot of difference... also showing too much interest in that particular set might alert them that you really like it and they may not want to budge on price... sorry cant offer any bargaining tactics, i pretty much suck at that!!
good luck!

Does anyone know who does GOOD hair and can help me get dressed for my nikkah...(help me pin my lengha). I already have Mia doing my makeup. I know there are so many salon's in hicksville. But the most i ever get done are my eyebrows. If there is anyone in particular, do they come to your house as well? Thanks ladies....

thanks all,
we can't take any aunt with us becase we are buying it for his mom and we don' t want anyone to know (His aunts can't keep secret) that's why It become a problem since both of us never buy real gold b/4 and FH is so shy about negotiation. He is that kinda person just walk in and pay...
and I don't speak Hindi so it is written on my forehead 'rip me off please'I just want to know how much I should talk down the price (75% of sales price? or more or less?).So if anyone can ask your mom for me I would really apperciate that!

they are on West Nicolas St (I am not sure the spelling) near Hickville train station.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
BUMP!!
Hi all. I am a newbie but I have to bump this tread up. It's amazing. I have read all pages 1 thru 35 like three times. :) YOu guys are soo insightful and helpful. I am even more confused than I was before.
I got engaged 2 months ago. I live in Queens, originally from Trinidad. My wedding is set ofr 06/01/08 (our 6 yr anniversary)
We're both hindus although not very religious. However I would still like to incorporate a traditional hindu wedding with some modernized ideas also.
I saw all of the newlywed pics on this tread, as well as the upcoming brides. I have to say I admire you guys. You're so detailed it's scaring me. There is sooo much work involved.
I've jus started looking through tons of mag and tons of wedding sites including indian sites also.
Any tips on making this planning less confusing. I'm mostly confused about doing a hindu wedding because I am not 100% fimiliar with details.
Like are there normally bridesmaid at a hindu wedding?? etc.
Thanks in advance for any helpful tips.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I would love Mia to do my hair as well for the ceremony..but my ceremony and reception is actually 2 separate days....I booked her for makeup for my reception in Nov, my nikkah is sept 1.....unfortunately she already has like 3 people scheduled for that day. So i figured..since i'll be wearing indian that day...i should get the same person to help me get dressed and do my hair and makeup....so i figured hicksville would be perfect since my ceremony is in Garden city....
