I was 41 and DH was 42 when we walked down the aisle in November. It was both of our first marriages.

I can totally relate to having some things done differently because you're older but some things were not so different. We still had the church wedding and I loved my dress. DH had a bachelor party but I didn't want a bachelorette party. I didn't do the big BP - I had my two sisters and DH's sister; DH had his 4 best friends.

We didn't do the garter or bok toss. We originally said we wanted to try for a HM baby but then said we needed time to adjust to married life. Believe it or not at this ripe old age, we didn't live together until after the wedding! Now the plan is to start trying in April.

You are not alone...you have all of us old ladies to go through it with.

Hi, I am 39 and will be 40 when we get married. I am not having a traditional BP - a MOH and two flowergirls and then his daughter (13) and my niece (13) and my son who will be (14) I am very close to my nieces and just want them to be feel special and part of the day.

I am 47 and FH will be 46 when we get married. Its my 2nd marriage and FH's 1st. We arent having a big BP either. Just MOH and BM and my neice and nephew as RB and Jr BM. We arent doing the boquet or garter toss or the parents/bride, groom dances. We are going to do an anniversary dance and give the longest married couple a bottle of Champagne. All of us here are doing things a little different then the 20 something brides.

These days, weddings seem to be about breaking with tradition which I like because they tend to be all the same like schelping thru a reception with nothing personal or memorable going on. So, it gives brides the freedom to add things that in the past may have seemed odd.

I like all this wedding hoopla. My mom, sister and I are like Holiday Elves for every little event. So, I have a big bridal party. My sister is the MOH and the other 4 women are friends I've had from childhood and my cousin whom is like a sister. They know me in so many ways as a child and now as an adult so it's fitting. That was special to me and I wanted them all to be in it so it's 5 women total. Two of them have kids that I adore so I have 3 Jr. BM's, a Jr. Usher, a FG and RB. Now I have to buy them all gifts though which is expensive!! :) Didn't think of that!

My Uncle Ed is my dad's younger brother. He is so much like my dad. He even looks like him and has his mannerisms. When my dad had cancer in 1997 he said that Uncle Ed would take his place walking me down the aisle. I am having a projection screen and will show video of my dad and I dancing at one of my BM's wedding while I dance to 'Wind Beneath my Wings' with my Uncle. I think running emotions high and low is key like a good movie and will make it memorable. Hopefully not traumatic!!

FH lost his dad when he was 10 of a heart attack and then his mom died when he was 13 from cancer. What a childhood but I think it makes him the special person that he is today. His sister is 14 yrs older and married young so she took him in. So, I'd like him to dance with his sister to, 'Because I Loved You' by Celine Dion. It will be touching as well with some photos going by in the background on the Projection screen.

As far as the bridal toss, I wasn't going to do it and most of my friends abandoned it however, my cousin's kids (I call nieces and nephews) are now around 15-22 years old and I think it would be fun for them. Plus, it's nice to have an interactive break so it's not all dancing. I want the DJ to play, 'The Final Countdown' while I'm throwing the bouquet and I have a lot of songs planned out including 2 that I am having recorded as a dedication to FH. Don't worry, I can sing very well.

I have so many ideas with music etc I hope the DJ will work with me because most of my music is planned out. Was thinking perhaps I missed my calling as an event planner or something??

The fertility part I could do without as one of you wrote, we need time to adjust to married life. At 45 though, I don't have that luxury so I figured short term stress for long term reward!

We can't really afford a honeymoon but I am going to make it happen if it kills me! I have visions of how I've always wanted my wedding to be which has it's plus and minuses because I'm also a very creative type and have high expectations so I get easily disappointed. I can't imagine not having a honeymoon though and to do it down the road is anti climactic. Who knows, maybe I'll be prego??!! :) Would love just a week in the Bahamas at an All Inclusive Resort. Any affordable ideas or promos you know of, feel free to let me know.

have you looked into cruises. FH and I are doing a cruise out of Puerto Rico for 8 days 7 nights with airfare for $1900.00. They have cruises that go to the bahamas out of NY that is very reasonable. And you wont hae to pay airfare

I thought about that but Tom and I are now living with my mom and don't have anything. So, we actually need a lot of stuff starting with dishes, pots and pans, flatware, a vacuum and all kitchen appliances! So, registered for very practical stuff, not too much decorative items.

I am laid off so I can't afford to buy all that on my own. Maybe I will find a job soon and can afford the honeymoon I want and not feel so tight and stressed about it all. Anyone know of a job, let me know too!

I'm OK. Worrying a bit about my color choices etc. My mom can be very critical as well as the older folks in my family who are used to the very traditional parts of a wedding. Everyone is so much more conservative than I am. I am the creative one! :)

My mom doesn't like the ribbon bands around this cake. I like the green bands but would add hot and light pink flowers as Clover Green, Hot and light pink are my colors.

Do you find the green bands around this cake so atrocious? Again, this pic is rather plain. Picture with the pink roses.

This is my wedding color scheme. Spring into Summer colors! It's bold, energetic, vibrant and full of life which is how I am. I guess that's why everyone likes the colors they like! :) Just hope most of my conservative guests aren't struck like, OMGosh! What was she thinking?

I dont understand about the ribbons though. Why doesnt you mom like it? Its not overdoing the cake decorations. I think its simple and elegant. Remember- its your wedding, do what you like.

Thanks for making me feel more confident about my colors etc. Yeah, my mother is 77 and is stuck in the old days or something. Sometimes these more modern ideas aren't appealing to her. Cakes should be buttercream with flowers and decor etc. She says the bands of green ribbon looks like something they used to put on people's heads when they had a headache or something. A bandeau? She's not from this country.

Oh well. I am learning so much from this wedding process. I can't please everyone.

I understand the mom thing- I was having all sorts of problems with her when I got engaged. She didnt understand why I was having a wedding in a RH when I had been married before. she thought it should be low key- almost like she was embarrassed or something. I still have mae her come around to a shower though. She still says i had one with my first marriage and i shouldnt have another one. Oh well- I guess its the old school in my mom

Yes I truly understand about mom not getting the vision. I just have her watch Platinum Weddings. If she has any questions then we will talk. Less of a headache. My mom will be 71 and any talk about my wedding she just doesn't understand.

Have any of you taken your mom dress shopping. I really want to buy the dress and just tell her to put in on. For my e-party I brought the dress from Romans.com. She didn't like the color or the style, but when everyone told her how beautiful she was in the dress then it was a different story.

Limos we will probably check out Camelot (not really sure who else)..if it was up to me I would probably drive myself but my dress won't fit in my car

My mom is 77 and just isn't as excited about it as she would have been a few years ago. Watching Platinum Weddings however is a brilliant idea. When my mom gets used to all the trendy ideas, mine will seem so much more traditional and far less expensive. She will surely be on my side using this tactic!

As for MOB dress, my mom and I looked at several good places but the average dress ranged from $400-$600 and up. Then we went to Blanchees in East Rockaway. She found a beautiful blue, chiffon dress for $225, no joke. The lady there is WONDERFUL! No sales pressure and like the rest of the places, didn't use the 'Rush charge' threat to get the purchase. I'll see if I can post the dress up. My mom didn't want anything to revealing due to wrinkling skin and her age. No low necklines and it has a full length jacket.
