Oct 16, 2017 12:00 AM Back
Engagement sessions provide you with a set of images that you will look back on for years and years. Deciding what you will wear might seem harder than it really is.
Engagement sessions should be a reflection of the couple and how they are together. There’s obviously no right or wrong answer on what to do in your engagement session because you are very different than the next couple. Let’s break down the His and Her ideas and suggestions on what you might consider wearing for your engagement session.
HIS
There are three primary styles for men as options for their engagement shoots. Classic, chic, and casual.
A classic look would be the most dressed up of the three options. This might include a simple black suit, white tie or colored tie, and nice, classy shoes. This is going to draw attention and make a bold statement, providing for a more dramatic look to your photos.
A chic look for men is a nice pair of jeans paired with a nice shirt and maybe a suit jacket or blazer jacket. Some classy brown or black shoes as an accent will help them look sharp and still something a bit more of an everyday style. This might be something that you would wear to work but not to a business meeting, for example. It gives the chance to show off his style, his taste, and his clean look during the shoot.
Finally, you can use a more casual style with the guys. This could be jeans and a relaxing t-shirt and sneakers. Most guys will prefer this option best because they dress like this most of the time. Jeans, nice sneakers, and a comfortable shirt gives a relaxed look and feel to the whole setting. It makes him comfortable and is more likely to get him in a natural state.
HERS
In the same way, there are three styles for men; there are very similar styles for women. Classic, chic, and casual.
A classic look is something bold. A long gown, high heels, red lips, etc. are all examples of the classic look. If you are comfortable rocking a dress and heels, then this might be the style route for you.
A chic look for women can go many more directions. Some dresses fit the chic vibe from their lengths, colors, or patterns. Chic looks are a mix between something casual but also something dressy. This could be something work appropriate in style but maybe adding more flirt on top.
As with the gentlemen, casual is always an option for the ladies. Jeans of various colors and styles can draw you from a casual look to a more chic look. Adding cozy scarves or intimate jewelry makes something unexpected pop. What is casual for women is almost always more dressed up than the casual for men, but is still giving the impression of comfortability and style all in one.
Whatever you decide to wear and dress your partner in, be sure it’s something they are comfortable with. The idea of an engagement shoot is to celebrate the proposal of a lifetime together. These photos can be captured in a casual or more natural state, or they can blow your friends and family away with your stunning classic looks. Either way, your engagement shoot is going to be one of the most fun times and being comfortable in whatever you choose is priority number one.
