The Emotional Experience Of Boudoir

This is a guest post from Marque DeWinter of Be Breathtaking Boudoir. Thank you for your contribution.
Many of the amazing woman who come decide to do a boudoir photography shoot intend on it being a gift for their (future) spouse. What they often come to learn is how wonderful of a gift it is for themselves. Boudoir, done well, can transform and grow a woman. Very often the transition from uncomfortable, unsure, to beautiful, confident occurs during the process. While I’m not one to traditionally share images I’ve shot during a shoot there is always one or two that I can’t help but show to the woman before me. The reaction is very often the same… disbelief. They don’t believe that the person my lens has been able to capture is them. How could such a confident, sensual, gorgeous woman be the same person she sees in the mirror every day? It is. A great boudoir photographer is not such skilled technically and artistically. The true required skill that isn’t needed in any other type of photography is to be able to peer inside of woman and see the person she feels she is inside. To coax that venus from within by instilling a few doses of courage into her and letting her spirit run with it. Every woman is a sexual being. Not to be confused with being a sexual object, but a creature who if allowed to exist free of society and stereotypes would completely indulge herself in her natural state. After all sensuality is not something that can be taught or brought out with a camera. It needs to be nurtured and fed and encouraged to appear.
Butterflies, nervousness, apprehension, timidness, shyness…..can all be overcome and conquered with curiosity. Curiosity brings with it bravery and courage. Every woman who has never done a boudoir shoot before feels all these things. Its a swirl of emotion. A whirlwind of activity surrounds you caused by strangers who you really don't know well. Make-up artists, hair dressers, assistants, photographers, and even videographers abound on the day. You’ve trusted them to help you. Especially the photographer. There comes a time during your shoot when everyone disappears. Everyone. Its just you truly realizing what is happening around you. Its almost surreal. And in a moment its gone; then its just you and the photographer. The person you’ve entrusted most in this process. They are your guide. Telling you how to pose, what to do, but they are also in a way a spiritual guide. For the photographer is the one who is also telling you stories, jokes, little secrets to make the whirlwind disappear. To make your butterflies disappear. There is definitely an intimacy with the photographer. Its a key to boudoir. Its something a wedding photographer will never capture with you. This relationship, no matter how brief, is essential to bringing the inner you out. Let go and let it happen. Once you do an ease will settle over the process.
Finally at ease the fun begins. Boudoir isn’t just sensual, sexy, but it can also be flirty, fun, and downright silly. Its natural. And one you are at ease you can accomplish anything with a little help, luckily there is a team there to help you. Seize the chance and embrace your ideal. Get a little wild and crazy in you want or turn toward your deeply passionate self. Feel it. Embrace the emotions and let them shine through. Your body and face will respond to how you feel and your photographer will capture it all to last your lifetime. And when it all begins to whined down and wrap up you’ll be wishing it wouldn’t end. You’ll have a glow that won’t go away just like when you first fell in love. And as it fades a little bit of anticipation will grow. Possibly a little nervousness about how the photos will actually come out. Excitement waiting for that day to go back to the studio to see the results of all that hard work. And when it does the amazement when you see yourself. Really see how breathtaking you are. Its simply amazing.
