Re: FOX HOLLOW BRIDES - Question & Answer Thread

Hello ladies..

I've been moving back to NY and I'm finally here (yippie) so some of my comments may seem dated.

1st, I love your hair Jen in the first trial, but I also agree that it matters what you want. Something simple is good too because I helped my friend take all hundreds of bobby pins out of her hair before bed on her wedding, and wow... that was a major time consumer and pain in the butt, but also I do like the bun type of styles you picked as well. I hope your second trial goes well.

I also agree about the not paying extra for fondant on the cake. I thought about it for a while, but fondant has no flavor at all so they bakery has to add flavor to it and since there is no cake tasting, i'm a little iffy. I've baked with fondant but can't recall eating a cake made by someone else with fondant.

There was something else, but I can't remember,

Anyways, Good luck to all those with upcoming weddings and weddings that just passed!!

just had my appointment at fox hollow where i finalized menu and chose linens, etc. I gave them a pic of this cake, except i want it 4 tiers and no flowers on top. i was charged extra for the flowers and chose the whipped cream icing because i refused to pay $350 more for fondant (thats nuts!) I hope my cake doesn't look like crap the day of, I almost went with an outside vendor for the cake but they are so expensive. i hope i don't regret my decision!

I wouldnt stress about it. IMO whipped cream is better b/c fondant is gross and I always hate dealing with it when trying to eat wedding cake.

In the grand scheme of things the cake appearance isn't that important... I went to Erga Bakery (where F.H. get their cakes) and its yummy so I'm not worried.

I hope that helps

I totally agree with you.... fondant may look elegant but the whipped cream is so much yummier and easier to eat! I'm sure the cake will look great with whipped cream!

Re: FOX HOLLOW BRIDES - Question & Answer Thread

Not to worry, the bridal attendant will take care of everything. We stayed at the Inn and they walked everything over for us, including leftover favors, our cake top, etc. As we were taking pictures outside we saw the limo of the folks from the party before us getting loaded up by the FH staff. You should be fine, I would just be certain to assign someone to take care of the card box (or whereever you're storing your enevlopes). You don't want that to get lost in the shuffle.

Re: FOX HOLLOW BRIDES - Question & Answer Thread

Can anyone tell me if they used the menus provided by FH? trying to decide if it is worth the trouble of making my own. Are they decent looking? I would hate to spend a fortune on something that people will not think twice about and throw them away.

Glad I could help! I am going to go back there this week to get some stuff to make my flower girl a scrapbooked frame - kinda like this but with all flower girl things on it.

I am making mine. I have seen the Fox Hollow's, and they are just like printouts on copy paper. Nice enough, I guess, but I am going for a theme and a certain look and want as many things as possible to carry it out, you know. They don't have to cost a ton either. Below is the one I made as a sample. I am going to change it a bit however - I love the leaf cut out but I think i want a more elegant look to the menu.

If you go to michaels (again, i am recommending them!) or ac moore, you can by 8.5x11 sheets of cardstock to print the menus on. You may be able to get two menus onto one sheet - do it in word and make two text boxes. The sheets are like 29 cents a piece and if you go when they have a sale, they are like 19 cents. then, they sell BIG sheets of dark cardstock that you can use to 'mat' it - so that the darker piece sticks out from underneath the printed sheet a bit. Cutting the cardstock will take the longest amount of time but it shouldn't cost a ton at all.

Thanks, I went to both places this weekend and walked around aimlessly trying to figure out what cardstock to use. What color cardstock are you using? I only saw multi color packs- maybe I was looking in the wrong place? I am trying to channel my inner craftiness and I think it is hiding!!!!!!!

Thanks for responding!! I did speak with Annemarie and she told me I could drop off my own paper and she would print them for me. Has anyone done that??

May i ask whattype of cake most of you are girls are goign with? I will be doing all of this in 2.5 months. I just want some opinions of what cakes are amazing! I really appreciate the help.

We're getting the cake that's included from Fox Hollow. We chose chocolate cake, buttercream frosting, and canoli filling with chocolate chips.

As for shape and design, I gave Annmarie 2 photos as a guide for what I want our cake to look like. One is of a friend's wedding cake that I absolutely love and the second is a cake I saw online (photo in my album). It's going to be several tiers of alternating caddy-corner squares (I hope that makes sense!) with white outlined hearts as the design. If I remember correctly, Annmarie said the cake was similiar to #8 in their book of cakes. My florist will provide roses and delphinium to decorate the cake.

I retyped the menu and printed it on regular paper to test fonts, colors, layout design. For the final menus, I'm using white cardstock from Staples. I think the pack I bought was 250 sheets. It's in the section of specialty papers (near resume & parchment paper). I've already set up a blue border in the layout design on MS Word to match my other DIY projects, and it nicely frames the menu, so I don't think I'm using dark blue cardstock to layer them. If you want to do this, click on the text box outline and change the border to something thicker (it lets you choose different point sizes).

I'd say print on a lighter color and if you want to layer papers/cardstock, use a darker color as a background. It'll make it easier for your guests to read.

There is a section at michaels, etc where there is loose paper in racks. You can pretty much get any color you want here.

CC makes a good point - staples probably has other colors in bulk. I am printing mine on cream colored cardstock, using a brown border. I may try her idea first to see how I like the border done with ink and not color.

and I forgot to include my sample - here it is.
