Re: Thatched cottage thread

I have no idea what we're doing for the RD. FH's parents haven't offered a dime towards the wedding, so I guess it's up to the 2 of us to pay for it. My mother said she would do something small at her house, but I don't know if I want that the night before the wedding when I'm staying there that night...and I feel like my mom is already doing enough (she's hosting a small brunch at her house the day after.)
I'm trying to think of a cheap place to have it at. I'm a little nervous though because everyone is telling me I have to have the OOT guests, and like 75% of my wedding is OOT!!! Even if I just limit it to OOT family, it's huge.
We are in the same boat! I know FH's family will not be helping with this. They have not helped pay for anything. I did not expect them to. He has a large family, and I know it would be hard for them. I called my mom a few minutes ago for suggestions. My mom always wants to be helpful so she started to say that she thought we could fit everyone at her house, but my dad was not having it. I don't want this to fall on them, anyway. My mom and I discussed having it at a Chinese buffet, because it is less expensive than a regular restaurant. This might be what we do!

Re: Thatched cottage thread
That's what everyone is telling me...which is stressing me out. Plus, when I think about it, every OOT wedding I've gone to, if I go the night before, I do get invited to the RD.It's freaking me out though because I have family coming in from as far away as New Zealand and Austraila and they're obviously not going to fly in the day of the wedding. My RD guest list will be almost the same size as the wedding guest list!!

i've been also thinking of the RD and I have no idea where I will have it. I was considering the Mill Pond House (next to TC) but it is kinda expensive. We also have a lot of OOT guest (about 50%) but we decieded not to invite them. FMIL said its not neccessary-OOT guest are FH's family.

I think that's a great idea - do you mind if I steal it? I actually haven't even scheduled my rehearsal yet with the church. They told me I have to set it up the first night of pre-cana with the deacon (the same guy does pre-cana and the rehearsals). We were told we'll be doing pre-cana in March or April.
I really don't know what to do about it. I was trying to think of a decent pizza place with a room in the back. Hopefully that will be cheap.

Re: Thatched cottage thread
Im doing my RH a week before the wedding on a sunday. I figured if I do it a week in advance I don't have to invite the out of towners. LOL Were not having a 'rehearsal of the ceremony' at TH. Just a dinner to say thank you to the BP.

Where do you live? I know a pizza place in Suffolk/Selden that has a really cute room in the back that could be 'private' and the food is so good.

Re: Thatched cottage thread
I am not having OOT people at the RD, nor am I having significant others. I have 14 people in the bridal party plus parents so we are already having 22 people at the RD, we are paying for everything ourselves and just cant afford it. People are understanding. And, the RD is supposed to be a gift to your bridal party for all of the help that they have given you, so I think its gotten sort of out of hand with who you are and arent supposed to invite to it.

Re: Thatched cottage thread
I think it's gotten out of control too. It won't be bad if it's just BP and immediate family - we are having a very small BP (my 2 sisters, his 3 friends) and that's it. I know some people are going to be mad but it's got to be a small, cheap dinner!I totally forgot about Pront and Mulberry Street! Those are great suggestions!

Re: Thatched cottage thread
My RD is at the Bonwit Inn the night before. they have 3 private rooms which are all beautiful and very reasonable prices (28.95pp for a 3 course meal). Im not inviting oot guests- my fh's aunt is hosting something for them at her house the same night as our rd.

Re: Thatched cottage thread
I wonder if it's the Thatched Cottage who requests the threads to be removed. Weird. I'm havng my RD on a Thursday night and I'm only inviting the Bridal party which is very small, and immediate family.

Thanks, I'm so excited! I've been to Italy many times but I don't get tired of it. Most of the places we're going to are new to FH.
