Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

We have all of our rooms blocked off at the Hyatt Place in garden city. We got a really great rate (129/night), but it is a little farther away - about 10 minutes. We looked into the Inn at Great Neck also but is was almost $200/night plus a parking fee.

The Hyatt Place is right near the Roosevelt Field so super close to the highway. It's brand new (opened in January) and the rooms are great.

I believe they have a 'bar' downstairs...it's not closed off from everything else, but there is a seating area and they serve alcohol.

FM if you have any other questions!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

We are going with La Quinta and the Hyatt Place (our block got filled at La Quinta so we needed more rooms). At La Quinta the bar stays open until 2 am. We were quotes $149 at both places.

Hi :) Can anyone tell me how many people fit at a round table? Would 11 people be too much?

Thanks!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Will do my review but am waiting on some pics. Sorry ladies. Do you all have to size the pics down a lot to post them on here? I would put some up but first I have to size them all down and that is time consuming.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Huh. Let me try to upload a normal sized pic to the album. I know on the forum it has to be less than say 60K. I don't have many pics from my photographer and for some reason, hardly any of the DM from guests as they seemed to take the church and gardens or table shots.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

It did upload to my album. I will try to paste the link here for you to see. BTW, I absolutely loved my church ceremony, the Old Westbury Gardens for pics and the DM. Everyone went on about how they loved the place. I also loved my fairly large bridal party and all the colors I chose. Unfortunately I am at my highest weight and most likely a bit older than some of you 20/30 somethings but all in all, was happy with everything.

I have a pic of my cake from there in my photo album on this site. I'll try to attach it on this forum. I thought those guys were nice but they didn't deem the cake all that important, 'no one looks at the cake anyway' at a time when cakes are real popular. I asked for 4 tiers as I only had 100 people and would have had 3 tiers. I am glad I asked.

The cake itself and the filling, I did cannoli and chocolate pudding with yellow cake, was really good. I stuck with the buttercream. Wish they wouldn't smooth it out to look like fondant because it doesn't and I'd rather it be fluffy. Also thought they'd put more flowers on it and the first bottom tier was bigger than the rest, not symmetrical and uneven from the rest of the tiers. All in all it was a great tasting cake and an Ok enough look. They did a great job on the groom's cake with was a fondant logo of the Islanders on a cheesecake which again was great tasting. The new girl there does great work in fondant. If you're going really want your cake to look nice you may want to pay extra for fondant or something.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

OK, here is my cake. BTW, the cake topper was on the table most of the time. I guess it was too heavy? They put it on only for the cake cutting. Had I known, I might have bought those rhinestone Mongrams to stick onto the top cake cause it looked topless all night and plain! :)

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Actually, the professional shot makes the cake look a bit nicer than it was. Here's a pic from a guest, blurry as it may be, of the cake and how it looked all night without the cake topper and another of DH and I cutting the cake where you can see it is a tad bit lop sided. FYI-in case that will bother you.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

i was going toask the same thing, where did she put the dj? Iwas originally told by Sam (whos not there anymore) thatthey usually put the dj where the top of the T meets the the bottom (if that makes any sence)
