United We Stand: Honoring Your Military Mate

Marriage is about love and sacrifice and no one shows their love more (for their country and their fellow “man”) than those in the military. And, they are among the few (along with police and firefighters) who make such major sacrifices to keep up safe.
And, while we set aside a few days a year to honor these honorary men and women, it is something we should do every day. So, if you’re marrying a military man or lady what better way to show YOUR love and respect than to pay homage to their great service.
1. Select A Venue With Meaning: From your mate’s military base or a location with significant meaning such as West Point, pick a venue that pays tribute to your man or woman’s branch of service.
2. Pick A Military Officiant: Ask the chaplain from the military base to officiate or help officiate your ceremony.
3. Opt For Honorary Attire: Since it is reserved for extra special occasions, break out your military uniform for your special day and ask ALL military guests (past and present…and from every branch or division) to do the same.
4. The Name Game: From save the dates straight through to thank you notes, use your and/or your mates official rank and title ….especially since he or she has worked so hard to achieve it.
5. An Official Exit Ask military members of your wedding party to form an exit arch with swords or sabers for you and your bride or groom to pass through.
6. Use a cutlass or saber to make the first cut in your wedding cake.
7. Branch Out: Find out what special wedding day “ceremonies” you particular military branch holds sacred and incorporate those into your special day.
